Pistols were militarily a non-event in Rhodesia, as in every other war. They were essentially a civilian weapon carried by farmers on their lands in addition to a rifle and their wives on shopping trips into town until locally produced SMGs became available in numbers. I had a personal Browning and a captured Tokarev but I only carried the former because it was at bit of pain to carry a G3 everywhere on general A&Q duties. It was more symbolic of rank and I had no expectation of actually using it. I'd have to have screwed up pretty badly if I was reduced to having to use a pistol.

Nice pistols yet today! The 3rd gen S&W autos had mag safeties too.

The mamba started out as an excellent idea for a side arm, but unfortunately, a shyster got the contract for manufacturing, and he did not verify proper heat treatment so I as I recall only one mamba was produced. That was properly heat treated and functioned properly and that’s the one that was used in all the meetings and all the. Recruiting events

The S&W 659 (5906), 39 and 6906 also have magazine safeties. The BHP is, by far, a superior firearm!

659 and 5906 are not the same thing. Also, the 59 series is slightly superior to the Hi-Power since it has the DA/SA trigger and never gives you any hammer bite.

@@hoppinggnomethe4154 The 4 digit codes on the smiths indicated a slight upgrade to the 3 digit model. DA/SA triggers are fine, but I found that the HP was more accurate and slighly smoother than the smiths. Athough I hav shot a few Hps that had a very heavy and gritty trigger, but once it broke it was very accurate.

0:48 It's not an unusual design. It was common back in the days.
