I'm legally blind and use a screen reader and screen magnifier for literally everything, and have wayyy too many keyboards, including an original Model M, haha. This is so cool, thanks for uploading this!
As a blind watcher, thank you for covering this, and for covering screen reader history. Love your videos, though what happened to your beverage today?
I have one of these and it's one of my favorite keyboards in my collection! I did manage to make it a functional keyboard (I used it as a macropad). It's been a few years, but if I recall correctly, it DOES output PS/2 scancodes, but in a non traditional way. It sends various "make" codes, but not the corresponding "break" codes (Or maybe not the correct break code? Something like that). So I wrote a custom PS/2 converter that just looked for the make codes and then remapped it to whatever I wanted. As a result, you can't hold a key down and keep it pressed, it just sends the remapped key presses once. But as a macropad, it was perfectly usable. Anyway, great video! It was fun to see some vintage IBM on your channel again.
Absolutely amazing how IBM managed to make bezels take up enough space that it could fit double the keys it actually has. Side-by-side with the Epomaker had me giggling.
Food for Thought: I think a Buckling Springs Numpad/Macropad would be super perfect. Lowkey would get one lol. Maybe Unicomp could bring this back? Can't wait for the Full Size New Model F review.
Not including stop and help, that kepad is in the standard arraignment for a 16 key dtmf pad. Although the ABCD keys are not common I wouldn't be supprised if they were more frequently used by the blind and using a standard telephone layout makes sense for something aimed at a group who probably had much more experiance with telephones than computers or calculators.
Just think of all the classic songs and bands you can type with this: ABBA, ABACAB, ACDC, ... until someone gives up and presses STOP. But seriously I'd love to know more about whether it can still be used for any screen reader purposes, as someone who lost significant vision 6 years ago out of the blue.
You've probably reviewed so much of this stuff that i would not be surprised if you run out of interesting keyboards to cover with time. At this rate you're gonna end up like Jeremy Wade lol
Oooh, I've got at least an apple keyboard for you to review! I'll clean it up for ya, got an ADB converter? Your vid would need a "waning" intro tho... Oh fucking hell, let's meet up for a beer, you'll need it for those 'boards. (well, got a Dell one that I prefer over other membranes, but still..)
Interesting that it uses a telephone layout with 1 at the top and *#, rather than a computer/calculator layout with 1 at the bottom. (The telephone layout was, of course, famously designed by Satan who was later heard to comment that it was a 'mistake' and 'just too annoying'.)
The imperial 'ton' unit can be a unit of mass, a unit of weight, a unit of volume, a unit of energy, and a unit of power. AFAIK it can't be a unit of time, but you can use tons per ton to get that.
Unfortunately of course the metric year never caught on so we’re still using an imperial calendar You should definitely work to get TH-cam to convert your videos to decimal time too Looks like this was an 13 metric minute video so maybe that affects monetization? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Republican_calendar

The cups part was brilliant 🤣

Glad you found it interesting! :) I only do the beverages during unboxing videos. When filming reviews I usually have a pot of tea standing by.
Sub 75% KB Users: Keypad? That's enough keys for a full keyboard! Just use help and stop as layer keys.
Thx for featuring my keypad

Always great to cover some IBM history :D .
An interesting quirk is that number pad is phone style, rather than calculator/computer style. I think maybe the software may involve DTMF pulses?
The ABCD keys are also part of the DTMF standard. (edit: also the * and # keys)
love getting a video like this in my recommendations in the first minute

looks like vintage is back on the menu bois
1:30 nice sauce bro
wow, its got a lovely sound! always cool to see these old, unique models in action.
Hell yeah, Chyrosran showing an old keeb. What a day
I love the look and sound of it.
Thanks for the video.
Its beautiful.
Love perusing this channel and then seeing a new upload

Can't wait for the Full Size New Model F review.
Such a unique piece, lovely of that person to loan it to you.
I had never thought to express length, mass and time in knocker hammock sizing units before today, but there you go.
I might still have a copy of the Screen Reader for DOS 3.3 somewhere but I unfortunately don't have a DECtalk.
I own a brand new model M 50 key version. it is a bit bigger than keypad and only has programmable keys. It came with transparent keycap.

These are fun, I wish I had gotten my grubby hands on one of those or the unsaver keypads. Maybe one day.
Would have been interesting to see how it worked.
Woo! Neat board.
wer lädt denn ein Video um 7 in der früh hoch?
passt gerade gut zum Kaffee.
I didn't, I uploaded it last weekend and set it to release at 7:00 xD .

Doubtful, as it was specifically intended for IBM's screen reader suite. But of course with reprogramming everything is possible!
hello there chyros, i am typing this on an iphone during my graveyard shift on the west coast of the US!
Good luck with your shift! :) Hope the video entertained you!
The forehead on that thing!!!
These are very small cups. You should use a more normal unit like cubit furlongs per foot Lambert

The Imperial years joke would've been funnier if you were actually using Metric time.

You must not like freedom if you don't like measuring in cups! :)
You must not like freedom. You voted for an orange monkey for president.
All Europeans hate freedom ;p .
Maybe if we show this ultra space saving keyboard to modern enthusiasts, they will move on from MX!
sauce: tomato
I prefer to measure my years in rundlets and butts.
If anyone wants to start the Model F adding machine/calculator group buy, count me IN!
Oh man GIMMEEEEEEE
I like how you consider "year" as metric unit as if Americans who only know imperial don't know what a year is.
Hey man, I've seen enough of Imperial units to know much crazier Imperial things exist than using cups to measure a year xD .

I don't like this 15% Model M form factor.
I would rate this video 5 stars, or 36⅘ cups
