Thanks for another awesome video. I’m currently growing Claire Austin and Earth Angel up obelisks. Crown Princess Margarita arrives in the spring. And, I’m growing Eden up a fence. All are in large containers and doing very well so far… 🤗 🙏🏽 😊

I purchased 2 Roald Dahl rose standards last april started blooming in a month or so and , last night was freezing , blooms still intact on rose. What a marvelous company.

Ben, super informative. I watched this video as wanted to plant 2 climbers either side of patio windows in tubs. Cannot go into the ground unfortunately. Was hoping to plant Old Wollerton Hall roses, but concerned after watching your videos. Any other ideas? Space is roughly 3-4 ft wide and plenty of height up the house wall. South West facing.
I love your videos! I got so inspired and I now have 8 David Austin roses…I went from 0 roses to 8😂 what are the David Austin climbers that you would recommend for part shade? So far I have three roses that are getting about 3hrs of sun (a bit of morning, midday, and just before sun down) do you think they’ll be ok ?

Hi Ben! Thank you for all the hard work you put into educating us.
I'm trying to find a baby pink climber, 8ft+... preferably 10-12, that can handle our 100° + summers, and smashing downpours. Its going on a pergola, so it will have some shade in the afternoon. I'm currently looking at Wedgewood and James Gallway. I got told the JG will only flower at the top, leaving just stems and thorns at the bottom.... And that wedgewood has problems with bleaching out and/or very short vase life. What do you think is my best pick for this space?
Hi, and thank you for your comment. I’m glad that you enjoy the content created James Galway if you care to take a look at my personal review along with its sister Rose, the pilgrim one of the few that have the ability to flower ground to tip creating beautiful pillar displays, the Wedgewood rose is incredibly susceptible to some bleaching and to balling so if it is likely that you are going to have lots of heavy summer showers, this is probably a road for you to avoid and I think that James Galway would be a much better option for you although here in the UK we don’t experience temperature anywhere near that high
Thanks for the vid, Ben. Found it very very helpful. My "lady of shallot" climber was growing inside a obelisk. I don't think it was happy as it started getting powdery mildew due to its branches being crammed in and lacking air circulation :(
That can be an issue yes and is down to pruning and making sure that you’re still removing the growth in the centre of the plant and other canes are there in spiralled around your obelisk

I want to plant a white one in my white garden it will run a cross a old fence in back it will get about 5 hours of sun which one would you recomand

It’s well worth growing yes if you see it buy it in my opinion. No it is not worth buying rooted cuttings. This is obviously heavily discouraged by David Austin as well.

I’m new to rose gardening and fear I’ve planted my climbing roses too close to my house. They have already woken up and are growing well, and I fear moving them will do lots of damage. Should I dig them up and relocate them before they get too big?

Hello Ben, I'm in zone 6 southern illinois, USA. I am new to roses ,so I built an arbor in direct sun roughly 6'x7'6" I have 1 the pilgrim on the east and 1 teasing georgia on the west ,I ordered 1 Charlotte and 1 golden Celebration roses to put around the arbor ,could you please insight me on where I should plant my shrubs for the best blend and orientation .this is an arched arbor, I appreciate your knowledge and time .
These are all planted in the ground ,or will be once I figure out where they should go

Thank you for your comment. It was supposed to be reviewed by myself in 2022 but failed to flower at all. Is back on the list for June 2023,
I have a Wollerton Old Hall that I was planning to train around an obelisk. Will this be alright or is she too big for such a small structure?
Hey as long as you spiral it around the obelisk, bringing the stems as close to horizontal as possible it will be fine you’ll need at least an 8 foot one
Hello, what would you recommend growing for an East facing house wall? Will be planted in a 2.4m wooden planter, and has 2m high wooden trellis to grow up (horizontal slats). Any help or recommendations would be welcome. Thank you.

Hi Ben is there any benefit in planting a Poet’s Wife inside an Obelisk if not tying in? Also would it do well in a pot of around 45-50cm wide? Thanks 🙏
You could certainly try it with an obelisk. Yes, as I mention in my full personal review which is available to watch here it is a large informal floppy shrub not helped particularly by the size of the balloons which are massive. It can run 5 to 6 feet so just make sure that pot is big enough I will look out for those thorns she’s very spiky

I’ve got a laylandii hedge which is about 15 feet tall and 50 ft of the boundary of my garden. I hate it but can’t cut it down. Can I grow a rose up and along it? It gets about 4-6 hours of sun but only in the height of summer
It’s not really possible no the rose will ether be swamped or trimmed if the hedge is maintained

I’m looking to order Gertrude Jekyll for the spring. Someone told me it’s not a very good repeat bloomer and that I will be disappointed. I really want a small to medium pink climber that is super fragrant. I don’t think Generous Gardner is a strong enough pink for the situation. Do you think kiss me Kate is preferable to Gertrude? Would love your comment.
I think that the fragrance on GJ is unrivalled it has one large flush abs then a smattering of blooms From then on I’m not familiar with kiss me kate

regarding the pot size for climber, do mean inch or cm?
In this particular video, the measurements mentioned are in inches, not in centimetres so if you’re looking to grow a climber Apple wall that’s going to reach between 10 and 12 feet you’re going to need a container that’s at least 120 cm or 48 inches in diameter
Have you done a video about pruning climbing roses yet ?
They were done as live events in January. Is there any advice that I can give you if you’ve missed them?
@@the_gardenerben aghhh fitted I missed them. Am I correct in thinking new climbers (as in planted last year and this year) will need minimal pruning.

It can be done yes but you must chose carefully or one could easily take over the other

Ben - Not a climber I know but just wondered if you had ever grown Rambling Rosie? I have one planted in the ground - it is supposed to repeat flower but mine only seems to produce one flush of flowers - any ideas? It's fed and watered regularly. Thanks.
Hi I have had rambling rose it’s not officially an Austin it was bred by Horner in 2005 I found it weak and that it didn’t really perform very well, so when we left our last house five years ago I left behind
