My favorite routine. I miss these days. No button pushing. Just highly technical talent. Seeing him switch records constantly instead of punching cue points is so much more engaging. Sorry new school.
I agree this is just classically amazing and talented and just so good and nostalgic to watch but to take away from the very talented djs and artists today isn’t very fair cuz it may not be the same kind of complicated but it’s also very complicated and technical and they’re also very talented individuals who make amazing music. 🔥

@@plasticprototypestmsince1968 have you ever considered that is not the technology to blame its person operating it, why is it craze can dope routines on digital but others make a mess? Maybe it's just because they suck and have no originality

Craze always brought the best openings/disses. Even if he didn’t always kill it (which he did) his charisma and sense of humor on the decks were enough to leave opponents floundering.
DJing, beat juggling, mixing and scratching is an art form that has no boundaries! Today’s technology allows the DJ to perform with the greatest of ease but, when I look back at a performance like this it reminds me of how it all got started, and the mind blowing skills someone had to have just to put on a performance like this, without the aid of today’s technology! This was absolutely magnificent!
I stole this tape off my brother and played it so much and now I have lost the tape but I will never forget this set. It is up there with something that no hiphop head will understand . Pure magnificent
I was there. Hammerstein Ballroom in the balcony. Illest set hands down. Watching the breaking circles from above was dope asf too. And Roc Raida was inducted into the hall of fame as Grandmaster too. Saw him at the Spider in NH. Miss those days. Miss seeing the Beat Junkies cuz Babu & Rhettmatic…whaaat? after watching this and Qbert and Shiftee , I sold the CDJ's and went vinyl and now practice everyday. It's fricken hard man but I wouldn't classify myself as a "good" dj till I learned to do these cuts without effort.

On the real, he should be getting royalty checks from these DJ companies because they’ve taken what he did in real time and engineering it into their products with the push of a button! This dude is the greatest, then Q Bert, then Roc Raida...
@ Darrell Russell..... YES SIR!!! Hell Yeah, I am with ya All The Way Live on ALL of that...... Except the Roc Raida part; IMO, I might have put Mix Master Mike there, But I am gonna go with, Rob Swift..... That Cat can Blow Doors off the Comp!!! It's a tough Call between those two, No Actually, Three Turntablist's...... Cause Roc Raida Definitely Deserves to be in this Conversation..... But The First Two Are Spot On, Like Gerri-Curl on an Uncovered Couch. CRAZE = THEE Master!! Q-Bert Is Also, Definitely a Master, Just NOT Thee Master. That Last One Though....... personal opinion, I guess. Well, It all is a matter of personal opinion. Stay Up!! Enjoy Your Everyday. L8.
What’s also worth noting is how resilient the design of the technics 1200 series turntables are to scratching and high performance tricks!!!! These djs have trusted these decks for decades.
What I love about this routine is the very beginning with Craze calling out all the dj's copying his style. The Michael Jordan of turntablelism. Out of all his performances I have to say the 1998 DMC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP is what really started it. He came equipped with an arsenal of tricks up his sleeves. It seems that he never makes mistakes. Took it to another level with his hand speed on the pitch and rpm. He's versatile with his left and right when it comes to scratching. His choice in records when he's dissing you to start the performance is on point. He's cocky but very very confident with the will and the determination to win. Like any talent he learned from the pioneers and took all the remedies and created his own style. He made made dj's nervous and wanna quit when he was on stage. The very best in my opinion THE 3 TIME DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPION "DJ CrAzE".
All is said! Yeah, using 1mn of the 6' set each year to spread the lesson (plus , winning each year, it takes all sense 😆), plus so much confidence and looks so easy for him, plus tricks that NOBODY DID , DO OR WILL DO during this 3 years of undebatable championship. Michael Jordan of turntablism , fosho fosho 🏆🏆🏆
The most incredible thing about Craze is not that he never makes mistakes, it is that any slight mistake he makes or any time the needle or deck lets him down he just freestyles over it, bodges it splendidly and makes it even better than it would have been. Unbelivable talent. Truly gifted plus endless hard work.
You know when he does the over the shoulder spin routine … watch the motor on off dial he turn the turntable on and off with the spin .. I think by accident though as the platter was off anyway so it didn’t make a difference but still the finesse and accuracy do smoothly do that is insane
Yeah. It was a happy accident (maybe) that was true skill and awareness. The bloke is beyond being a GOAT. Dmc fell off the rails a few years after he stood down.
Unbelievable, it’s the Melodies for me and what he does to the DNB at the end. Here in 2024, old raver and wanting to relive my rave days ( just the music lol).
He literally tears shit up the first 2 minutes, then hits you with that Q Bert record talkin bout “Now. Let’s. Start.” Like wtf???? That was just the intro?? 😂 then proceeds to tear it up even more

Arguably the best set ever. I still have all these on VHS. Craze is the best to ever do it. Cool humble guy too. I miss these days.
In my opinion the greatest battle set in history. 20 years later, and it’s still amazing.
Even the transitions were seamless.
20 years on and this would win the DMC this year and no one else would even come close. He's one gifted, dude.

Been watching this set for 20+ years and still don't get how he did that wave twisters breakdown. Just brilliant.

No Doubt This N A-Trak

That was the format with DMC, I think, everyone had five mins but the defending champ had an extra 1.30 to do an intro.
