These last few moments are so incredibly beautiful, and hearing Liara say "I'll be with you every step of the way" just got me. Bioware did right with this DLC, and I am so incredibly happy that it exists.
Same here. I think it's because we expect our lovers to say those things. They say what's your supposed to say. Then you have joker. Just your friend, who in reality loves you every bit as much as your LI saying the same sort of thing. To me it seems more real. Like he really means it. He has your back
Thane's scene is the saddest. I couldn't believe it when Bioware killed him. No, wait, I couldn't believe _the way_ they killed him. I romanced him and I barely got to say goodbye. Then this scene popped up and it killed me. It hurt not having him there at the end, wishing me luck, encouraging me, and rushing head first into danger at my side.
I found his death scene beautiful, what bothered me was the lack of reaction from the crew. I mean, they lost Mordin, everyone spoke about it. They lost Legion, everyone spoke about it. They lost Thane who was their friend and companion just as much as the two other, and in some cases, he was also a love interest for their commander and friend (Liara spoke with her about their relationship, the characters reacted for it, so they clearly knew, that they had something), and no one says anything. This just killed the scene itself for me (at least the Citadel DLC made up for it a little)
That's what I love about it. Its honestly how death is. One moment you're there then you're not. And thane went out saving the galaxy. You can't ask for a more fitting ending for an assassin
@@awesomeman8385 I love how Thane was right, a terminally ill assassin stopped a super enhanced assassin from reaching his target. Leng weak as fuck and was SO SATISFYING gutting him. ghostsniper35 I think Jack does. They go through a lot emotionally in their romance. I mean Shepard basically helps her become an amazing person. They have this great dynamic.
@@AndarooPandrew17 I mean , Liara and Shepard are the 2 who save the galaxy. Liara brings Shepard back to life , which if she hadnt done , wouldve meant an end for the galaxy , and she also got the plans for the crucible. Technically she's the only squadmate who Shepard really couldn't have been without. You could argue Miranda was needed too , but even without her , someone else would've taken care of the Lazarus Project , but she's technically the 2nd most important as she avoids putting a chip on Shepard , someone else might've done it
I love how Liara is a little more honest than the rest and agrees with Shep that it might be the last one, but that she'll be there no matter how she sees it through.
haha to me that was what I did not like about Liara the others trust Shepard especially Garrus, Tali and Miranda I felt his most honest answers like "I trust you Shepard you will find a way to win you always do it" and if not you will do everything that you can.
It fits her character well. On ME1 If Shep tries to sugarcoat the danger, Liara is like... Don't give me that shit. And she's also the most aware that she could very well live to see the entire extinction because of her long lifespan.
Damn this series got so dark and serious from ME2 onwards. Half the DLC was just hanging out with the crew but the lighthearted feel and the actual humour made it so refreshing. I found the ending here to be more powerful than the actual ending, especially when you know Shepard isn't going to survive
I actually think that ME1 is FAR more serious than the ME2 and ME3 which is filled with marvel tier jokes and you have Vega, Garrus and others being for the sole purpose of cracking jokes. ME1 (especially the original one) is far darker and filled with horror elements.
First time playing the game: Me: Don't worry my love interest, I'll come back for you After seeing all the endings of the game: Me: WHYYYYYY!!!!! I have someone waiting for me! -sad for days-
You think that's bad? I romanced Tali and to hear her say "I have a home" the way she does id fucking depressing. then t the end I shot the starchild to see what happens dooming my cycle. Everyone died and I have to live with it
@@nelraak5233 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Holy shit... Well after you see the shitstorm that is the endings you may want to install the MEHEM, JAM or LIME ending mod, with the Citadel epilogue mod. :D
Ironically even though it is probably the saddest one in the video Thane's words are probably the best in the long run since you know . . . He's waiting for her across the sea
When I'm replying ME3 I just always finish my playthrough with completing The Citadel DLC right before final mission. And that's it. The best fucking Mass Effect ending.
