I paint a lot of greeting cards using your background technique, especially birds.. So if the paint bleeds under the tape, I cover it with a frame of wide permanent marker in a coordinating color. It adds a touch that folks seem to like to the cards. Your tips have been so helpful all along, please don't stop. 🐧

Thank you Bonnie and what a lovely tip regarding covering up the paint bleed. 😀

I've tried the hair dryer tip. It REALLY works.

Do you have any difficulties with mottled backgrounds, that I could perhaps help with? *Leave me a comment* , and I will see what I can do, in the meantime, here's another video which explores the subject some more: bit.ly/3HOHJzb

Why does your "Don't" look like it should be hanging in a museum?

Why are you using such a tiny detail brush for a background??

Lol, yes I do use small brushes, just something I've done for many years. It will obviously be much quicker with a larger brush. 😁 I tend to pick up the largest brush nearby and this will have been it. 😊

Complete beginner here so this is probably a really silly question. I’d really love try the mottled background. So do I draw my bird or mammal and mottle around it?

Hi Carol, I would personally use masking fluid to mask off the inside edge of the subject first, then paint the mottled background. Allow it to dry then remove the masking fluid. Paul 😃

@@TheDevonArtist this morning I used the drawing gum and created a mottled background for the first time. I applied the drawing gum with a cotton bud which seemed to work okay.
