Sometimes films grow on you. At first I wasn't that impressed with Pulp Fiction. Now after watching it a couple times I think it's a good film that tells it's story in a very unconventional way. Vincent was in the bathroom all the time because long term opioid use makes a person extremely constipated. The drugs put your digestive system into slow motion. I was on morphine for a couple years to mitigate the pain from degenerative joint disease while fighting a severe staph infection in one leg. I had a lot of problems from the drugs.
I really like your reaction and you're right, this movie is a masterpiece and it isn't for everyone. It even has a lot of humorous scenes but it definitively isn't a comedy. 😉 If you want to watch some really good comedies I would recommend Operation Petticoat (1959), We're No Angels (1955), Some like it hot (1959), Mrs Doubtfire (1993), The Birdcage (1996) or While you were sleeping (1995, fits also as a christmas movie). 😂 Also especially in the 80s/90s there were some great franchises like Back to the future I-III, the 'Naked Gun' movies, Ghostbusters I+II (+Afterlife!) and newer ones are e.g. Rush Hour I-III and Men in Black I-III.😉

The movie isn’t for everyone. An honest negative reaction is far better than a contrived positive reaction. The dialogue between Vincent and Jules is great. And Jules’ epiphany at the end: “You are the weak; and I am the tyranny of evil men” is brilliant.
Kamilla, you may not have liked the movie all that much, but I did notice throughout your reaction video that it kept your attention, which is a win in itself. You may find that the movie grows on you as you get older with repeated viewings. It did for me, for sure.
I can fully agree with that. I was like 18 or 19 when I watched this movie for the first time and I asked myself "TF did I watch?" The second time I watched it, I was around 28 or 29 and I enjoyed it very much. For me, Pulp Fiction is still the best Tarantino movie so far. :)

Disturbing yes, but you gotta say memorable. The time-flicking was especially ingenious, the narrative is tightly controlled, the characters are larger than life, the quotes are quotable, the dark humour is spot-on and the performances are first-rate, especially Jackson's, Keitel's and Thurman's. This movie came out in the mid 90's and it was the first time people watch something like that in the big screen! So it was iconic. Of course over the years we've seen a lot of other movies but Pulp fiction is still a classic.
If i had 3 wishes, one of them would probably be forget all about pulp fiction so i could watch while high again, like the first time. Top 1 movie ever.
"I'm stressing for his sake" when I heard that I thought "Honey, you've got a big storm coming". It is true it's not for everyone. Superficially, it's very violent, has lots of drug use and offensive language, and most of the characters are terrible people and criminals. Yet, it has a moral layer to it. Two of the characters who come out of this alive and well are Butch and Jules. Butch redeems himself by saving Marcellus and Jules renounces his criminal life and retires. Meanwhile, Vincent and Marcellus, two unrepentant criminals, don't do so well. I think this moral layer is intentional and important because Jules' line at the end "I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd" is given a key position in the movie(the end) and we get a tight closeup on him when he delivers it. I think that was Tarantino's way of telling the audience THIS is what the movie was about.
This is probably my favorite movie ever. The first time I watched it I was mesmerized by how every scene surprised me and how every scene did it by making up something much better than everything I imagined, funnier, more exciting. Every minute, a new twist. And everything is connected. Upon rewatching, the movie is full of little details. For example, the girl was talking about bellies because she was pregnant, or how Vincent was always in the toilet every time something happened (three times in a row! XD) Tarantino's movies have amazing dialogue, great suspense, fun, and violence. And feet. And I love all of them ^^

I mean, I am not saying that this may be one of the best movies ever made and that anyone who doesn't like it it's just because that person doesn't get it, but... Oh, ok. Look at that. I just said it :D Now seriously, the cinematography here is too great to pretend it's not. I can only admit that there may be personal tastes in play that could prevent someone to fully enjoy the movie. Maybe you don't like violence at all, you can't stand seeing someone being shot in the face EVEN IF IT DOESN'T REALLY APPEAR IN THE SCREEN, or maybe the shock component is too much for you, or maybe you don't like people talking, and the lack of iron man or something like that... But the cinematography is too great to be "oh, this is so overrated". What's great in this movie is too clear to be ignored, apart from the personal tastes of each one. Over the years the cult of this movie only has grown and it will keep growing over time, I am sure of it.

