i think it's also nice to mention some psychology tricks with EQ. I know it was a basic video but here's for some intermediate guys.
you'll find (especially in a lot of dubstep/melodic dubstep), boosting around 3.5-8kHz a dB or 2, can help make your track seem 'louder'. why? around that area is a naturally 'annoying' (i prefer the term sensitive) range of frequencies to the human ear, apparently baby screams and cries are around that area. be careful though!! this is easily overdone because of how sensitive that frequency range is, and can make your track just sound piercing. but it can really help brighten up the track and give a super 'loud' master

Great video, Jonas! Everybody is talking about checking a mix on other speakers, in the car and so on. And recently I discovered that altough my mix sounds very clean on my gear it can sound too much in your face on airpods for example. So my point is that fat basslines and punchy drums are good and pretty, sometimes you can push it a little too much because earbuds tends to have narrow soundstage

  • @jrogofficial

Simple and transparent guide with very good info! I find "Unity gain monitoring" in the Invisible Limiter to be a very handy tool to objectively hear how much gain is too much. As an added bonus, once you dial the gain setting in, then turn the unity off, it will be a lot louder! 😀

I know this is an older video so hopefully my question is seen by someone with experience who can answer it. I'm learning mixing and mastering. Before going into the mastering stage do I export the mix to an mp3 (AAC, wave..) file and open into new project to begin mastering? It may sound like a silly question but I am new so details is key for me. I understand the process of mixing (meaning all about the balancing the different instruments, vocals, effects etc such as panning). Mastering is all about getting that full sound/widening, loudness, overall stereo sound for streaming/radio.Thanks in advance for answering my question.

I've been using online mastering services on all my tracks now and have found that the masters either come out too quite or loud and distorted. I've found this tutorial just so helpful as I really want to start mastering my own tracks but find mastering quite intimidating! But this video has really helped! As a producer who is just starting out mastering, what is a common fault beginners do (maybe from your own experience) which is easily avoidable?

First and foremost, thank you for a thorough mastering walk-trough.
    Q:
    - Would you recommend mastering with a multiband compressor, e.g. the compressor on Ozone iZotope 5?
    - Why didn't you normalize the track prior to the mastering?
    Cheers from Kristiansand!
Oh, and I have a country/folk/house-ish track I'd really want you to master🙌🙌🙌
