Wish you'd shown you wearing the final item in the video!
I filmed some bits but it was out of focus!! There’s pics on my Instagram and got a video coming up that features this item again!!
@@morehannah oh sweet!!! I just checked, it looks a-mazing!
Sometimes when I should put big items into a laundry bag, or lots of items I just put them into a big pillow case or into a duvet cover 🙈
I upcycle a lot of clothes, The first one I did on my own was because I dyed my hair purple and stupidly didn't change out of my new pair of denims... result I had a big purple blop on my pants 😂 So I ended up drawing a lot of purple hearts on my pants 😂🤣😂
oooh that's a good hack!
I am absolutely obsessed with this channel at the moment. Completely living for the content. Such a great video, and those dungarees are so gorgeous!
thanks so much Zoe!!
I love upcycling clothes. My favourite pair of jeans died in the crotch so I did a big visible mend across the crotch/ass then added a few embroidery things, then a few weeks later I tripped and ripped the knee so I added a visible mend there. It's a lot of fun. I also make old graphic tees into rags by cutting off the pattern and saving it for a quilt I plan on making one day, then just cutting up the rest of the shirt into rectangles
oh cool! my jeans are always dying in the crotch!
@@morehannah I have a super easy way to fix and reinforce the crotch of jeans, if you're interested! The tutorial is posted on my Instagram @sewingwithsofia
@@morehannah Rubbing thighs are a nightmare on crotches. That's where all my pants get ruined. It's the reason i started wearing more slippery fabrics, but i would much prefer wearing all coton.
Hoooly sh*it I'd be so scared to draw on clothes 🙈 (It made me nervous just watching)
Haha I mean I would never trust myself with it
I love this, I mend things but I haven't really experimented with diying because I'm scared.
The one thing to watch out for, for anyone planning something similar, is buying plus size clothing in order to make it something else for a straight sized person. There is already a limited amount of plus sized stock in charity shops, and it can make it hard for people who want to shop more ethically but with a limited budget when people are buying up plus sized clothing with the intention of making it to fit their own straight sized body.
I also forgot to say! Nelle's art style reminds me a bitt of your sister's art style! You plugged her insta a few months ago and I've been like obsessed with her work ever since.
Aaw thanks!! Will tell her :)
I'm not one for painting but I have resewn second hand clothes in the past to make them fit better/fit the vision I had for them. I also do a lot of knitting and am really keen to try and find some second hand knits to unravel so I can reuse the yarn - much cheaper than buying new yarn, especially when making something big like a jumper!
Just saw this was posted "a minute ago" and knew I had to click and watch and comment xD
Love the upcycling effort, it's very important. I've been getting into learning how to sew and mend, I recently bought a denim jacket just for putting clothes patches on it but since it didn't have pockets I made one! (only one so far). I used an old unused tshirt I had at home for the pocket fabric and it's great. Everyone should learn how to sew and mend their clothing to give it a longer lifecycle.
Love this!! Would really like to see more upcycling content. It has inspired me to re-purpose some of my clothes that I haven't worn in a long time, but can't bring myself to part with. Nelle is so talented, and the one-of-a-kind dungaree dress is adorable xx
Thank you!!
The dungarees turned out so cute omg!! I've always dreamed of recycling clothes like this and I've even bought a few second hand items with that it mind recently but I haven't had the courage to actually do it yet because, although I have many ideas, I'm not that confident in my hands. The way Nelle does commissions is amazing! Loved the video!
Thank you!!
I've never drawn on clothes, but I have chopped them in half?! My favourite upcycle of mine is a floor-length black velvet dress that I cropped to the mid-thigh. It's my fave because it had buttons all down the front and negotiating those was a TIME, but so worth it - as a 5 foot 1 person, I never would have worn a floor-length dress!!
Love love love this! I started cracking out my sewing machine again around a year ago and now I can't stop myself from changing things on items I've bought! Often I'll modify straps and the length of items and have even made a couple of pieces from scratch. Really satisfying to say I did it myself and I now own stuff that fits me properly!
I used to draw on T-shirts quite a bit in high school but I stopped for awhile because it wasn't really my style anymore. But maybe I'll start again!
I mostly used T-shirts from clothing swap parties (not sure if this is what they are called in english..) bc that way they were free and I was less afraid to mess up.
