  • In this video I review and discuss the Godox Litemons LC30bi LED light and talk about why it may be my main wedding video light going forward. I compare the Godox Litemons LC30bi against the wedding filmmaker favorite light, the Aputure LS60x. Is the bigger light always better? Is the Litemons LC30bi LED light bright enough for wedding videography? Just sharing with you in my search for the best lights for wedding videography.

    Love it Vu. Thanks for this. Bought one with your link. I too have been looking for a way to lighten the gear. The aputure is great but huge. I suspect this little light will fit into the S2 godox bracket so you could use it with a Bowens modifier or an umbrella. The bracket isn't small, but it is robust...

      You could use the bracket, but there is a possibility that you'll be constrained by the beam angle of the light. Cob lights have much wider beam (bare chip) that fills the softbox much better. With lc 30 you could end up with hotspot...

    Hey Vu, thanks for the review. I was just about to buy two LS60x but stumbled upon this video. Is it your go to now or for certain venues only? Seems like there's no wireless app control or weather resistance. Obviously can't have it all for $100 but is that something you miss for your weddings? @@vsc604: at least when it comes to flashlights, all I need to understand is lumens and calculated range. Even if you don't own a powerful flashlight, you can compare the lumen output of your house lights (300-900 lm usually). Higher CRI and warmer tints are inherently less efficient and generate a lot more of waste heat. What good is a lot of watts if the light throttles thermally and loses efficiency in the process? What about integrated optics (e.g. fresnel lenses)? Those also reduce efficiency!
      If I am putting a modifier over my light or simply bouncing it, I care about the total output and not intensity at an arbitrary distance. Floodier lights can have more light output but less range, and I would like to be able to compare that based on the specs. I guess it would be good to have both figures in the spec sheet. Maybe the manufacturers are simply too lazy or I am just not their target demographic.
      PS my main gripe is not the wattage rating (as it is very useful when determining if your fuses in the garage are gonna blow), but the light output specs.

      @@piotrgraniszewski8544 prefer the lux photometry, especially in this kind of spot lights. Lumens are great to compare outputs of lights, but beam size and lux at various meters are more operational for me. This light's beam angle is just 30 degrees with serious falloff from the center of the beam, for example.

    Thank you for review, I bought this light largely because of your review and for the most part I'm satisfied... BUT...
    At 1m (cca 3ft) output is around 8000 lux not 15000 (measured with seconic light meter) and that is not for all color temperatures... At 3200K output is only 6000 lux. Not that important but if you planned to use it outside it is something to be aware of.
    Also the beam angle is NOT flood... it is just 30 degrees which is quite narrow at 3 ft... just 2 feet in width (with serious falloff at far end) so if you need something wider soft attachment is necessary... but it makes the light lot less powerful. Again not important if you're not intending to use it outside.

    • @sbozinovic
      @sbozinovic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About lux... direct sun is around 80000 to 100000 lux, shade can drop down to 15000-10000 or even to 6000 lux.
      As for the intensity of light itself it drops with the inverse square law - double the distance it is 4x less. For lc30 it would be 8000 at 3ft and 2000 at 6ft, or 2 f-stops less. At 9 ft it would be 9 times less, somwhere around 850 lx, etc... so it is some kind of reference when you're planning your shoot.
      Of course, nowadays you'd have f7.1 at 800iso at 850 lux which is insane for a dinosaur like me but it is still important to know lux values if you're planning a shoot outside and consider beam width/distance from subject 😁

      @sbozinovic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephencarlm.calatrava8877 Depends on the intensity of the afternoon light. You could, but of you need 6-8000 lux, you'd be restricted to beam angle of 30 degrees... roughly, CU or MCU... for a full figure, you'd have to move the light firther back and it will decrease the intensity by the power of 2... ie. if you move the light from 3 to 6 feet the intensity will be 4 times less, if you move it to 9 feet the light will be 9 times weaker.

      @@stephencarlm.calatrava8877 don't mention it. I bought this light mainly for the similar reason... I needed something light but powerful for the outside eng purposes. It is a bit of a pain to deal with the necessary batteries (v-lock or double np-f or even BP's which I havent tried yet -the light requires 14v) but, if you are mindful of the ambient light intensity and narrow beam width, it can be a great tool.
