My grandmother passed away in 1988 but she had a stove like this. The clock didn't work because more often than not the heat from the oven dries the factory oil . probably within ten years of the manufacturing of the stove. I would love to rent a store within a old stripe mall'. I would love starting my own collection. I run into your videos and enjoy watching them thank you for posting 👍
Very cute little range! I've never seen one like that love the 38 inch size way better than the standard 30 of today congratulations on the find its in great condition 😊
Hello from the cool tropical mountains of Puerto Rico! I really enjoy your videos! Your Westinghouse Rancho is just cute! I can’t wait to hear if it is in good working condition. Just wanted to mention the Betty Furness 1951 commercial featuring the Westinghouse Rancho. Betty even sits on the stool! 😂 Hopefully you’ll find the matching stool to complete your Rancho set! Thanks again for bringing such fun to TH-cam & stirring the beautiful memories from so long ago! Philip
Hi Philip! So great to hear from Puerto Rico!! Thank you and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I saw the video with Betty Furness and I'd love to find one of those stools some day! Thanks!
A very cool little range. A few years ago, saw some vintage photos of some very early Levittown homes and some of them had a similar style stove put in when built. I've been fortunate that I never had the 20" apartment style stoves, but the 24" variants can take a half sheet pan just fine. The oldest one I had was an old Sunray gas stove from the 50's, and I forget what brand/model, but an electric one where using it, everything got hot, even the knobs and was electric. Both 24" 4 burner models. I cooked many a meal on those types of stoves over the years and currently cook on an electric radiant glass top GE from 2009. A basic range at that, standard 30" and came with my old house. I've cooked many a meal on that since 2016 when I bought the place.
Hi John - I think this stove was designed for the new ranch homes they were building by the millions across the country after WWII. These homes often had small kitchens. This was why the home builders asked the appliance manufacturers to make a range smaller than the standard 40-inch model and Frigidaire came out with a 30-inch. Thanks!
Turkeys must have been a lot smaller back then 😂. I love the idea of a side area that you can use for prep. I've lived in some (including now) houses with practically no counter space, which is so much fun on holidays. The outlet would be a problem, I agree
Hi Lisa! You're not going to get a 25 pound turkey in this one! LOL! I guess for a smaller family this would work, but if you cooked a lot for a large family, this wasn't the stove for you. Thanks!
I’ll add my interest in seeing your fascinating collection, not just stoves, but all categories of vintage I see in the background. Are you a retail store or a collector? This is the first of your videos I’ve seen. I believe vintage kitchen appliances and housewares are so much better made and stylish. I would love a virtual tour of your store/collection!
Hi Kathleen! I'm a collector - no retail. If you look through my videos you will see many tours and overviews of different parts of the collection. Thanks!
Enjoyed seeing your new addition hopefully you will show more of your appliances in the near future .I love seeing everything you have agguired maybe you can just give us another look at what you already have .I never get bored watching you display your collection !!
Very interesting range. I've never seen one like it. I always liked the 40' ones with the work space on the side. Another feature I always liked was the ones from the 30's and 40's that had the fold up covers for the burners.
Hi Kevin. So glad to hear you are still adding to your collection. I was thinking has he stopped at this point? How much longer can I collect? The answer apparently is until someone stops me. Great new range. A unique design. I can’t help but imagine that was in an efficiency apartment and how many newlywed wives learned to cook using it. My parents still talk about their first apartment as newlyweds and that the stove had such poor insulation it melted my mom‘s bathrobe. My dad said it was on furniture legs it was so old. I think he means those early electric stoves on tall curved metal legs. He also remembered that you could boil water on the stove top putting the pot near the element that was on because the whole top of the stove got hot.
Hi John! Yes, still collecting like you! LOL! As long as I have room for it, I'll add a new piece when I see something special, like this Westinghouse. That early stove of your parents sounds like many of the older ranges. No insulation and made of materials that radiated heat! I've got a stove that is like that - it's almost a hazard it gets so hot on the outside. Over time, the industry found ways to decrease the release of heat through the range, which also made it much more efficient. Thanks!
This is a totally unique stove I hadn't seen or heard of before, so thanks for the video. Westinghouse should've nixed the outlet and provided an oven light. Or you could use the outlet and plug in a gooseneck lamp to shine into the oven. So much for "you can be sure if it's Westinghouse." One can only hope there was a 40" opening in the kitchen leaving an inch gap on both sides, because finding another 38" stove would be almost impossible.
Hi Jonathan! Yes, I would have put the outlet in another location. I've seen a number of photos where this range was not placed in between cabinets and counters, but almost stood alone. If you were replacing a 40 inch stove this would certainly fit in the space with room to spare. It is an odd size. Thanks!