I like that if you don't have a love interest, it's Joker who gets the exchange with Shepard. He's been here since the beginning and has probably served with Shepard the longest. He was piloting the Normandy back when you were Anderson's second in command, and he stuck by you when you worked with Cerberus. When you needed to escape Earth, it was Joker who pulled you out of the fire. Can't help but feel I always took him for granted.
*Me seeing characters from almost any other game I've ever played after awhile* Oh. Hey. So, I met someone new.. *Me seeing characters from Mass Effect after awhile* I MISS YOU SO MUCH! *starts singing "Baby come back."*
"...and i'll be right there with you" That's my girl. Liara saved my sheps life. Always had his back. And that little bit right there is why i'm glad I always stuck with her. At the end when I had to push her onto the Normandy and keep going, did so happily. Don't know if a person can fight for billions of people, but I fought for the few on that ship and for her.
Thanes was really good, but idk when Kaidan says "greatest challenge of my life, and the greatest reward" it makes me super emotional. I think it encompasses everything these guys have been feeling through there time on the normandy. or maybe i just like it because he was my first romance pick.
the one with thane aways kills me because of the end. BioWare should have made a special for the ones who romanced thane with us seeing him across the sea
Adrieline Silva Shepard only died if you choose not to use the crucible. Destroy ending shows Shepard breathing and in other two Shepard become basically immortal, one with the the catalyst.
This might sound screwed up but I was looking forward to dying. Thane died, Tali died, Garrus died, might as well both control the reapers to stop the cycle then go see my friends. I cried buckets during these games..
Either romance no one all the games or they have died. Honestly it's sad cause it's so rare to have intimate moments with joker. And I really like this one. I know Garrus is designed to be your ride or die but I think joker gets over looked. He's been with you every step of the way. Never questions you and is willing to do anything for you and the crew
Out of all of these, how is it that Local Cool Guy, Thane Krios, brings me to tears? Like, Tali's "I want more time" at the end put a lump in my throat but fuckin Thane put tears in my eyes. And I haven't even romanced him in this playthrough. (I call him a "Local Cool Guy" because his DLC outfit with the sunglasses looks baller as hell)
Watch this again every so often. Fall in love with this game all over again. Ending it this way, with such love and care from BioWare, makes me all the more excited for ME4.
Man it's amazing how a great story can change a person, you see, none of these characters exist beyond fiction, none of these characters are more the pixels in my screem, even so... always when i see this scene in whatever the match up is, i start tearing up all over my face, i remember every single mission from the other games, the words written in the dialogue are precise in hitting the feelings of someone who have seen it from the beguiningu, and i know, this is quote is not new to anyone... but... it was a fucking damn good ride.
Every time i heard "I´ll be waiting" or "You come back to me", I visualize the synthesis ending(the real ending for me) and Sheppard thinking "i´m sorry but i can´t comeback"
Destroy is my head canon ending. Before they're separated, Tali asks Shepard to come back to her. So, he has to come back. It's selfish, I'll admit. But they deserve a happy ending together.
@Phil Battiste a few months ago, I started my first tali romance run. I was intent on doing a different ending instead of Destroy, but when she dropped those words at the end. I realized it was a sin to not come back to her.
This moment breaks my heart, because its the send off for all the characters I invested in over the course of 3 games. male shep may have just said two words but his tone and face were 1000 words. This scene is how I'd like to remember the whole trilogy, such a beautiful game :) Lastly, FYI if yall ain't kill all the synthetics to keep your promise with tali then thats a big L xD perfect destroy ending is the only ending
Yeah, my favourites will always be Joker, Garrus, Tali and Dr Chakwas, those 4 were with Shepard through everything the galaxy and the reapers could throw at them, it's amazing what Bioware did giving us these fantastic characters.
My team was almost always Garrus and Tali. They're the only ones who are with you every step of the way. Which made it all the more gut-wrenching at the final push on Earth, leaving them behind so they can live.
