The mini basket was great for washing pillows and stuffed animals. It was an interesting feature. I miss the old GE filter flows. They were powerful well built machines.
Actually they really weren't built the best and they had a lot more plastic inside than much of their competition did but still well built by today's standards and they actually wash the clothes
The pump doesn't exactly shut off. Actually the water level is just enough to fill the basket and the water flow slows down until the pump gets enough water back into it from the mini basket draining to be able to push water thru it again. Thank you all for watching and commenting! -Drew
OMG...I so miss this style of washing machine! Loved the mini basket & the Lint tray. Such a simple design & I think they had a switch to Add water if needed? Oh yeah & he's running the washer with the lid up!? What...that's just crazy? Like smoking on an airplane was a thing??
Thanks for commenting. The minibasket setting uses a miniscule amount of water so the pump would draw air until enough water drained out of the basket to allow pump flow again. Quite possibly, a water level adjustment would help the situation...
You're missing the lid to the mini-basket that sealed the basket and collected lint from the constant water flow into it. I used the mini-basket for rags, underwear etc. There was a mini-basket setting on mine so that only a nominal amount of water was used. I had my GE for 17yrs and it was used when I got it! It sold with the farm and was still going strong.
Seeing as this washer unlike other GEs had an unsealed basket (and therefore presumably used an enormous amount of water) this was a great idea to wash small loads. Seems almost worth it to use the mini basket all of the time, certainly for small items. Must have only used about 3.5 UK gallons of hot water. However this is still heavy on hot water compared to front loading tumble washers of course since these only dip the laundry in the water until completely wet unless set for higher level.
I bought a house that had this machine, but I never used the mini-basket during its whole week there (I already had a rather good machine). Does the "spray rinse" make it into the mini-basket?
Do you or anyone else know what year GE washers first stopped agitation when the lid was opened? I had neighbors who had a c.1969 washer that continued agitation with the open lid.

My mom had the 1969 version of this washer. We sometimes used the mini basket but most of the time, we didn't. We had the brown color washing machine. Good days!

awesome but i still like maytag neptune top load better. but its crazy that a washer around 30 years old is not just for normal loads of laundry. this also can save my water bill.

We have this washer. It’s 33 years old and the agitator has stopped spinning. 😟

This isn't so much meant for size, it's meant for things that are normally hand washed. It's supposed to be used with the gentle cycle

The agitator is fast, but the outer part barley shakes.
I am trying despirately to find a mini basket, if anyone has a leady on one, used from a dead machine or whatever I would LOVE to find one!