Love this!! My mam has being doing this for year with clothes, whenever a white top got worn down or shoes got a bit scruffy she would dye them and get excited to pretty much have completely new clothes!
Pillow case does same as laundry bag so no need to buy laundry bag 😉
Or just reverse the clothes before washing?
Already in love with Nelle, thank you for introducing us to her!! The dungarees omg! At first my brain was like "I've never upcycled anything" and then it reminded itself "but what about all those shoes you've painted on?" and yeah, fair, I have upcycled some stuff. So excited to do more upcycling now though!
Yay this is awesome!! Totally gonna follow her on all the socials 😍 I've been upcycling & learning how to sew the past couple of years and love it so much. I also keep an eye out for white second hand pieces that might not be worn because it's stained etc. & rework it by cutting/sewing or natural dyeing with pine cones, avocados there's so much you can do! I'm so glad to hear how easy it is to paint, definitely will try. I also sell some upcycles on depop/instagram. Wonderful to see I'm not alone, there's a bit of a community now :') Sustainable fashion ftw :)))
ah I've been wanting to paint my denim jacket for ages but wasn't sure what sort of paint or how to go about it etc so this is perfect!! Thank you for all the info!!!
I have definitely done some upcycling, but not quite like this. I like to mend clothes when I can, or alter things i find in thrift shops - i never thought to paint on them tho. My favourite upcycle I've done was for my wife - she had gotten a bleach stain on one of her blazers, so I embroidered some little roses to cover the stain up. It looks super cute!
ooh nice! in that sense I guess I have upcycled before. My coat got a burn hole in it and I put a hufflepuff patch over it!
This is such a cool video! I love how you show the process of creating the upcycled item and not just how it looks at the end. Also really cool to have nelle talking to the camera!
Hannah, this is awesome! Thanks so much for supporting sustainable fashion, and Nelle in particular, she's awesome and doesn't get the recognition she deserves!!
I’m so inspired to start up cycling clothes! My size is constantly changing so end up thrifting clothes and then having a bunch that I don’t fit into. But I don’t want to donate them again cause they’ll probably end up in the global south or in a landfill or burnt.
This has given me so many ideas!!
This was such a great collaboration to watch! I'm really loving the direction of More Hannah and I'm looking forward to more!!
I'd never think to do something like that with a t shirt! I've got several of the sentimental t shirts that I've just been waiting to make pillows out of, but I don't need more pillows, this is such a cool idea!!
I used to do a lot of ~creative upcycling in primary and high school, I remember having this skirt I put colorful scrap fabric patches all over and then I had these jeans that I drew stuff all over. more recently I've just been doing the more regular fixing, like sewing tears, patching up things or slight alterations like cutting off sleeves or collars off of tshirts. I would like to do more nicer creative upcycling but I'm rarely pleased with the final result lol. also my style has changed, I was more into the rougher and more colorful fashion before, and now I prefer plainer darker stuff. I'm sure I could come up with ways to upcycle my stuff anyway, I just haven't gotten into the whole process yet. I've also been putting off buying a sewing machine for Years, perhaps when I finally do it and learn to use it properly, it could kickstart my upcycling because hand sewing just takes so much more time, especially if you just want to hem something or take it in
I loved this! Definitely a great idea & the colour palette on your new dress Hannah is to die for!!!
I absolutely loved this!! Hannah why didn’t you put it on to show us!!!!
Great video! Would also love to watch Hannah shop again. You're so excited and cheerful about the items.
Watching this has got me super inspired! I really want to get back into upcycling clothes
i think i used to have that exact denim dungaree dress
Awesome video!! I really want to learn how to sew so that I can buy more secondhand and tailor things to my liking!
I’m looking forward to watching!! This is such a cool concept ❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing this! I am definitely looking for more upcycling, and beautiful mending techniques!
I love how the dungarees turned out! I do wish you'd modelled the new look though!
I love this! Also, I don't think I've ever seen a piece of clothing that was more you than this one is.
Pillowcases can be pretty good alternatives to laundry bags in a pinch
This is so awesome!!! Definitely following Nelle ASAP :)
It turned out so well!
I'd love to have visited but when I was in Seven Dials a few days ago it wasnt there. Turns out it was open for just a few days in mid November..
I actually have a First Aid Kit shirt that I bought in small before realizing that it was a junior small and at least 1-2 sizes too small. But I have only seen them once and I can’t get rid of it even though I don’t wear it. Though I have zero creativity or sewing skills to do something like this.
