    The last scene with Dumbledore looking at the wedding and seeing what he'll probably never have is the saddest in the movies to me, because it's very real. LGBTQ+ people have to deal with a lot of loneliness, specially decades ago. For Dumbledore, this is an even sadder situation. He's basically a genius, so it's hard to find someone equal as him. Grindelwald was probably the only one.

    • @VerowakReacts
      @VerowakReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's interesting because I understood it to be very different. I saw it as Dumbledore being someone who doesn't want to be close to others and would rather just be by himself. I don't have much exposure to the LGBTQ+ community so I didn't see it like that at all. It's very interesting how we interpret things differently and can relate to the same character in a scene but for different reason

    • @erikperhs_
      @erikperhs_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@VerowakReacts I think it's a little bit of both. Yeah, maybe he doesn't want to be around others, but that's because he didn't find anyone "worth his time" yet, if you know what I mean. He automatically assumes a position of power above others because of how great he is, he becomes a mentor because everyone looks up to him. Grindelwald was an equal to him and I think he never found anyone like that again. And the fact he talks so much about the power of love and how amazing love is makes me think he really values meaningful connections and would like to be with someone if he could.

    About Dumbledore's sister Ariana, she was an Obscurus, and her portrait was shown in the second HP Deadly Hollows movie. She was killed when Grindelwald, Dumbledore and his brother were having a fight, but we don't know whose spell killed her. One of Dumbledore's greatest fear was that it was HIS spell that killed her, and he relived that in the 6th HP movie when he drank the potion to get the horcrux. Remember Dumbledore's hand was cursed in the 6th HP movie? It was because he tried to put on Tom Riddle's ring which had the Resurrection Stone on it since he wanted to talk to his sister once again.

  • @HygorBH
    @HygorBH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The reason why Dumbledore refused the Quilin's request is because Dumbledore doesn't trust himself with power. Remember, he and Grindelwald once wanted to enslave the Muggles because Dumbledore was arrogant with power. The only place Dumbledore feels safe is at Hogwarts, because mentoring and nurturing young wizards is comforting to him. Dumbledore also refused the position of Minister of Magic three times because he never trusted himself.
    What's more, the reason why Dumbledore ended getting the curse on his hand that would kill him in Half-Blood Prince was because he in a moment of weakness, tried to use the Ressurection Stone that was inside one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, his mother's ring, and when he put on the ring, the curse was activated, and Dumbledore, while talking to Harry in limbo, said that it was yet another proof that Dumbledore couldn't be trusted with power, because he wanted to see his sister again so much, and his desire to have the power to do so "corrupted" him, and that's why Dumbledore refuses any position of power besides being Headmaster of Hogwarts.

    This movie is my favorite of the three for the same thing that stood out to you: the duels are awesome!!! Even in Harry Potter, the only duel we have that's as creative and eccentric as the ones in the books is when Dumbledore goes against Voldemort in the Ministry of Magic (Order of the Phoenix). In the books, the only time wands connect is when Harry and Voldemort try to battle, and only because their wands are sisters. This doesn't happen with ANY other characters! They always use crazy spells, for example in the department of mysteries when someone hits a death eater with a spell that gives him a baby head and he just goes around screaming with the head of a baby on top of an adult body lol
    Another thing that I love is how gay this movie is. I was afraid JK Rowling would never explicitly SAY that Dumbledore and Grindelwald were lovers, so I was pretty surprised when Dumbledore says "I was in love with you" in the first scene of the movie! Dumbledore also acts like a gay guy to me, in the sense that we can feel how closed and kinda disconnected he is from everyone because he doesn't have anyone who'd understand him like Grindelwald.
    Lastly, there's a lot of Brazil in this! Vicência Santos, our minister of magic, played by the amazing Maria Fernanda Cândido; there are posters about her in the elections in Bhutan and they're all written in English; there's a quick scene showing the Brazilian Minister of Magic when she wins the election; the designers made the symbol for the brazilian ministry and it has some of our animals (and it's cool they got to do that, because one of them is Brazilian and he's been working in these movies since Philosopher Stone and never get to make anything Brazil-related).

    • @VerowakReacts
      @VerowakReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I want more duels like this! A shame we had to wait so long to see something like that. I actually thought Dumbledore was just someone who doesn't particularly want to be around others, that's what I felt. He'll work with others but not really get close to them, which is very much like me.
      I like seeing people be happy that actors from their own country and notice these things! I never would have known any of this, thank you!

    The next two movies are unlikely to be made anytime soon. SoD flopped at the box office.
    Ironically they could have finished the series with this movies given both characters began a duel, displace the action in 1945 instead of 1932, finish the duel and you have the finish of the series.
    WB looked at ways to sabotage this franchise hard and didn't even gave all they got into it to finish properly.
    Dumbledore teleporting during the duel is exactly what I would've liked to see in Order of the Phoenix because this is exactly what he did in the book, evading attacks by teleporting himself.
    Lally's magical feats are closer to what the HP books depicted than any of the HP movies ever did like in McGonagall vs Snape in Deathly Hallows, she used transfiguration of objects sent by Snape to reverse the attack on him, in the books (in the movie she just sends fire to him, that's lame as she is much better than that)
    If they are ever to make the next two movies (so many plotlines being already closed in this one, one movie will be enough), It guess that my original theory of Grindelwald using WW2 as a cover fpr the Wizarding war by superwising the evil Muggles to wage war (like his ideology being close to Hitler's is no coincidence) against not only eachother (the Allies would have, de facto being on the wizards side), but he clearly wasn't successful because boosting the Axis with magical agents could have made them win and it didn't happen...
    I have a theory about the pact breaking up: both Grindelwald and Dumbledore ceased to love eachother and decided to walk away from their feelings. At the same moment, Grindelwald attacked one of Dumbledore's relatives and Albus only went to protect him, not really moving against Grindelwald but the break of trust broke the pact nonetheless as it was mutual.
    Grindelwald disappearing in a litteral cliffhanger was... a really trollish and disrespecting move from WB, especially in the doubt of a future movie, hence that would have preferred them finishing the series right now, in the third movie, it would have been a trilogy and no more trouble would have been required but no, even in their undecisiveness and their corruption and incompetence, they decided to go for the easy and not the right...
    Katherine Waterston was against the sacking of Johnny Depp and was subsequently rewarded with a nearly siacking from the movie, plus she had covid. And have you noticed how much some scnes looked distant? anti-covid measures for you, in the last confrontation, some characters are even added in post production, not having even filmed the scene together !
    Madds was very good as Grindelwald though, I liked both actors in the role, they both did a great job in their own way, Madds was very coldhearted and reminds me of a certain Russia president in a way...