When Jules saw a miracle, he chose to quit the criminal life. Vincent brushed off the miracle and did not quit. Plus he straight-up disrespected Butch the first time he met him and made an enemy for no reason. Vincent got himself killed because he lacked respect and didn’t take the chance he was given to leave the criminal life.
Also Vincent always being on toilet is a result of his heroin use, so in the end heeoin ended up getting him killed, just not in the way you would expect
I totally agree. Have always felt this film was about showing that most of the time even seedy characters (sinners) can have redeeming moments of epiphany. Which can lead to a new outlook on life. But that some fail to recognize their sins and thus suffer the consequences. If you look at it closely, most of the characters end up forgiving others… except for Vincent.
If I was in Vincent’s position I would have taken my gun to the bathroom. I also would have waited for Marcellus to return to the apartment before going, if I could hold it that long. I mean he’s waiting for Butch, so how could it not occur to him that Butch might show up?
John Travolta started out AS a dancer studying theater. Dance, and singing. Its interesting when you asked that question of whether or not he could even dance. It made some of us older fans.. smile ;)
I have one of those BMF wallets. One of my all time favs. If you think back you'll realize that the storyline actually ends when Butch and girlfriend ride off on Zed's motorcycle, er, chopper. Y'all be safe
This is one of those movies that just gets better each time you watch it. First time I saw it I really didn't appreciate it much, but after 3 or 4 views I realized what a masterpiece it is (the dialogue and how the story lines come together are just genius writing). I can still watch it today I find new small details that makes me chuckle.
I saw it in theater and loved it. I still watch it on DVD. I agree, you find new things to appreciate every time you watch it.👍 One of my all time favorites for sure.
It's also important to appreciate what this movie meant in 1994. It brought John Travolta back into the spotlight and very few people saw any movie like this before.
She really didn't like the movie, but respect for being honest about saying not really liking it. It was still entertaining watching you react to some of memorable scenes in this movie.
From the first scene to the second to last scene, you kept saying, "What am I watching?" Or, "it can't be worse than this." I was saying to myself, just wait, Camilla. A comedy? I lost it when you said that.
Also Mia ODed on heroin because Vincent's dealer didn't have the usual containers heroin is sold in which made Mia think it is cocaine. This is also something most people don't know obviously.
The conversations in this film are on another level, Tarantino does an excellent job on showing how people talk to each other when everyone has a coolness skill of 10 outta 10. Edit: What a soundtrack too, grade A

You have to remember that the title is Pulp Fiction. The old pulp fiction books had heavy-handed plots, rough characters and gritty action. For most readers, they were a window into another world. But they were typically novelettes, so it was a medium that allowed the author to insert dialogue and directly speak to the reader to explain what might have been less than familiar. And above all, it was intended to be rather shocking, very lurid. So the film, not being able to see easily explain, includes many references that a lot of people might not know. Usually nothing to do with the times but with the milieu. Drugs. She assumed cocaine, but it was the heroin he bought. And trying to "snort" it sent it straight into her blood stream in what was a very large dose and nearly killed her. The adrenaline injection into her heart is not very credible. A heroin dealer who wanted to keep something around in case of overdoes on heroin, an opiate, would have done better to keep naloxone, Narcan, which would have simply been injected into any vein and would have instantly reversed the heroin. Not nearly so dramatic, though. And penetrating her sternum was hardly necessary. A long cardiac needle can be easily passed over the top of a rib, drawing back the plunger until you strike blood, telling you it's in the heart. The "gimp" was a person kept for sexual purposes. It's bondage play. The guy in the gimp suit was likely more or less voluntarily playing. A real thing. Once in searching a house, I came upon a "gimp box", a wooden box in which the gimp was kept. He was apparently off that day, as the box was empty. A remarkable variety of things can be covertly carried in the rectum. Criminal and concentration camp prisoners hoped to get a "plan", a metal two-part rounded end container that could hold some money or papers. Quite a chore, since it had to be recovered and replaced with each bowel movement. And in the roughest of situations, some prisoners aware that another had something of high value, might go for the plan with a knife. Carrying the watch without the aid of some more smooth container would indeed have been a PITA.
All Tarantino movies have a theme behind them. Pulp Fictions theme is honour. Disregard the drugs, the killings and the vulgarity. Everything that is happening in the movie, every decision and every act is driven by either honour, or lack of. And characters struggle with it, or hold it dear within their heart. Vincent and Mia. Butch and his watch. Butch and Marcellus, the latter being saved by a honourable decision by the former and returning the favour. This is why the movie is sneakily very powerful, albeit a lot of people don't catch it on the first viewing. Also, Fabienne is a diss by Tarantino on French cinema. A deserved one, let's be real.
Don’t know how many people will know this but I love it when cartoon voice actors appear in live action films and most of them do it before they appear in the shows that make them big. For example Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob) is in Shawshank. In this instance, Phil LaMarr, who plays Marvin, is also known for playing Hermes Conrad from Futurama, and Ollie Williams from Family Guy. He’s also known for being on MadTV
I was working as a paramedic in Brooklyn in '94. When he said "Coke is dead. Heroin's coming back in a big way," he wasn't fucking kidding. That was exactly true. We began seeing less of crack, and more of heroin. I was giving enough Narcan to fill a 55-gallon drum.

