I absolutely love how eclectic your channel is. Also, how you make even the hardest looking pattern easy for all. Thank you so much for helping me in my crochet journey.
Your videos are truly my favorites. I found you a few years ago doing a first time cloak ,now i watch yours for many ideas , as your fun , amazing and i love your family involved with your work, and craft videos......❤
My Auntie’s house was full of tatted doilies, but when she passed, my cousin threw every one of them away. To give you an idea of how heartbreaking that was, every flat surface in her home had a doily on it. No joke…. there were even doilies on her kitchen counter underneath the canisters and on the wide windowsills! Such a waste. 😞
Thank you! I needed a few little motifs to cover up some stains on a denim shirt. They used to be easy to find at every craft store, but Ms, Js and HL didnt have a single one!! Now I can make my own!!
I love making doilies with #10, #5, and #3 sized crochet thread. The largest one I've made was for a round breakfast table. It took a little while to make but the end result was so satisfying.

What an adorable pattern. Thank you. I have been studying patterns of old bed spreads and doilies from Ireland. So intricate and lovely. Thank you for sharing with me.
I made this. It turned out better than expected. I used 4 yarn and I hook. The more I look at it, the more the petals look like cupcakes. I really like it!

Doilies are my favorite thing to make. I’m currently making a royal blue doily for my brother’s wedding reception dessert table, in size 10 crochet thread. Hopefully I’ll get 2 done before the big day!! 🎉
@@JaydaInStitches it makes me want to make more and decorate them like little cupcakes with liners and a cherry on top. I just love all of your patterns!
I have made a doily with a pineapple motif, using a 2.5 mm hook and thread. I love it because it reminds me of something in my youth where I saw one. I invested in a lamp which has a magnifying glass in it. It's actually used to do soldering work on electronics. However, it's great when working small. For me, a soldering lamp made the job so much easier. The magnifying glass makes it look like working normal size and the bright light helps to illuminate the thread. So, I found working small really great! :)
Love this pattern 🤩. I made (& also love) the bigger version of your flower doily in variegated green and white cotton 😊. I use it for grabbing hot veggies usually, from the microwave. Or a bowl of ice cream 🍨😋. It's the perfect size. Gonna have to make some doilies of my crochet cotton 😁.
I’ve always been intimidated by doilies but you have made it very simple for me. I’m still a lil confused on the thread sizes. I know it’s different than worsted weights. Thank you Jayda!!
Hi Nana, Thank you for watching! Thread weight categories run opposite of Yarn weight categories. The larger a number in yarn, the larger/thicker the yarn. The larger the number in thread, the thinner the thread. So an 80 crochet thread is crazy thin, like sewing thread, but a 1 crochet thread is about the size as a size 1 yarn. 🌞

Yes please, joining lace doilies! I find tons of doilies I’d love to make, but most don’t provide joining. I’d love to learn hoe to figure out how to join ‘any’ doily if that’s possible That’s an adorable doily, thanks fo the tutorial. I never have too many coasters. I use them in my fridge underneath everything and not only keep the glass shelves clean, but they look so pretty in there!
My first introduction to crochet was with my grandma. (I'm 67, almost!) She was babysitting us rambunctious kids way back when I was about 10 to12.. She taught my sister and I how to chain. She left me with practicing my chains. She pulled out another ball of thread and started a doillie off the top of her head! I wanted to do that!! I think her patience level was pretty low with all of us kids. (We were brats, actually!! ...lol) She told me to keep practicing my chain. She never ended up teaching me more, though had I asked her when it was just me or even my sister, too, she might have continued on in lessons. I'm sure her mother and possibly grandma too, had taught her all she knew. She knew all the stitches and combinations to design a doillie! All were memorized! That fascinates me! I later learned on my own with magazines, mainly. I have since used many patterns and made many doilies over the past 50 some years. None off the top of my head like Grandma could!! ❤️
Our grandmothers and great grandmothers didn't have the luxury of magazines and the internet, I worry sometimes that our own brains might be losing out on something by not having to remember it all!!
@@JaydaInStitches also just a small suggestion... your tutorial is perfect but maybe next time use variegated thread in a tutorial so all the loops are different colors.. im still getting used to what they look like and counting them
I love making doilies. I’ve used size 10 thread or smaller, like sewing thread. The last doilies I made was pineapple doilies. I’ve been making them since I was 15 years old. I will need to get some cotton thread to make your doilies

Thanks for this tutorial Jayda I have some 10 thread for a doilie book I bought but I think I'll take your advice and try with a 3 first. I was thinking about using two 10s together, do you think that would work?
I have a question about enlarging an existing doily pattern. Is there a formula to use when you want to enlarge a pattern? Say, if I want to make the 6 inch into a 9 or 10 inch to cover a chair arm? Thanks!
Hi! Patterns all vary quite a bit, but when working in the round, many of them are based on a multiplier that keeps coming out over and over again when working successive rows. For example, this one has a base multiplier of 8. Many doilies use 6, 12 or variations of 8 & 16. You might be able to enlarge a doily by increasing the base circular rows for more rows (say there are 2 rows of basic circle-making, you could increase to 4 rows or 6 rows of base circle making) before you branch out into what makes the doily pattern unique and pretty. They trick is finding the base multiplier and building from there 😊
Hi Jayda, love your doily tutorial. Have you ever made a placemat with cotton yarn? I would love to try that. A round one is what I would love to make. Thanks. ❤

do you have tutorial for the adorable shawl you are wearing?
Yes! Linked in description 😊
Thanks for this tutorial Jayda I have some 10 thread for a doilie book I bought but I think I'll take your advice and try with a 3 first. I was thinking about using two 10s together, do you think that would work?
I find that when I double the 10 thread, it works as if it was a 3.

Thank you Luwanda
You're welcome dragonkat1868
Absolutely!
They trick is finding the base multiplier and building from there 😊
@@JaydaInStitches Thank you. That is very helpful.
Hi Jayda, love your doily tutorial. Have you ever made a placemat with cotton yarn? I would love to try that. A round one is what I would love to make. Thanks. ❤
Hi Johanna! It was lovely to see you in the chat today! I hope we can bring out our larger doily "placemat" tutorial soon 😊 In the mean time, here is the placemat doily pattern I was referring to: th-cam.com/video/gVRNV1VgowM/w-d-xo.html
@@JaydaInStitches thank you for the link. It was great seeing you guys again. ❤
My mother-in-law needs me to trim a dresser scarf for her that her sister that has basted had started. I have the scarf, thread ( thread yarn) and her sisters needles she used 😊
That's a nice project to finish!