Mass Effect and Witcher 3 stand as some of the most memorable games i have ever played and their emotional endings have haunted me to this day. ME3 - "We've had a good ride" - "The Best" *all your crew members shuffle back to Normandy behind you.* Witcher 3 - "We have witnessed - and, in fact, on several occasions - many great and weighty events. After all that toil, I believe we deserve a bit of rest." - "That we do" *Geralt stares straight at camera and player and smiles before it cuts to black* Makes me heart ache.
You know, this is the place where my game ends. I mean, yeah, it's also assault on Cerberus' base, taking Earth back and infamous starbrat, but hey! Citadel is the last DLC for ME3, it's the last place where it's still good, where we truly are rewarded for all 3 games we've walked through. Characters, romances, puns, references - it's all right here! I absolutely love this trilogy. I went through it with all DLCs nearly... fifty times I guess. And few times I ended it as the game requires - with colorful explosions and the Indoctrination Theory. But the rest of them - they all ended here. It was helluva ride. But it truly was the best.
Ash: I wouldn't have missed any of it for the world... Shepard: Well, there was that time I took us to the galactic core... oh, wait, you missed that one...
Thank for this beautiful segment. I always wanted to see very possible romance. The one that got me especially was Thane's ghost talking to Shepard. Thank you again.
I just finished the DLC... This was heavy. Knowing this was the last time i'd see any of these guys, the crew i've known for this entire series... I just hope Andromeda at least lives up to something.
after playing ME3 with JAM and CEM (plus CEM goodbye) installed, i don't think i could ever play the base game again, still though. even after all these years, it's been a good ride
Gotta say that this is the best Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC video since the combining endings of kind of way. Almost each person closing things off to a great series that one would be hard to match up. Even the music is one of the best closing songs that I have ever listened to in my life.
This is the saddest part of the whole game except for the ending with your death. to see your romance and them trying to comfort you about the war and you knowing you'll die. Even with the destroy ending, you're still pretty much as good as dead. It breaks you're heart to know that the only way to make the future safe for all is to let go and sacrifice yourself for the greater good. The only 'happy' ending here is with thane. You die and, "you go to the sea," with him.
The best part of this video - Ashley shows up exactly once. The rest of the time it’s Kaidan in the background. Also, i loved Joker’s scene. The micro expressions on his face are so good! He is such a great character
The "It's been a good ride" has so much more meaning when coming from Joker, Garrus or Tali, since they actually saw through, from start til end (Garrus and Joker moreso than Tali, since she came fairly late in 2 and 3)
Tali's works well as a Romance line, as does Garrus'. Though Garrus could get away with it even if you didn't need to romance him. Joker, on the other hand, has earned it in full. He can be kind of an ass, but he's always had Shepard's back.
If I had a week left to live... i'd replay these games one last time. They were there in my darkest hour and have been ever since. Some of my best gaming memories were spent with Mass Effect. It's been a damn good ride.
Aside from a ME2 romance with Miranda as broshep, I've never chosen anyone but Liara in the playthroughs I ended up keeping. I know that in doing so, I'll be missing a boatload of interactions and conversations, but... couldn't do it. I know a lot of people felt like she was thrusted down the throat by Bioware, but her chemistry with Jenshep was too real. (Thane's really did have me tearing up, as did breaking up with Miranda. Good God never thought she'd facecrack as hard as she did) ME4, pleasepleasepleasebringbackthecrewmateswecareaboutandmaybeletJacobdieinthemostpainfulway.
This truly is the real ending. And a metaphor for real life. After all, aren't we all shepards? Trying to lead our friends and family through the darkness and finding meaning along the way? :')
I know this is 10 years old by now but it still hits me so hard like how it did the first time all those years ago. I find it interesting that most of the LI’s said that they will be waiting for Shep while Liara is the only one who said that she’ll be by their side no matter what. I don’t know about yall but the moment that I enjoy quite a lot aside from the “the best” line is how Shep does a little jog to catch up to their crew. That little jog speaks so much of the camaraderie that Shep shares with the crew. In every playthrough, I always look forward to that little jog. It just sweetens the DLC that much more.