I would much rather see somebody not enjoy a film as much as others and be sincere about it then somebody who puts on a fake smile and says they loved it. I looked it up because I was curious. $1 in 1994 is about equivalent to $2 today. So, when Mia orders a $5 milkshake and Vincent is shocked, it's the equivalent to a $10 milkshake today. I would also be dubious that a plain milkshake could possible be worth $10.
Vincent went on to die by machine gun, Jules became a drifter and musician before taking the name Rufus to avoid being found by Mr. Wallace's goons. When a group of assassins entered the wedding rehearsal he was playing piano at, he didn't even flinch. He merely assumed they were there for him at last.

When Vince was buying heroin and Lance the drug dealer told him he was out of balloons, and asked if a baggie was ok, that's a detail that ties into Mia's overdose. Heroin and cocaine are both white powders, so to make sure they aren't mixed up, dealers usually sell heroin in balloons and coke in little plastic bags (baggies). But Lance was out of balloons, so he asked Vince if it was ok to sell him the heroin in a baggie. Since Vince doesn't do coke, there was no risk of him mixing up his drugs, so he took the heroin in a baggie. Later when Mia came home wearing Vince's coat, she found the baggie in the coat pocket. Because it was a baggie, she assumed it was coke. She was wrong. Not only was it heroin, but it was "madman" heroin, i.e. really strong heroin. So Mia who had probably never done heroin in her life, snorted a whole nose-full of madman heroin and immediately overdosed.
Pro tip...his first show was Welcome Back Kotter, very funny TV show! And he danced. Then in proly all his movies until the 2000s, he had a dance part, and killed it in Saturday Night Fever!
I appreciate your honesty and you're right, this movie isn't for everyone. But at least you can say you saw it and you know it's not for you. Looking forward to your next reaction.
Believe me, everyone was surprised about the weird things that happened in this movie when we saw it for the first time. We like it for the acting (Samuel L Jackson should have won the academy award for this movie), the dialogue, the amazing pacing and different chronological structure (non linear story elements), and those brilliant uninterrupted long takes. In spite of the horrific events and strange situations, there is also a lot of comedy as well. I said previously that this is one of those movies that get better each time you watch it, and those are the reasons why. I also understand if it doesn’t appeal to you (and I agree that a lot flew over your head because of where this takes place and the fact that it takes inspiration from the lurid, trashy pulp novels from the past that you may not be familiar with). I’m not into violent movies at all, but once I saw this it became one of my all time favorites.