    • @VerowakReacts
      @VerowakReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a big loss if they aren't made, though it would be nice to see more Dumbledore. I'm not sure how WB tried to sabotage the franchise, but the storyline was... very disappointing seeing how Harry Potter was. I was expecting way more for the plot and character development. It's as if it was a different author that wrote these.
      No big loss on not having Tina in the movie, it was a nice break from that character (another reason why it feels like a different author wrote these characters, seeing as how Harry Potter had lots of great ones). I didn't notice how some scenes looked distant, but understandable since covid was I think at its peak when they were filming.
      Lally's magic is great, definitely would have been amazing if HP had some of that!

  • @thirteenthandy
    @thirteenthandy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Oh, I almost forgot to follow up on my earlier comment about the chemistry between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in this movie. One of my favorite parts of this one, was that not only were both roles acted wonderfully, but that Dumbledore's flaws were shown in more detail. We all knew he wasn't perfect. Now we can see that not only was he blinded by young infatuation, but that he was also expertly manipulated by Grindelwald. I don't doubt that Grindelwald loved him back in a way, likely against his better judgement, but there is evidence to suggest that Grindelwald intentionally traveled to visit his Great Aunt Bathilda in Godric's Hollow that summer, not by coincidence, but in order to win the trust and support of the boy already then being called one of the greatest wizards of his age. There is nothing indicating that he traveled there intending to seduce Dumbledore in any way other than with promises of power, but emotional seduction is certainly the path he took and it worked. He's a brilliantly calculating wizard, and that is one of the things I think this movie showed exceptionally well. He had his complex plans to gain power and locate/capture the Obscurial in the first two movies, but this one showed his manipulative side the best in my opinion, and how helpless Dumbledore was and in a large part still is against it.
    I hope we get to see how Dumbledore tips the scales of power in their relationship to the point where Dumbledore actually convinces Grindelwald that his goals were wrong, and it results in not only winning the famous duel but in Grindelwald accepting that he deserves his sentence of lifelong imprisonment to atone for his crimes. That must have been a hell of a discussion. We also need the answer to the question that Rita Skeeter poses: was their duel really the amazing spectacle of magical prowess as it has been presented in the history books, or is there something important that the wizarding world hasn't been told?

    It`s not JUST because that I am from Denmark, but Mads Mikkelsen felt way more of, what I expected Grindelwald to be, from the books

      @@erikperhs_ yes in the screenplay it says the hide around the mother qilin protected her from the curse. Also giants and magical creatures like dragons are indeed magic resistance to thanks to their magic resistant blood/body. Dragons bodys have ancient magic in them so they are very durable. But it does not save them from the killing curse or powerful wizards. If a powerful wizard casts a stunning spell at a giant they will be effected. And the killing curse is something very different from normal magic. It is designed to target life/soul not a physical form. No matter how magic resistant giants and other magical creatures are with their body the curse will simply ignore their physical features and take the life out of them.

    The actor who portrayed the German Minister Anton Vogel, Oliver Masucci, famously played Hitler a few years back in the satirical black comedy film “Look Who's Back”, so it’s kinda fitting to see him play the magical head of state in 1930’s Germany.
    The mirror is same prop Aberforth used to communicate with Harry during Deathly Hallows, with it originally being a gift from Sirius.
    The German prison and it’s warden are quite horrific.
    I don’t get why Grindelwald is so angry Credence didn’t notice the second infant, considering Vinda Rosier, his hot 2nd in command, was also there that night.
    Of course Tina would come to her sister’s wedding, not sure why Newt is surprised.

      I dislike Jacob's comedy. I think otherwise he would be a great character and I would enjoy him.
      It feels like a LOT of things were... badly written or forgotten in these movies, and it saddens me 😭
      A lot of it felt forced and nonsensical.

      I like Jacob, but in this movie he's COMPLETELY useless. The explanation they gave for why they needed him was not convincing at all. They brought him back only for the humor and to keep the original main characters, but I think it would be much better if they were bold enough to just cast him aside. Not just him, but also Queenie and Newt, like they did with Tina. They were cool for the first movies, but now the fight is getting bigger. We need bigger wizards to fight alongside Dumbledore. Lally, Aberforth, Aurelius and maybe even McGonagall would form a great group for this mission.

    The Secrets of Dumbledore was pretty good! I still think my favorite one is probably the 2nd FB movie. I think the reason we all loved Johnny Depp as Grindelwald is because we know what he's capable of on screen. With his role being more important in Dumbledore's Secret, he would've taken Grindelwald to the next level. Mads Mikkelsen did a great job though. I'm glad he made that character his own. I'm just a bit biased. Johnny Depp has been my favorite actor since What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
