"How to make supports". Fast forwards through everything and doesn't actually tell you anything about the supports or what the settings mean... Typical resin printing youtuber making a how to video that assumes you actually know this information and doesn't teach you anything.
Thanks for sharing your workflow! Just a comment: the model you are supporting has a lot of texture because of the clothes design. My advice is not to put supports for each tiny island. When it's an island that is few pixel widths on a few number layers (1-5) before it connects to a larger supported area, it's not worth adding a support as the support tips will be way bigger than the island you are trying to support. My 2 cents of course :) And the leveling bed part is just gold!!
Yea I didn’t support every island. It would make a big thick block if I did. But I prefer spreading the load over more supports than to use stronger supports.. I realised when I was done the video that I didn’t actually explain that part well but you have so hopefully people will read it!
1. That level the bed skit was spot on. 2. Lychee is awesome, been using the pro version for nearly a yr. 3. Another top quality upload, I love the content you make and if you don’t like that then f*** o**!
Did I hear that right, anything facing the screen won't print detail? That's interesting I'll have to watch out for this later when printing the rest of my model's of the power rangers!.
Lychee free cant support internal island, can it? I have tried but it doesnt show up. Chitu does but is came out weard, beeng abke tonsee the texture from the outside
Hi, your work is AMAZING. Could you make a video explaining how you work your piece once the supports are removed?, because in my case I always have yo sand or cover up little holes, I also see that the pieces you print fit perfectly and you can paint them separately, in my case I can't achieve that, I always have to glue the whole model together, fill the joints with some resing and cure with UV flashlught an then I can prepare the model for painting. It would be great if you can make a video. Once again, your work is AMAZING. Greetings from Argentina 😉
Just got into 3D printing and I gotta say joining the community this late is very beneficial as there are lots of resources out there and I was able to get a great start. Still a big learning curve in some respects. Mainly trouble shooting and test prints or failed prints but so far, a good run. Loved the video and you got one more sub but I gotta ask one thing.... did you level the bed!
just in time for my breakfast! this was just what i needed now that i have my bigger printer. i wasnt sure if i was under supporting and that seems to be the case looking at yours. im always sanding stretch marks. thanks bro!
Man I’ve had people tell me I use too many supports. And yea it does waste resin but one failed print at the scales we print at is more waste than the supports. Sacrifices must be made.
@@Groundeffected yeah i was using the parent feature for a while in lyche across all supports but then i just got more stretch. i think its great for miniatures but bigger models need full scaffold set up
Thanks for your tips, but can you share your resin settings (burn layer, exposure time, etc...) ? Of course if you prefer keep it secret, i understand... but i would be really angry but seriously thanks for all your video, great job
two questions: 1) does the Pro version detect internal islands (created after hollowing)? (updated** I saw that it does at the 5min mark on Doc Oct) 2) have you done a video on color matching and/or mixing colors? If not, it would be much appreciated! side note - this video made me stop what I was doing and join your Patreon. Keep up the great work and community contribution. It is very helpful!
Glad you found the answer lol. I haven’t done colour mixing video I don’t think. I mean I’ve mixed colours in videos but not done a video about it specifically. But since you’re a patreon link up your discord and ask any questions you want. There’s already some impressive artists in the group and I check it daily!
I haven't tried Lychee yet, I use Chitu. I have gone to simply using auto supports, then add a bunch on "internal" faces of the model which are just going to be glued onto another piece. I also like to absolutely riddle my prints with as big and as many holes as I possibly can in any place where they are hidden. As you said, it helps with the suction force, cleaning out the model, and saves some resin as well. Another great and informative video!
Nice to see a vid that isn't just about miniatures. I have a question, though: Is it normal for parts not to fit perfectly (1-2mm gap)? I've managed to get the gap below 1mm with a bit of sanding but I don't really want to print the other stuff then not be able to fit them
@@Groundeffected I doubt it, i'm at 1.6s. Model is from the star wars models patreon and I haven't seen anyone complaining about it so it should be fine. On a side note, does Wicked also use chitubox for the pre-supported models?

Chitubox kept crashing and doesn’t auto save. And lychee barely crashed and does auto save. Plus a few other benefits like the island detector etc. overall it’s more comfortable for me.
my input on this is that i constantly had issues with chitu crashing and errors with supports. at no point did i ever have a stable build of chitu and im working on a high end pc. lychee has been way cleaner experience and my models have come out much cleaner consistently.
Chitu has graphics card issues, especially with Nvidia graphics drivers, on a PC if you right click the icon, shortcut > compatibility > Change high DPI settings > High DPI settings, override high DPI...>System enhanced. This should fix that crahing issue.
So I’m sure you’ve had this question many times… how do you know when to use light, medium or heavy supports? I’ve only been doing resin printing since December and I’m still trying to figure that out.
I mostly use medium ( my own custom supports ) and sometimes use lights. But it comes with practise. Just keep working on your supports and they’ll get easier and easier
It's very true, lychee supports always fail for me. 😅 I've turned to using prusa slicer to do hollowing and suports now 90% of the time it works 100% of the time 😁
Personally, I just hollow my print, add holes, orientate my model then use the magic button with auto-orientation turned off to add supports instantly. Never had a problem with it.
Lychee is king for supports 💪 I tend to use branches if there's a bunch of islands in close proximity but using the parenting tool does a similar job too. P.s. Can't wait to see that spider woman sculpt painted!
@@Groundeffected I've been hanging fire even looking at printing it until I saw how that base comes out 😆 hoping you do an idiots guide for me to follow haha.
Great info as usual Brent, it's always good to see how other people approch the different aspects of our hobby. I'll give this method a try on my next model (strangley, I don't seem to get as many failures using auto supports and then adding to them as others seem to)
The problem I have with auto is that they put supports in weird places and sometimes damage the model. But man whatever works as long as there’s no fails that’s all that counts.
Hahaha, excellent video bruh!!! Yeah I been going back and forth with lychee and chitubox. I've been successful in both. My current problem now it lychee has decided to make some weird mesh like thing inside my hollowed model and I haven't figured out where to make it stop (wasn't doing it before).... lol, and I've found I haven't mastered the art of hole making (probably my fault). It shows holes but then I end up with Full model and drilling holes🐬.... leArnInG iS HaRd...😜🐬🐬
You maybe added the infill option? But if you don’t have pro I don’t think you can hollow like I showed here. Honestly I’m not sure if that’s a thing between the free version and the pro version. As for the holes maybe you didn’t have them deep enough? Keep trying though lychee wipes the floor with chitu so I am really glad i found it back when I did.
@@Groundeffected the holes were definitely not deep enough...lol. I had just gotten to used to the chitu hole maker the let's you physically see you made a hole not just a dark puck on the model.
