Proud to say I am this man's next door neighbor! I've spoken to him many times and have had the privilege of being inside of his shop full of hotwheels it's truly amazing, he has even let me keep a few over the years!
It’s really not about the collection at all. I’m 56 now with 3 grandchildren and a toy collection size is not my focus anymore Lol This Gentleman has the same mindset as I do now. Our Little Blessings our OUR World ❤️
As a collector in my 30's I can tell you it's not that difficult. If your only goal is chasing HVT's (high value targets) in dead mint condition, then yeah you might never make it. I collect a bit of everything from all brands and all conditions. I will go to the store and pick up new cars, or go on eBay and buy some old ones. I love buying in bulk just old boxes of cars from someone's crawlspace, both carded cars and loose and played with. No matter to me. I've got cars from brands you likely never heard of in 45 years, and I didn't pay not more than 50 cents for them or less. I get the cars however I get them and then I can always upgrade it to a nicer condition model later when I can afford it. $30 for a box of 150 junky old cars thrown in a old cardboard box and I'm happy for weeks.
My mother started buying hot wheels cars cars for me in 1968 also every time one was released she bought it for me lve been hooked on them every since. When I went away to college she threw them away with boxes of comics . Talk about heart break . I never got back into collecting them it's way too expensive for the red lines from my era . My mother called me over to her house about 4 years ago she said she had something for me. When I got there she had one of my red line hot wheels car it was the Red Baron the silver was rubbed off the helmet it's been well played with. I keep it in front of my big screen tv . My mother said she doesn't know how that one didn't get thrown away. I've had a lot of offers to buy it I haven't sold it yet it brings back a lot of good memories. Your collection is awesome I enjoyed looking at it.
Thank you. Great interview. I am Canadian near Toronto but have always had an affinity for Texas and Hot Wheels! I wore out the record "The Yellow Rose of Texas" my parents had playing it over and over! Thanks again. It is Canadian thanksgiving today, so when the American thanksgiving rolls around, have a GREAT one!
I had my childhood Hot Wheels collection in a carry case with the badges. In a financial pinch when raising 2 sons on my own I was forced to sell them and an antique train set. After we recovered I bought my sons a HO scale train set and then began helping them collect Hot Wheels. They are in their late 30's now and still have theirs.
I've been collecting HotWheels since 1995 and still get excited finding new ones in the store or old ones at flea markets. If you can't afford the real car, at least you can get the HotWheels version!!
the generations previous to the current one, are those who had the most fun, who grew up in the best possible way... Who have tasted what the word "game" means. Thus also learning to love cars, engines, to create passion... Congratulations for your love and for your incredible collection! Greetings from Rome, Italy!
Congrats on being able to appear in this cool segment! 25,000 pieces, sounds about right =P I'm glad to see that you give them some track time! That's really awesome that you have your childhood cars. Mine got handed down to my younger brothers and then down to the nephews.
People make fun of these guys... but they're historians really, and almost everyone who will see a collection like this 50 years in the future will smile, is my guess. Good on him for having the money, space and courage to save that bit of our collective history, hope that when he, and others like him, go, people will give these collections the respect they deserve. If I had more money and space I'd do the same, right not I'm sitting around 1000... good on yah Carl!
I can associate with you. My beloved mother was the one who got me started. My first Diecast was a Matchbox VW Bus in a mint green that she got for me from a hospital pharmacy when I was having my tonsils removed. She then worked for Matchbox in Carlsbad N.J. and my Matchbox collection exploded. Then like you in 1968 I got my first Hot Wheels from Kreskgefor 58 cents. I was hooked and never bought another Matchbox.
Cos' many of us collectors hate model tampering / fake making, and unfortunately for this guy it's what they're showing at the very beginning of this video.
Its great seeing a lifelong collector with how they display their collection, especially in that double wide garage! Im starting to get back into hotwheels too, especially since my lifelong pokemon hobby is marginally cheaper but just as noustalgic to collect and play around with, i even got that same Midnight Blue Ford GT thats right behind the white one/blue stripes at 0:57 what a great collection!
That's awesome. This guy gets it. It's about fun and creating memories. I can't believe 30 people thumb down this video. That's 30 miserable asswipes with no heart or soul. What a world. 🤔
I collect anything. Some Micro Machines to the big vintage Tonka trucks. Hotwheels, Matchbox, Tonics, yatming, Structo, etc. I display them like, Camaros in one area, Corvettes in another. Military, cans, Volkswagen, Redlines, Dukes of Hazzard, Porsche. At last count, I have over 4000.