For me the truly heartbreaking part of this dlc comes when you land on earth and thank all the characters for being with you the whole time. Because to them, they all assume you’re going to survive, which that likely might not be the case depending on your ending decision. Other than citadel, you rarely get to “hangout” with anyone outside of the character development of the impending reaper invasion. And saying goodbye to all the characters you JUST hung out with, makes you sobbing, at least it did for me.
This dlc... this...dlc. I can't describe the overwheleming sense of grief and saddness that has washed over me. I didn't even reliaze thane's spiritual form next to shepard if its a rommance. His form like ther fun was ephmeral and we all knew that shepard was going to die in the end which was worst... but, he beat the odds...
The m/m romances are actually quite tragic. Cortez had just gotten over the death of his husband and then faces losing Shepard. Similarly, Kaidan already had to go through Shepard's death once and has to go through losing him again. (Spoilers) I do want to believe that after the destroy ending, Shepard sees his lover and friends again, and they all lived happily ever after. :)
Mickey Snow I know now we are supposed to be focused on a new Mass Effect now with new characters and new worlds, but I really hope there is at least a hint back to Shepard and the crew after the fight (that's if its sequel and not prequel i suppose!)

Then this scene popped up and it killed me. It hurt not having him there at the end, wishing me luck, encouraging me, and rushing head first into danger at my side.
That assassin should be embarassed. A terminally ill drell stopped him from reaching his target. :)
This just killed the scene itself for me (at least the Citadel DLC made up for it a little)
But yet you could keep Ashley the entire time if you want. It makes no sense.
Don't worry about Thane though, the Goddess Kalahira guided him to the land where the lover never leaves, the hungry never starve and where he'll wait by the shore.
I think that the only people who truly have the right to say "it's been a good ride" are Garrus, Tali, joker and Dr. Chakwas.
ghostsniper35 and liara fam. My girl was busy doing shadow broker shit but she did show up in ME2.
ghostsniper35 I think Jack does. They go through a lot emotionally in their romance. I mean Shepard basically helps her become an amazing person. They have this great dynamic.
Late as fuck reply but doesn't Adams also survive through all of it?
@@JazonCalderon Yes, but if you play this as an epilogue then no. :/
You could argue Miranda was needed too , but even without her , someone else would've taken care of the Lazarus Project , but she's technically the 2nd most important as she avoids putting a chip on Shepard , someone else might've done it
I literally JUST noticed the song that plays sounds like a more hopeful rendition of An End Once and For All.
@@k4den4perpetu4It fits both her character and background, other than Jvik, Liara is the one who truly understand how strong the repaers are
Damn this series got so dark and serious from ME2 onwards. Half the DLC was just hanging out with the crew but the lighthearted feel and the actual humour made it so refreshing. I found the ending here to be more powerful than the actual ending, especially when you know Shepard isn't going to survive
David McGinness
He can survive in Destroy Ending...
@@juanlaise1059 Or on MEHEM or JAM or LIME. If you pick them with the Citadel epilogue mod, it becomes awesome.
I actually think that ME1 is FAR more serious than the ME2 and ME3 which is filled with marvel tier jokes and you have Vega, Garrus and others being for the sole purpose of cracking jokes. ME1 (especially the original one) is far darker and filled with horror elements.
Knowing the ending makes this cutscenes 100x better
I keep coming back for Mark Meer's "the best".
"A great fight." Then go finish it. And know when your body goes to the sea... I will be waiting for you." Best lines ever. Made me cry.
First time playing the game:
Me: Don't worry my love interest, I'll come back for you
After seeing all the endings of the game:
Me: WHYYYYYY!!!!! I have someone waiting for me! -sad for days-
It's called destroy
Don't know if you know this, probably yes, but shepard survives if you choose destroy ending when having 5000 + EMS
I love Jack. She’s actually an amazing romance with paragon shep. Plus she has the same voice actress as the female protagonist for fallout 4.
*Me seeing characters from almost any other game I've ever played after awhile* Oh. Hey. So, I met someone new..