Love seeing all the appliances. I have few in my collection and still use them (they built things to last then). I am amazed at the pristine condition that you fine them in.
Thanks, Michael! They really were built well. I don't always find them in good clean condition, but sometimes I get lucky and they don't require a lot of cleaning. Other times it takes me hours to get them looking decent. Thanks!
The evolution is always interesting. The 1950 Rancho had the stove burners above the drawer on the right, with the controls on back panel on/above oven.
Hi PLK - you wonder why they changed the design so many times over the years. There must have been reasons - maybe manufacturing costs or research. Thanks
Very interesting range. I've never seen a model like this. Since you said it was only manufactured for a few years, I guessing there was demand for this model. Maybe it was for small apartments in which kitchens had very little counter space but needed 4 burners. Whatever reason for this model, I enjoy seeing all appliances from our past. Thanks.
What an amazing find! The desk-like aesthetic struck me immediately. I am so grateful to find a collector else who values vintage electric stoves. Vintage gas stoves can certainly be beautiful, but, as someone who's lived in southern California for over 40 yrs and antique-shopped three of those decades, you just don't see vintage electric stoves for sale. I would pay admission to tour your magnificent museum.
Thank you, Cryan! It seems that gas stoves were more popular out west. Here in Michigan, I see more vintage electric stoves than gas stoves. But some of the vintage gas stoves are really beautiful! Thanks!
Nice find! I've seen a commercial on YT with Betty Furness promoting the Rancho range but haven't seen it in real life before. Would also love to know more about the radio that's sitting beside it.
Hi Harley! I've seen that video, too - fun to watch! That is an Ironrite rotary ironer next to the stove. It kind of looks like a big speaker, but that's just the design of the cover for the ironer. Thanks!
Howdy and hello, That is a very nice range to be sure. But I have something I came across in a antique store and that is a rare 1922 Wilwear apartment oven and I still have not turned it on yet. But I am getting around to it very soon. Right now I just picked up a 1920's Star toaster and it works great. And it is not a pop up toaster but in toaster collector language is called a swinger.
So I have to mention and comment on something I can't believe you have not brought up before. Chambers ovens and stoves. I believe these were the gold standard for ovens and do not know when or why these disappeared. My husband and I had looked at a house with a 60's era Chambers stove in it and while we didn't buy the house I sure wanted that stove/oven.

You mentioned finding this in a garage, I was wondering how you locate these rare pieces? I assume that the support apparatus underneath on the right side was just that, a support leg? Thanks for sharing😀👍. PS. . . love the sound of squeaky old wooden floors👏
Hi Diana! Yes, on the right side is a chrome leg. I come across these things all over. I've always got an eye out! I like the creaky floors, too! Sometimes they creak even when no one is walking on them!!
Do you have one of the ranges used on the set of Bewitched? I always thought it was very unique. Maybe for the upper middle class during the 60's. I'd love to see a video on that one!
@@lornamay2307 Hi, i just rewatched the range room tour video and its not included. But look for another video named Frigidaire Flair...and there it is.
Very interesting design. I suppose having the little space underneath allowed Westinghouse to be able to sell a wide range with a nice workspace for a bargain price. A question crossed my mind as I was watching this video. When you are in the Cavalcade and not shooting a video do you turn all the lights on, ceiling lights and table lamps on top of the racks, or do you just light up the area you are working in? It does look very nice all lit up on video but I think it would cause an unnecessarily large electric bill doing it all the time.
Hi tallboyyyy - this was an "economy" model for sure. I'm at the Cavalcade every day and most of the time I'm not shooting a video. When I'm just there working, I only have the lamps on (there are more than two dozen lamps throughout the space) and they all have LED bulbs in them, so very efficient. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer! Yes, there is a place in Georgia, Antique Appliances, that completely rebuilds vintage appliances and sell them. Everything is new, wiring, etc. They are not inexpensive, but they do beautiful work. If you Google them it will come up. Thanks!
Maybe you know something I don’t but I think the stools they show in the ads are Z stools by the former Troy Sunshade Company of Troy OH. I bet you they’re still around the midwest
Hi Reminisciences - it could be the stools were from Troy Sunshade Company. The ranges were made in Mansfield, Ohio. It would have been easier for Westinghouse to outsource the stools rather than make them. They were also quite short so they could tuck in underneath. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood do you know if maybe there was a separate option to purchase a matching counter to go on the side with the outlet? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
@@cavalcadeoffood okay, that makes sense! The cart could be moved to the outlet side of the range and slid away when not in use! Allows for more workspace without it being permanent.
Interesting stove, but it does not get my heart beating with disire like most vintage stoves you have shown. Have a feeling both were designed for childless people in apartments.
