John - very good test report. Thanks. On the video at 4:06 you show the USB lead with display showing volts and amps. Do you have a product reference for this lead?
There are two extra gauges that could prevent a lot of troubles - accurate voltage readout and fuel pressure for EFI engines. When there are problems brewing, these two measurements tend to decline slowly before you notice and then it's generally when there is failure. I'm also adding a remote fuel sender with wires to in dash gauge.
💥 Very nice video John. Thank you. I followed along the best I could and I’m wondering what the main differences are between the one on the left vs the right. OC 3.0 vs 5v 4.8A. I want to mount one on a flat area on my motorcycle fairing. They seem to be waterproof enough to handle rain with the cover snapped closed.
If you have a modern phone, I would defenately recommend the QC 3.0 chargers. They change to 9 volt output for fast charging if ouy have a phone that fast charges. You can see how it works here: th-cam.com/video/T3aDtQ3el10/w-d-xo.html
Hi John, I am trying to choose a USB charger for my off-road motorcycle and your reviews have been really helpful. The charger in this review appears to be one of the best but with all of them I would be concerned with rain getting into a USB port, especially a port with no cable plugged into it. I notice that the lids on chargers that have them do not close when the charger is in use. Is rain a concern with these so-called waterproof chargers? Could you recommend a charger that is the best in this regard? I am also thinking of sliding some kind of rubber sheath onto the cable that can be stretched over the charger once the cable is plugged in. Finally, do you think the chargers with inbuilt on-off switches would be as well protected from water damage when switched off as those wired via a remote power switch?
Hi there Martin. Thanks for the nice comment. I have to date not seen any USB chargers that are water proof, in the best case maybe rain proof. None of the USB's I have tested has any form for IP ratings. If you need it to be water proof, you will have put them in a water proof box, with IP rated glands. The best one in my opinion must be these which cover the whole front: th-cam.com/video/T3aDtQ3el10/w-d-xo.html
@@Italjohn I think I’ll just unplug my phone and close the lid if it starts to rain. It’s only a recreation bike so I’m not commuting daily in all conditions. BTW, I spent a fair bit of time in Norway 39 years ago. Magical country. I’ll never forget standing in a crowd waiting to go into a nightclub in Drammen. I have never seen so many beautiful girls.
Thanks for the detailed review! So it's not possible to read the voltage as long as a Phone is connected for charging? That makes completely no sense to me...
Hi John, I have a small question. When I turn on the ignition does the voltmeter come on automatically or do I have to turn it on with a button? Thank you very much and good luck
@@Italjohn awesome, i am looking for something weather-proof for a bike and i don't wanna be creating more waste by buying something that does not work cheers
These look great and being able to switch them off to avoid a parasitic drain is a winner. Cheers for this John 👍

@@Italjohn is an iPhone 11 Pro considered modern enough.??
I don't know, you will have to Google it and see if it supports quick change
Worth putting a dedicated cigarette lighter socket in the dash. Lots of extras here and the hole saws too!
I agree with you, so I have that as well 😀. I will recommend to use a step drill instead of a hole saw!

@@mortyoreilly be aware of that none is water proof without the lid on. So no water proofing during charging!

Hi Pavel. Good question. Just checked it, and it's black when you put the ignition on, you will have to turn it on each time.
@@Italjohn Thank you for answer. That's bad 🤔
@@pavelrichter9213 I totally agree. I have an other type, also with a switch. Same "problem" here as well.

Apakah ini charger yang terbaik buat di pasang di motor??? Mohon jawaban nya
It's not water proof, so I would have to say no.
@@Italjohn i'm from indonesia i like your explanation video
Thank you Nick ❤
are they waterproof? I want to put one on a motorcycle...can I powerwash my bike without everything exploding
I will not recomend you to power wash the usb, i will say it's splash proof, not water proof.
I wish you had reviewed some of those with USB-C
I will in the near future 😀

Would a 40w car charger be able to work at its best with a 11v output
I really don't know, but I don't think it will perform 100% with a so low voltage. I can do a test, and get back to you.
