this is an incredible video. We are going in april, and now I am worried about how cold it will be. layers will matter! Question - what is the tipping expectation?
Wow! Thanks so much for this Jess and Dave. I have an opportunity to take this trek Sept. '25 and I've been reluctant to commit for lack of confidence. This was SO real and meaningful. Because of your video, I've decided to take the challenge. I can do this! Thanks again.
Thanks so much! We went for 3-5km walks nearly every evening for a few months before the hike. Not speed walking, but a decent pace. We also lived on the 12th floor, so we would take the stairs up a few days a week. It would have been a good idea to take them down too, as there’s just as much downhill as there is up on the trail, and I (Jess) struggled with that. ☺️
Did you guys have any sort of training prior to the hike? Or were you guys initially fit? Like most people, planning to do it but doubting about the level of fitness.
We were definitely not initially fit, nor were we in the best shape for the hike.😅 We went for 3-5km walks nearly every evening for a few months before the hike. Not speed walking, but a decent pace. I would recommend some sort of prep for the hike, but you also just need to be in the mindset to take it slow and not worry about being the last one rolling into camp in the evening. A few people in our group really struggled and the guides had them up a couple hours before the rest of us so they could have more time to hike and not feel rushed.
Tents and the bag you fill for the porters to carry are included. You can pay to rent sleeping bags (25USD), air mattresses (20USD) and hiking poles or you can bring your own. You need to bring your own day pack and water bottle. Let me know if you have any other questions about specific items you need:)
Our backpacks that we used are unfortunately discontinued by Northface. I think they are 50L and most people don’t bring a pack this large as your porter will carry most of your gear. We brought ours because we were living out of them and had a bit more gear than most. The style of bag is an ultralight using Dyneema fabric. There are a couple companies making this style of bag but they do tend to be pretty expensive as they are a niche item. For checking bags, we did have to check our bags when entering MP. They have a booth and it’s a small fee. For the entire hike though, no limits, no checks.

curious about the backpacks used, trying to find something similar. Did anyone check the size of them when entering? :)

@ Thanks for the answer! Great video by the way :)
Hey, I'm a little afraid of heights, do you think I can make it? I generally hike in the mountains, but sometimes it shows up due to the exposure.
I don’t think you’ll have any trouble. There aren’t any sections that I can remember that made me nervous.
AM-AZING!