*Me seeing characters from Mass Effect after awhile* I MISS YOU SO MUCH! *starts singing "Baby come back."*
The best
It gets me every time.
The fact that "the best" was the last line they recorded hit me in the feels. Especially with how mark Meer says it.
The Thane one was especially poignant.
Thanes was really good, but idk when Kaidan says "greatest challenge of my life, and the greatest reward" it makes me super emotional. I think it encompasses everything these guys have been feeling through there time on the normandy. or maybe i just like it because he was my first romance pick.
dextro romances are the best.
I'll always remember tali, the sound of her voice will never be forgotten
the one with thane aways kills me because of the end. BioWare should have made a special for the ones who romanced thane with us seeing him across the sea
Adrieline Silva Shepard only died if you choose not to use the crucible. Destroy ending shows Shepard breathing and in other two Shepard become basically immortal, one with the the catalyst.
Graff_Zitel I know dude. I was not talking about Sheps, but my metaphorical death after seeing the end without thane.
This might sound screwed up but I was looking forward to dying. Thane died, Tali died, Garrus died, might as well both control the reapers to stop the cycle then go see my friends. I cried buckets during these games..
Male Shepards "The best" is hitting me hard every time😢
Hnnngghhh, the Thane one hit me right in the feels. Also, how do you get Joker? Do you get him if you don't romance anyone?
Either romance no one all the games or they have died. Honestly it's sad cause it's so rare to have intimate moments with joker. And I really like this one. I know Garrus is designed to be your ride or die but I think joker gets over looked. He's been with you every step of the way. Never questions you and is willing to do anything for you and the crew
@@awesomeman8385 Heck he walks into Cerberus on his own just with the promise they will bring you back
Out of all of these, how is it that Local Cool Guy, Thane Krios, brings me to tears? Like, Tali's "I want more time" at the end put a lump in my throat but fuckin Thane put tears in my eyes. And I haven't even romanced him in this playthrough.
(I call him a "Local Cool Guy" because his DLC outfit with the sunglasses looks baller as hell)
Fucking hell, I played this game so many times over the years.
And now years later, I am starting to cry.
I know right?
I cried at thanes part.
I hate it how worried male Shepard looks when he says "Probably the last one". He fucking knew.
Watch this again every so often. Fall in love with this game all over again. Ending it this way, with such love and care from BioWare, makes me all the more excited for ME4.
Jokes has the best mimics in this scene in my opinion. So human... so alive. As if that was a real living person
In a way, if you chose the synthesis ending, Shepard would be with his/her love interest forever... in a manner of speaking.
I KNOW! I cry just thinking about it! All of my peeps in all my Shepards waiting for me to come back......and I never do......
That's why we have mods :D
Destroy is my head canon ending. Before they're separated, Tali asks Shepard to come back to her. So, he has to come back. It's selfish, I'll admit. But they deserve a happy ending together.
@Phil Battiste a few months ago, I started my first tali romance run. I was intent on doing a different ending instead of Destroy, but when she dropped those words at the end. I realized it was a sin to not come back to her.
This moment breaks my heart, because its the send off for all the characters I invested in over the course of 3 games. male shep may have just said two words but his tone and face were 1000 words. This scene is how I'd like to remember the whole trilogy, such a beautiful game :)
Lastly, FYI if yall ain't kill all the synthetics to keep your promise with tali then thats a big L xD perfect destroy ending is the only ending
Hands down the best dlc for this series (with shadow broker close second). Jokers ending was the first one I did. makes me tear up.
This is the Mass Effect version of Geralt looking at the camera at the end of Blood and Wine
Mass Effect and Witcher 3 stand as some of the most memorable games i have ever played and their emotional endings have haunted me to this day.
ME3 - "We've had a good ride" - "The Best" *all your crew members shuffle back to Normandy behind you.*
Witcher 3 - "We have witnessed - and, in fact, on several occasions - many great and weighty events. After all that toil, I believe we deserve a bit of rest." - "That we do" *Geralt stares straight at camera and player and smiles before it cuts to black*
Makes me heart ache.
