Quick recap:-
To divide and multiply integers, you can follow these steps:
1. Multiplying Integers:
- Multiply the numbers as you would with regular multiplication.
- If both numbers have the same sign (both positive or both negative), the result is positive.
- If the numbers have different signs (one positive and one negative), the result is negative.
Examples:
- (+5) * (+3) = +15
- (-4) * (-2) = +8
- (-6) * (+2) = -12
2. Dividing Integers:
- Divide the numbers as you would with regular division.
- If both numbers have the same sign (both positive or both negative), the result is positive.
- If the numbers have different signs (one positive and one negative), the result is negative.
Examples:
- (+12) / (+3) = +4
- (-15) / (-5) = +3
- (-20) / (+4) = -5
Remember these rules when multiplying and dividing integers:
- Positive * Positive = Positive
- Negative * Negative = Positive
- Positive * Negative = Negative
- Positive / Positive = Positive
- Negative / Negative = Positive
- Positive / Negative = Negative
Additionally, keep in mind that division by zero is undefined in mathematics, so it is important to avoid dividing by zero when working with integers or any other numbers.
By following these rules, you can effectively multiply and divide integers.
