The journalist is Michael Nicholson. He was a politics student at Leicester University and lived on North Avenue, then Springfield Rd. He had a succession of jeeps and weird vehicles and married a lovely local woman, Diana.
I knoew him and I was her parents' butcher boy.
The next time I ran into him was in Rhodesia when I was a sergeant in the Rhodesia Staff Corps.
I recently found out that he'd died too young.
    Super bloke, RIP Michael.

However it was unfair to the black population and there’s no doubt about that, but after the 70s, blacks were aloud free health care and education....it was changing.
The reason why blacks didn’t have the right to “vote” was due to them being too primitive with modern politics, which was very different to their tribal systems that had been used for generations upon generations. Ian Smith was exactly trying to stop Rhodesia being led by a inexperienced lunatic like Mugabe. There was great potential. Shame the commies had to ruin everything.

The Rhodies had it tougher than me, too - I went home from what they'd consider to be low-tempo deployments to my video games and studies, with money in my pocket and healthcare support from the DVA.
Most of them (especially the mobilised territorials and national servicemen) fought in incredibly shitty and dangerous conditions, were consciously aware the war wasn't going well in the last few years and that they'd inevitably be governed by former terrs, and don't even have the home they fought for anymore. Around 27% of the white population fled before the war was even over, and almost all RSF veterans live in places like the UK, Australia, and Canada now.
