Teoh's style is so cool. His first few lines always look like a haphazard and unskilled mess but then his finished pieces are so beautifully evocative. I wish I knew more about art.
Damn, I've had one of those Staedtler Mars Techno lead holders for years and I did not know that back cap was a sharpener. My life is changed now. :o
I didn't know that too for years until someone told me
I knew it was a sharpener but had no idea you could pull it out....
@@teohyc i just saw that the cap had a hole in it so i tried it as a sharpener it worked
Now I need a pencil collection
Laughing!
Your reviews are always so thorough! I always come to you when I want to learn everything about something new, or even just get more informed about something I already know. For example, who knew there was so much variation when it came to pencils? Excellent video!!!
I like to use and collect them😍
I find your videos to be both informative and entertaining. Since I don't use pencils very much it never occured to me that there were so many differences among them. I now have an appreciation for pencils in drawing. I love your videos. They are always the first I watch! Thank you.
Something to note about graphite pencils is that the Japanese pencils will be darker for a given rating compared to western pencils.
I just got out all my pencils and I am having fun swatching them thanks to you!
THIS IS A VERY EXCITING VIDEO TO ME!!!!!
Heard that
Bloody great vid Teoh, you have a new fan in me. Even having been an artist for the last 35 years, I still learnt something new...
Thanks. Check out my other art product reviews th-cam.com/play/PLucoL_7WoAgCezEi88D1I0KYmMJ6-khAl.html
I use a 0.3mm mechanical pencil with 2h lead. Because I like to use pencil to get the outline before I put pen and ink and watercolor. And 2h lead is easy to erase.
I use the light blue and pink uni colored lead for under drawing. I use a Koh I Noor 2 mm lead holder in 4B for sketching. Happy Holidays!
Can hardly wait for your next video on pencils and watercolour.
Coming very soon.
I love this video. It has helped me out with choosing pencils
Thanks for review, i use cretacolor nero for watercolor painting and it's the best :)
I love pencils, all kinds: graphite, color, watercolor... The graphite pencil I use most often is the FC Perfect Pencil which is kept in an Apple Pencil holder attached to my sketchbook.
Suprisingly, I have one of each category. The ones I use the most are regular pencils and mechanical pencils. I don't remember the last time I used grip pencils (only for figure drawings though)
Thank you - info I needed!
I'd like to see your pen collection
Nice pencil collection
I use mechanical pencils mostly but I also use normal pencil on occasion. Like you said, pencils have more line variation (which I kinda like better) but I prefer mechanical pencils because I'm too lazy to sharpen pencils. 😅
I use a cheap mechanical pencil and an hb pencil :")
Me tooo
I know that felling bro
Same
That's all you need
Same
I like the idea of a pencil and I have many that I have collected over the years. Of what I use them for, I can draw a good picture but don't practice enough. Did you know that pencils and erasers existed before the two were put together to form a brand new invention.
I use both mechanical and wooden pencils. A six-set Faber-Castell Goldfaber wooden pencil and four cheap mechanical pencils, loaded with 2B and HB leads. Man, I am thirsty enough to try that Staedtler Mars Techno pen that you have...
This post is older so you may not even see this, but if you do I have some recommendations for very dark leads. General's Layout Extra Black, General's Draughting (not a typo) pencil, and Faber-Castell Pitt Graphite Matt in 14 B. If you get this give them a try. You won't be disappointed
Nice video Teoh. Lately i'm using a retro pilot the shaker h1010 0.5 and i love it very much. With it i do 6 small framed sketches per page in a a5 sketchbook. Who cares right? hehe. Cheers!
Very informative video. Thank you! Question: What is the blue-silver body & red core one?
That's a Cretacolor Marino, Permanent Red Dark
i like Staedtler pencils because i like their wood smell. ^^
I have the Blackwing pearl and the Blackwing 602 grey
I love pencils.Drawing.Sketching and scented Pencils. I will buy Smencils very soon. Thanks very much for making this video.:-):-D
That's very good. how may I find those pencel
I have wooden graphite pencils that I am planning on using for Calligraphy
I always learn something new watching your videos, even with something mundane like... pencils.
Thanks 😁
I want to be your friend so that I can learn more about the types of pencil and how to use them
I have a cheap blue mechanical pencil,staedler 2b pencil,and a monggol 2 pencil
I'm curious about the lead holders: are they made in such a way so they can hold only one certain size lead or several? this "catching" mechanism - I was hoping it could squeeze the size 4 and 2, for example... I understand that very fat and and very thin can't go along in one squeezing mechanism... 4 and 3 are more likely?
I only know of 2 and 4mm lead holders. Not sure if there are another sizes. Before you get, find out how easy it is for you to get refills.
@@teohyc They actually go up to 5.6 mm, lots of fun for outlines and for shading large areas.
Wow, you really got so many range of pencils. That is a huge collection. I believe you don"t use so many? What do you do with those unuse pencils?
I use the once in a while. For mechanical pencils, I give the extras away.
Thank u so much
I use pilot croquis sketching pencils www.cultpens.com/i/q/PL00315/pilot-croquis-sketching-pencil-apcr4 or the clutch pencils that you call lead holders.
Hi teoh, what is the sharperner u using to achieve such sharp pencil?
If you use those manual sharpener you can get long sharp point. For portable one, get KUM long point sharpener
3:00 ha most of the time everyone uses pencils for drawing lines
2b or not 2 b🙂
I love when u do water soluble graphite :)
Which do you prefer? The 2mm Staedtler or the 2mm Kita-boshi?
I like the more technical design of Staedtler
@@teohyc okay well besides the technical design, the center gravity of both is different and so how you hold it is critical, do you still prefer the staedtler?
@@flat_foot9017 Staedtler feels heavier because of the metal grip. Kita-boshi is lighter and holding it feels like you're holding a wooden pencil.
Cretacolour Nero pencil it can be used as a watercolor
Huh?
@@teohyc you use water brush on graphite pencil... it's the same for cretacolour Nero
158 looks like charcoal
I need
I can't stop buying pencils even though I don't really use most of them. Help
Since I live in Germany I use the ones that are produced here and I can really recommend them :D
i only have 1 type of pencil, ikea stolen pencils
rOtring Rapid PRO Mechanical Pencils
Those are expensive. Good, but expensive.
Ya, definitely expensive. I got my first one from an elderly neighbor who was a pen collector. I have been useing that Mechenical pencils for 20 plus years now and have bought other one's too. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your informative videos.
Hola .... soy un nuevo seguidor pero me gustaría que tus vídeos tengan subtítulos en español por favor ✍🖐👏👏
