The Pixel 4A fixed a lot of the problems with the Pixel 4, mostly that it was too expensive and it's battery life was lousy. The Pixel 4A 5G bumps up the screen size and adds 5G support and a wide-angle camera, but it also increases the price enough that the 4A 5G ends up hard to recommend. The full Pixel 5 is just a few hundred dollars more, and the OnePlus Nord and Galaxy S20 FE offer an arguably more premium experience. Pick the 4A 5G up on the inevitable holiday sales, or if you just really really need a headphone jack,

Worse thing during a pandemic is freaking face unlock. Im so happy that the finger print scanner is back
I totally hated he face unlock with mask....I love the touch unlock in 7 plus, and hated the face unlock on 11.
Reasons why someone may choose the Pixel 4a 5G over the regular 4a
- Dual camera (12.2 MP and 16 MP ultrawide)
- Improved processor (Snapdragon 765G vs Snapdragon 730G found in the regular 4A)
- Larger screen (6.2 inch vs 5.8 inch screen)
- 5G Capability to futureproof your pixel
- Larger battery than regular Pixel 4a (3885 mAh vs 3140 mAh)
- 4A 5G will be available in two colors: Black/White
The Pixel 4a 5G is more like the Pixel 5 than it is the Pixel 4a, with the same camera setup and processor. This review lacks objectivity with the points being made and honestly didn't seem all that professional.

And if you pre order the pixel 4a 5g, you get the 300$ bose headphones for free. I wanted to go for the pixel 4a but the fact that you get the headphones for 300 bucks sells me.

Engadget's Pixel 5 review says people should spend less to get Pixel 4a 5G,and their Pixel 4a 5G review says people should pay more to buy Pixel 5.
I think the only truth is that you two reviewed the wrong phone.
Engadget has dumb reviewers
Verizon charges 100 more for the 4a 5G, so that makes the 5 more appealing if that’s your carrier
All of these reviews are subjective.
4A 5G is the best pixel to buy this year unless you care about small other refinements
4a 5G is not a larger 4a. It's a cheaper Pixel 5 without 90hz screen
Good review. The 4a 5G isn't that much more than the 4a. ($500 vs $350 on Google). For that modest bump in price you're getting a larger panel, a wide angle lens, a faster SOC and 5G. That's pretty good bang for buck ratio. Compare that to the $200 more to move from the 4a 5G to the 5: For that extra $200 you get IP rating, a 90 hz panel, a more premium body but the same SOC and cameras. but no headphone jack AND the audio quality of the Pixel 5, by most accounts, is pretty subpar compared to 4a or 4a 5G. Now pricing w Verizon is higher to get diff 5G tech but if you're on Big Red that's your problem.

Don't forget wireless charging and sharing. One crappy thing I'm reading is the 5 is $200 more because of Verizon and it's 5g mmv. If not for that, Google might've charged $599 for the 5.
All that said, definitely getting the 4a 5g.

@@chrissmith2963 the Bose headphones for the first Pixel 4a 5G orders in November is a pretty good sale though! You can sell these on ebay for like £120 easy.
Don't forget about the Pixel 4a's 3140 mAh battery vs Pixel 4a 5G 3885 mAh battery.... Battery life is very important. The screen size difference (5.81" vs 6.2") is the #1 reason for me. It is pretty significant difference. I would pay an extra $150 for all the upgrades but I always wait for a sale for all my phones.

@@Pheckphul1 every phone performs like a phone, there’s not much to talk about there. The cameras however are far more impressive and are evolving at least more noticeably to the public and understandably so.
I plan to buy the Pixel 4a 5G as it's a big upgrade for me. Especially the Pixel phones now have bigger batteries than the previous models. I don't care for the 90 hertz display. I prefer the fingerprint scanner on the bottom than having an on screen fingerprint scanner on the display. I like watching Engadget's reviews and previews but Cherlynn is complaining too much that the phone isn't high end and would rather ditch this phone for the lesser ones that do less like having small batteries and or having weak camera's like Moto.
You kept saying that the 4a 5g is basically a larger version of it 4a. That is incorrect. It's essentially a larger version of the 5, but without water resistance or wireless charging. Its hardware (chipset and cameras) is the same as the 5, not the 4a.