Jesus, 'the best' comes from liara's romance when she's playing the piano... So many more feelings if that's the route you take
I don't care what anyone says, this is how ME ended for me. Kind of like Angel's ending. Much better than the actual shitty ending.
This should've been the main game's ending alongside other alternate outcomes.
I love how everyone except Liara says: "I'll be waiting for you." while Liara says: "I'll be right there with you."
Since day 1!
Ash: I wouldn't have missed any of it for the world...
Shepard: Well, there was that time I took us to the galactic core... oh, wait, you missed that one...
It's a good thing Thane actually showed up in this scene.
Thank for this beautiful segment. I always wanted to see very possible romance. The one that got me especially was Thane's ghost talking to Shepard. Thank you again.
I always tear up when I see this scene :( best trilogy ever
The best scene ever in the entire history of video games
I just finished the DLC... This was heavy. Knowing this was the last time i'd see any of these guys, the crew i've known for this entire series... I just hope Andromeda at least lives up to something.
oof
I am....so, so sorry
thats rough buddy
Coming back to this always makes me cry. It really was the best ride
I teared up at Thane's, not even going to lie. It was beautifully well done.
Can someone explain to me why Thane has one of the best romances in the series?
They had to make up for how shitty Jacob's was, lol.
@@Ichigoku15 We don't speak of the betrayer.
after playing ME3 with JAM and CEM (plus CEM goodbye) installed, i don't think i could ever play the base game again, still though. even after all these years,
it's been a good ride
Gotta say that this is the best Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC video since the combining endings of kind of way. Almost each person closing things off to a great series that one would be hard to match up. Even the music is one of the best closing songs that I have ever listened to in my life.
It sounds like every single voice actor is holding back tears, it's beautiful yet somber, a wonderful send off to a fantastic franchise.
For me, its the way the LI looks at the ship, and says their "its been a good ride" line.
Yes it has, bioware.
Yes it has.
Miranda's eyes look weird as fuck looking at the Normandy at 4:41. Hahaha
Male Shep's "the best" is emotional as fuck AAAAAAA.
Bruh it's been how many years and I still can't keep myself from crying whenever I see Thane
These all make me want to cry. Ugh, shepard! It will be okay!
The mass effect series truly is the greatest game in existence
If I had a week left to live... i'd replay these games one last time. They were there in my darkest hour and have been ever since. Some of my best gaming memories were spent with Mass Effect. It's been a damn good ride.
Aww thank you so much! ♥
I love you. My heart can rest easily now
Jack what is my Shepard gonna do with you my tattooed short overpowered crazed biotic
Knowing thats really the last party for Shep, even now i want to cry after this damn good ride. The best actually.
Well, that makes me want to play these over again. Damn I wish Andromeda hadn't sucked so bad, maybe I should play it anyway.
I’m not crying you’re crying.
Male Shepherd’s “The best” is one of the most well delivered lines in video gaming history. Right next to Arthur Morgan’s “I’m afraid” in rdr2
How to describe the Citadel DLC: “The Best”
For me the truly heartbreaking part of this dlc comes when you land on earth and thank all the characters for being with you the whole time. Because to them, they all assume you’re going to survive, which that likely might not be the case depending on your ending decision.
Other than citadel, you rarely get to “hangout” with anyone outside of the character development of the impending reaper invasion.
And saying goodbye to all the characters you JUST hung out with, makes you sobbing, at least it did for me.
After all these years... still makes me emotional hearing maleshep saying "the best"...
Man, I'd love a print of the Normandy at Bay D24 like we see here.
This dlc...
Well, Ashley, Tali, Liara, and Garrus also had to go through Shep's death once too and then face it again after the Crucible
Ah, yes of course. I just remembered Kaidan on Horizon is all. Forgot about Ashley and the rest. Still, this game has just so many feels! Damn!
Mickey Snow I know now we are supposed to be focused on a new Mass Effect now with new characters and new worlds, but I really hope there is at least a hint back to Shepard and the crew after the fight (that's if its sequel and not prequel i suppose!)