Every time, every single time. All Marvin had to do was have an opinion and I wouldn't laugh at him having his head blasted off. One of Tarantino's pure comedy gold moments.
I can't relate to anyone who can't appreciate Pulp Fiction, but I guess the honesty is still much better than reactors pretending to get excited and enjoy any garbage show or movie they react to. Maybe once you get over the initial shock, you can appreciate this masterpiece more.
My brother and I saw this as an Oscar-nominee double feature with Shawshank Redemption. Our butts were really tired from sitting through Shawshank Redemption, and we almost walked out of Pulp Fiction near the beginning... but we both ended up being REALLY glad that we stayed. There are just so many good parts to this movie... the watch story... the Lava soap comment... sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'll never know. It takes a while for your brain to sort through everything, but it is a classic for sure!

Cannot recommend Tarantino movies enough. True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Jackie Brown, Death Proof, Kill Bill 1+2, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. They do all have at least one rough scene, but you can't help but get endeared. As clever and funny as they are adult.
24:09 To be fair, Butch hasn't had any food since well before his fight the night before, so his blood sugar is probably low, though he should have just taken those off brand Pop-Tarts and eaten them cold on the run (on a road trip, a friend and I argued for 20 miles about eating Pop-Tarts cold). On the other hand, if he had done that, he wouldn't have eliminated Vincent who was sent to kill him. I mean, we like Vincent, but one less deadly threat, right?

Just because I know they use a kantana in Kill Bill doesn't mean I've seen the movie. I've seen Kill Buljo, which is a norwegian parody of the film. Several people at dancing with the stars also used kill bill as reference to their dances. Example: Funkygine 🤍

This movie came out in the mid 90's and it was the first time people watch something like that in the big screen! So it was iconic.
Of course over the years we've seen a lot of other movies but Pulp fiction is still a classic.

If i had 3 wishes, one of them would probably be forget all about pulp fiction so i could watch while high again, like the first time. Top 1 movie ever.
"I'm stressing for his sake" when I heard that I thought "Honey, you've got a big storm coming". It is true it's not for everyone. Superficially, it's very violent, has lots of drug use and offensive language, and most of the characters are terrible people and criminals. Yet, it has a moral layer to it. Two of the characters who come out of this alive and well are Butch and Jules. Butch redeems himself by saving Marcellus and Jules renounces his criminal life and retires. Meanwhile, Vincent and Marcellus, two unrepentant criminals, don't do so well. I think this moral layer is intentional and important because Jules' line at the end "I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd" is given a key position in the movie(the end) and we get a tight closeup on him when he delivers it. I think that was Tarantino's way of telling the audience THIS is what the movie was about.

This is probably my favorite movie ever. The first time I watched it I was mesmerized by how every scene surprised me and how every scene did it by making up something much better than everything I imagined, funnier, more exciting. Every minute, a new twist. And everything is connected.
Upon rewatching, the movie is full of little details. For example, the girl was talking about bellies because she was pregnant, or how Vincent was always in the toilet every time something happened (three times in a row! XD)
Tarantino's movies have amazing dialogue, great suspense, fun, and violence. And feet. And I love all of them ^^
my first time watching this, i thought it was a huge waste of time and money. I had to watch it again a few years later before I appreciated it.

Now seriously, the cinematography here is too great to pretend it's not. I can only admit that there may be personal tastes in play that could prevent someone to fully enjoy the movie. Maybe you don't like violence at all, you can't stand seeing someone being shot in the face EVEN IF IT DOESN'T REALLY APPEAR IN THE SCREEN, or maybe the shock component is too much for you, or maybe you don't like people talking, and the lack of iron man or something like that...
But the cinematography is too great to be "oh, this is so overrated". What's great in this movie is too clear to be ignored, apart from the personal tastes of each one. Over the years the cult of this movie only has grown and it will keep growing over time, I am sure of it.

When Jules saw a miracle, he chose to quit the criminal life. Vincent brushed off the miracle and did not quit. Plus he straight-up disrespected Butch the first time he met him and made an enemy for no reason. Vincent got himself killed because he lacked respect and didn’t take the chance he was given to leave the criminal life.
Also Vincent always being on toilet is a result of his heroin use, so in the end heeoin ended up getting him killed, just not in the way you would expect
I totally agree. Have always felt this film was about showing that most of the time even seedy characters (sinners) can have redeeming moments of epiphany. Which can lead to a new outlook on life. But that some fail to recognize their sins and thus suffer the consequences. If you look at it closely, most of the characters end up forgiving others… except for Vincent.
If I was in Vincent’s position I would have taken my gun to the bathroom. I also would have waited for Marcellus to return to the apartment before going, if I could hold it that long. I mean he’s waiting for Butch, so how could it not occur to him that Butch might show up?
Butch got him back right away by keying his car.