Omg this video was so interesting! And so cool! Nell is super talented argh I loved this!!
I’m so not arty at all hahah so not tried upcycling myself, although I do really want to try and dye one of my favourite bags cos it’s gone a funny colour but wouldn’t know where to start!
I’m not arty at all either!!
I like sewing my own clothes but would never think to paint on them! Looks awesome, will definitely be checking out Nelle's Instagram :)
I love this! I really want to learn how to make clothes and changing my clothes!! Haha I have had some tights since before 2010! Still no holes I don't know how?! How do I know? I got a dollop of pink acrylic paint on it haha xx
This is so cool!!!
Amazing work!
How do you wash clothes that you painted on? Does the paint fade or flake after you wash it?
I will often wash them inside out.
The trousers at 4:43 are stunning and look like they were made for you, please tell me you bought them!
Perhaps... I’ve got a video coming up that’s a second hand haul so you might recognise some pieces!!
Love it!
If you don't have the bag, how do you wash your bras?
I have like half a dozen pairs of jeans all with big rips where my thighs have worn through them but otherwise perfect and I've been telling myself for years that I'm going to make something crafty with them. I'm thinking I'm going to need to check out Nelle's insta for some inspo and get making!
I am INSPIRED
Nice and inventive.
A good tradition that all our ancestors have always had but that last generations have dumped somehow.
If we want a cleaner and healthier Planet, we should all get back to do this kind of things, every once in a while.
If you don’t have a laundry bag does that mean you actually hand wash bras?
I love this 😍 I'm coming to the conclusion some of my fave dresses are just never going to zip up cos boobs decided to grow 3 cup sizes bigger in the past year (shout out to the pill and sugar; boyfriend v happy) so I might just... put a panel in? Or two? Or 10? Idk I love my dresses so much that I'd be gutted if I ruined them :/
Maybe find a thrifty friend? I would never have done this myself!! Very grateful for Nelle :)
If you’re cool with lower back dresses, you can cut out the back low enough to give your boobs more space to breathe. Just make sure it’s symmetrical and remember to hem it. And if you’re uncomfortable with not wearing a bra, save the fabric you cut out and use it to make a nice wide strip that can cover up your bra. You’ll just need someone else to pin it in place for you, because trying to pin your clothes while wearing them is tricky.
But if you’re going to add panels, ideally do it where there are seams. So for example, you could open the seams on either side of the dress under your armpits all the way down to your waist, measure how much extra fabric you’ll need and either match something of the same colour (preferably stretchy material because you don’t want to have to do this every time you’re hormones get weird) or a fun pattern in a similar colour scheme. And if you want to make it less obvious that it’s a diy, you can add like a 5cm strip of fabric to the hem of the dress, so the pattern doesn’t only show up in the place where you need it 😉
Washing it inside out should work as well as a laundry bag.
but the stitches can catch on things even if you turn the clothes inside out
You didn't try on the finished item!
4:41 - if that isn't on r/hannahwitton by the end of the week then nothing will...
Literally never been this early.
Welcome
Nelle looks like Maggie Rogers!
OMG
I love the idea of upcycling but everytime i see things, they just dont fit my style at all bc I dress like a vampire basically :/ like dark and elegant not edgy lmao (if someone has any recs/ideas that be really appriciated)
the upsit of that however is that I can wear grandma/granpa clothes you find a lot in second hand stores, just pair thm with some ankle boots and a skinny jeans and boom thats my style
you could do just tiny things like embroider a small detail or add a seam in a different color (like idk if you have a black item u add a dark red seam, where it's not really apparent but when u notice it it looks really cool), but obvs rly depends what ur into
You London lovies don't know how lucky you are with your charity shops. Try second hand shopping in a small, lousy Midlands town who's content is 95% unwanted Primark items and jumpers previously belonging to 64 year old women 😂
Haha oh nooo!! There must be some posh areas of town where you can have a rummage through what the residents there have donated??
"posh areas", my girl if you saw Grantham high street 😂 on a more positive note I upcycled a plain sweater I've had for years the other day by embroidering a decal on it, and I'm currently crocheting my third cosy jumper. Would really recommend crochet, it's pretty easy and there are some great tutorials on here!

No try on? 😯😂
