Daniel Hellbach: Nocturne No. 4 in C sharp minor for piano solo

This is the 4th Nocturne from a series of 7 Nocturnes published by the Swiss composer and pianist Daniel Hellbach in 2020. Like many of Hellbach's compositions, who has come to the fore mainly through a wealth of useful and motivating teaching literature, the pieces move in a crossover area between classical and pop. In each of these lovely nocturnes has Hellbach tried to capture a different character and draw inspiration from other influences. The pop sound pervades all the pieces. Again and again, one hears echoes of Chopin and occasionally of Beethoven, as in the present Nocturne, whose cantabile nature and metric rigour are reminiscent of slow movements by Beethoven, for example in his sonatas. This Nocturne is the only one that bears a dedication. I hope the dedicatee agrees with my recording :-)