John Travolta the actor would dance circles around his character Vincent Vega. "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever" tells the tale.
This is one of those movies that just gets better each time you watch it. First time I saw it I really didn't appreciate it much, but after 3 or 4 views I realized what a masterpiece it is (the dialogue and how the story lines come together are just genius writing). I can still watch it today I find new small details that makes me chuckle.
I saw it in theater and loved it. I still watch it on DVD. I agree, you find new things to appreciate every time you watch it.👍 One of my all time favorites for sure.
It's also important to appreciate what this movie meant in 1994. It brought John Travolta back into the spotlight and very few people saw any movie like this before.
When Mia describes "Fox Force Five". It becomes 2 of Tarantino's movies. KILL Bill Vol 1 and 2. You should def watch sometime.

She really didn't like the movie, but respect for being honest about saying not really liking it. It was still entertaining watching you react to some of memorable scenes in this movie.

You have to remember that the title is Pulp Fiction. The old pulp fiction books had heavy-handed plots, rough characters and gritty action. For most readers, they were a window into another world. But they were typically novelettes, so it was a medium that allowed the author to insert dialogue and directly speak to the reader to explain what might have been less than familiar. And above all, it was intended to be rather shocking, very lurid. So the film, not being able to see easily explain, includes many references that a lot of people might not know. Usually nothing to do with the times but with the milieu.
Drugs. She assumed cocaine, but it was the heroin he bought. And trying to "snort" it sent it straight into her blood stream in what was a very large dose and nearly killed her.
The adrenaline injection into her heart is not very credible. A heroin dealer who wanted to keep something around in case of overdoes on heroin, an opiate, would have done better to keep naloxone, Narcan, which would have simply been injected into any vein and would have instantly reversed the heroin. Not nearly so dramatic, though. And penetrating her sternum was hardly necessary. A long cardiac needle can be easily passed over the top of a rib, drawing back the plunger until you strike blood, telling you it's in the heart.
The "gimp" was a person kept for sexual purposes. It's bondage play. The guy in the gimp suit was likely more or less voluntarily playing. A real thing. Once in searching a house, I came upon a "gimp box", a wooden box in which the gimp was kept. He was apparently off that day, as the box was empty.
A remarkable variety of things can be covertly carried in the rectum. Criminal and concentration camp prisoners hoped to get a "plan", a metal two-part rounded end container that could hold some money or papers. Quite a chore, since it had to be recovered and replaced with each bowel movement. And in the roughest of situations, some prisoners aware that another had something of high value, might go for the plan with a knife. Carrying the watch without the aid of some more smooth container would indeed have been a PITA.
All Tarantino movies have a theme behind them. Pulp Fictions theme is honour.
Disregard the drugs, the killings and the vulgarity. Everything that is happening in the movie, every decision and every act is driven by either honour, or lack of. And characters struggle with it, or hold it dear within their heart. Vincent and Mia. Butch and his watch. Butch and Marcellus, the latter being saved by a honourable decision by the former and returning the favour. This is why the movie is sneakily very powerful, albeit a lot of people don't catch it on the first viewing.
Also, Fabienne is a diss by Tarantino on French cinema. A deserved one, let's be real.
Don’t know how many people will know this but I love it when cartoon voice actors appear in live action films and most of them do it before they appear in the shows that make them big. For example Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob) is in Shawshank. In this instance, Phil LaMarr, who plays Marvin, is also known for playing Hermes Conrad from Futurama, and Ollie Williams from Family Guy. He’s also known for being on MadTV

I was working as a paramedic in Brooklyn in '94. When he said "Coke is dead. Heroin's coming back in a big way," he wasn't fucking kidding. That was exactly true. We began seeing less of crack, and more of heroin. I was giving enough Narcan to fill a 55-gallon drum.
"I think it's a comedy". There's always some humor in Tarantino movies but you going in thinking that's what it is makes this 10x more entertaining

I would much rather see somebody not enjoy a film as much as others and be sincere about it then somebody who puts on a fake smile and says they loved it. I looked it up because I was curious. $1 in 1994 is about equivalent to $2 today. So, when Mia orders a $5 milkshake and Vincent is shocked, it's the equivalent to a $10 milkshake today. I would also be dubious that a plain milkshake could possible be worth $10.