You contradict yourself so many times in this review 😂 each phone is good for their prices. The 4a is obviously the best value. The 4a5G is the best if you want a bigger screen. And the 5 is best if you need wireless charging and 90hz.

Why do they take the telephoto away on cheaper models. And what couldn't the pixel 5 keep all three lenses. For $999.00 here in Australia I would expect 3 lenses. At least Samsung kept all 3 on the new s20 Fe

Pixel 4a 5G have better processor, 2gb more ram, bigger screen, 5G and more battery that Pixel 4a.
Pixel 5 is very poor, same processor (not 865), same cameras, speakers are horrible, not 120hrz (90 and 60 are similar) and usd 200 more expensive.
I will buy Pixel 4a 5G.
I dont need IP68 and wireless charging.
I went from a Samsung S9 plus to a 4A 5G and I'm honestly not liking the UI change at all. The phone itself is nice but I don't like the UI.

Isn't not being able to distinguish them a good sign? It means you're not giving up much on the cheaper models when it comes to form factor.

I'm torn between 4a and 4a5g.
I kinda like the smaller screen but the 5g battery is great and I love having an awesome battery. Maybe it's just worth dishing out more for more 'future proofing'. Could be the last good phone with a headphone jack by pixel.

I’ve had a low-end Samsung phone as my past 3 phones, keeping in mind that I switch roughly ever 3 years. I’ve had a number of issues and I want to switch, most-likely to something slightly more premium. iPhone SE or Pixel 4a 5G are my two main rivals at the minute. Which would you recommend?

i have the 5 and 4a 5g, the 90 mhz refresh is DRASTICALLY overrated. I am 47 so I am no spring chicken, and if i do not have them side-by-side I can't tell a difference at all.

Face recognition is beyond trash. I never use it and it should be phased out completely. And under glass finger print.

If you don't mind the bigger size then the S20fe 5g is the best choice. If you really want the stock software or are just a Google fanboy then go for the Pixel 5. S20fe 5g has: a faster processor, better video quality, better speakers, telephoto lens, bigger screen.

Does this have the Warm-Yellowish screen (when not in dark mode) ??
I returned my pix-4a for that reason. Sadly it didn't have settings for the Cooler /Warmer screen tones, as Samsung.

90Hz?...it doesn´t matter when you come from a 60Hz to another 60Hz phone imo.
It´s the decision of the buyers what matters. For every buyer there is a phone out there. The 4a 5G is pretty good for the price. Did I miss something? No.
Yeah I'm pretty sure upgrading from my pixel XL to a pixel 4s 5G will seem like a vast improvement lol. unless you're moving from a flagship that already had 90 Hertz I don't think anybody's really going to notice, and even then you might only notice it side by side or for a little while till your brain adjusts to the new speed. the main seller for me is this is a decent phone that actually still has a headphone jack since my work vehicle only has an auxiliary input I don't have Bluetooth option

If you're in the 4A 5G range get the 4a 5g or the a71 5G if you're in the pixel 5 range get the Samsung s20 Fe

more than $500 ? I'm sure you include taxes and the power brick when you review iDevices. Also, distortion correction on wide angle lenses is not some magic voodoo. If you don't know to use wide angle lenses, you will see distortions - that's just how wide angle lenses are, and not just on phones. Which is why, I'm often surprised people want wide angle instead of a telephoto lens.
Wish they had a symmetrical bezels with the 4a 5g.

These phones actually suck tho. People meme on Apple for not doing much to their new phones, but at least they’ve never downgraded the processor compared to the previous year. The 765G with no dedicated photo processing chip is not good compared to the 855 of last year, price drop or not