Vincent went on to die by machine gun, Jules became a drifter and musician before taking the name Rufus to avoid being found by Mr. Wallace's goons. When a group of assassins entered the wedding rehearsal he was playing piano at, he didn't even flinch. He merely assumed they were there for him at last.

When Vince was buying heroin and Lance the drug dealer told him he was out of balloons, and asked if a baggie was ok, that's a detail that ties into Mia's overdose. Heroin and cocaine are both white powders, so to make sure they aren't mixed up, dealers usually sell heroin in balloons and coke in little plastic bags (baggies). But Lance was out of balloons, so he asked Vince if it was ok to sell him the heroin in a baggie. Since Vince doesn't do coke, there was no risk of him mixing up his drugs, so he took the heroin in a baggie. Later when Mia came home wearing Vince's coat, she found the baggie in the coat pocket. Because it was a baggie, she assumed it was coke. She was wrong. Not only was it heroin, but it was "madman" heroin, i.e. really strong heroin. So Mia who had probably never done heroin in her life, snorted a whole nose-full of madman heroin and immediately overdosed.
"What am I watching?!?" Now THAT is the typical response to this movie! 😝

Believe me, everyone was surprised about the weird things that happened in this movie when we saw it for the first time. We like it for the acting (Samuel L Jackson should have won the academy award for this movie), the dialogue, the amazing pacing and different chronological structure (non linear story elements), and those brilliant uninterrupted long takes.
In spite of the horrific events and strange situations, there is also a lot of comedy as well. I said previously that this is one of those movies that get better each time you watch it, and those are the reasons why.
I also understand if it doesn’t appeal to you (and I agree that a lot flew over your head because of where this takes place and the fact that it takes inspiration from the lurid, trashy pulp novels from the past that you may not be familiar with). I’m not into violent movies at all, but once I saw this it became one of my all time favorites.
Tarantino is definitely not a "typical" director (for lack of a better term) but he makes interesting flicks.

Every time, every single time. All Marvin had to do was have an opinion and I wouldn't laugh at him having his head blasted off. One of Tarantino's pure comedy gold moments.
I can't relate to anyone who can't appreciate Pulp Fiction, but I guess the honesty is still much better than reactors pretending to get excited and enjoy any garbage show or movie they react to.

My brother and I saw this as an Oscar-nominee double feature with Shawshank Redemption. Our butts were really tired from sitting through Shawshank Redemption, and we almost walked out of Pulp Fiction near the beginning... but we both ended up being REALLY glad that we stayed. There are just so many good parts to this movie... the watch story... the Lava soap comment... sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'll never know. It takes a while for your brain to sort through everything, but it is a classic for sure!

Cannot recommend Tarantino movies enough. True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Jackie Brown, Death Proof, Kill Bill 1+2, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. They do all have at least one rough scene, but you can't help but get endeared. As clever and funny as they are adult.

Thoughts on your review: Yes this movie is not for everyone true, its not like the disney productions purely made to use a allready celebrated cinematic universe for them to implement their politcs into it and turn in a huge revenue (Marvel and Starwars). It is just pure cinematic and theatrical gold that maybe not everyone can understand or at least doesnt want or have the time to understand. Tarantino made his early movie purely on his passion for cinema he made his dreams become real and he did everything it took to make them as he wanted them to be without the studios involvement.
In the end we all have our own taste and you have all the right to dislike this movie, I still loved your reaction it really took me back to the first time I saw this masterpiece. 9/10 for me dawg SLJ is a beast. SKÅL pike :)
Just because I know they use a kantana in Kill Bill doesn't mean I've seen the movie.
I've seen Kill Buljo, which is a norwegian parody of the film. Several people at dancing with the stars also used kill bill as reference to their dances. Example: Funkygine 🤍
