Thanks for your thoughts. GH6 is THE camera for me. To me the colors out of box beats anything I have shot prior. I also own the older G9 and it is an excellent camera but image had to be manipulated a bit to make it look decent. I know the G9 II is much better than the older version but any upgrade on my end will be another GH6 or the S5IIX. Blessings.

I’m torn as I don’t want the size and weight of a FF but am suffering from FF FOMO. I think my next camera will be the G9II to add to my G9.

@@Democratiser I get it.. decisions can be difficult.,. I’m now trying to invest in more lighting and modifiers moving forward. All these sensors and mounts are incredible as it is… I think framing, lighting, composition are probably the best investments after you find the camera you enjoy.

@@scottmorgason I think you are right. I have a 5D III to cover off on the FF stills front (and Magic Lantern if one has the patience). But I took the G9 on an overseas holidays last month and it performed very well.
The weight difference is massive. With the 5D, I always felt compelled to bring a 70-200mm IS F2.8L (1570g) to get some reach. With a 1.4TC that gave me 280mm. This time I took all my MFT lenses which I have acquired to deliver a ‘small and light’ objective:
      - Panasonic 14-140mm at 265g
      - Olympic 75-300mm at 423g (I should have taken and used a tripod for this one)
      - 25mm f1.4 at 335
      - 15mm 1.7 at 115g
      - 10mm MF at 120g.
So that is about 1258g of glass, or 80% of the weight of the 70-200 alone! Add a G9 or G9II and the core kit is about 2kg. So portable.
But regardless, I am suffering from FF FOMO as I come to terms with the fact that it js better for me to have a smaller, lighter kit. Actually a replacement for the GX9 might be an even better option!
On colours, Sebastiaan at Red Frame Tech developed a G9 to GH6 LUT which is very good. It is not perfect and Sebastiaan indicated that there are differences with the way the GH6 exposes / luminance levels in tones that made it impossible to match 100%. I haven’t tried Davinci or other software to try and match. BUT… I AGREE: GH6’s warmer colours are stunning. It seems Panasonic isn’t using the same recipe for its other cameras though. G9II is closer to S5II/X.
      Take care.

If you have Davinci Resolve, and want the best colours; I found recently you can convert HLG (Rec. 2100), which is better than V-LOG L, to any colour science you want. Game changer to such a classic camera, and a breath of new life!

I was initially put off by the cost of the CF Express type B, but I got a 2TB Lexar Gold card for $650 CDN. With this card I can record anything the GH6 is capable of while still powering the camera with the USB - C port. I got my GH6 for $2,029 CDN brand new.

For sure! They just are pricy cards when you need a lot of storage, or if you have a card failure that is a huge worry when an entire shoot is on one card only

I have the GH6, G9, and newest G9ii, I have the EF M1, the EF M2 II, and the Metabone speedbooster xl x64, and with all lenses that i tried, 18-35 from sigma, tamrons g2 24-70 2.8, canon 24-105... I can see that so as today, with the latests frimware both on camera and metabone and viltrox adapters, these are the conclusions:
Viltrox M1 with G9ii (there is no lens no speedbooster, is just the adapter. Autofocus does not work when filming, niether the af button to change automatically focus, only manual. But when taking pictures, or not filming, autofocus works and the button for ae lock and shutter button works, both in film mode dial and picture. It is strange, sometimes filming in autof to the sky and then returning leds you focus just once...This might be a bug because in MF the button for focusing niether screenAF does not work. GH6 works better, button always responsive and quick, but auto focus works but really bad, stays happily out of focus and suddenly maybe it focus or tries to change but doesnt work. I use to focus with af-on/aelock button with my thumb and then manually focus when needed, so in this case gh6 works better.
Viltrox M2 II with G9ii (x 0.71) This one is also strange: Autofocus does work sometimes but veeery slowly, slowly annoying, both in afs and mf if you want to focus rightaway it will not, you will have to wait until (smooth slow) focus arrives if it does..., and it might be like 4-5 seconds its tedius or never happen. Face auto focus or animal in video is also sometimes ok, but i dont know on what depends, the guy that made the youtube video testing hag a metabone 0.71 but did not always work, and the more light you have also, but will not relay at all, gh6 does also work kinda but also will not relay on its autofocus (because gh6 as rest of lumix mft cameras it will ghost or loose focus or focus backrground, jump, etc.) In the g9ii Pointing to the sky and back makes it easier...but again i will not use this for video at all. Video is impossible for me cause I need at least a button to autofocus and then manual focus...Tried different lenses or even different firmware and only 4.0 from viltrox kindaworks, lower firmware will not autofocus at all on video niether pushing focusing button (also happens in M1). For taking pictures autofocus does work good, just like the m1. And for the gh6 it does work better also: if you touch to focus or focus whith the button in afs or mf it will work perfectly (not smooth but snappy and accurate) for me is a win. Also in pictures works as good for both.
Metabone xl x0.64, with g9ii this one works very simillar to the rest of m43 lumix cameras (i tried on gh5, g7, g85, g9, g100, gx9) autofocus does not work, focus will not follow you when filming, only buttons and touch to focus work, and the gh6 aswell. When not filming camera automatically catches focus with what it has in front but when filming it just locks the latest catched focus and from there you will need to push button to refocus new subject and also manual focus. For me is the most reliable and consistent, and I guess that the x0.71 metabone will also be like this, at least if you have the g9ii. If you have the gh6 or g9mk1 or other ones you could choose whatever combination you like.
Conclusion: G9ii was kind of lame with adapters (for now i hope), cause if youre run and gunning for video trying to relay on autofocus i will only recomend metabone, but looks like gh6 is better in the rest areas. I will only recomend g9ii if you only have lumix lenses or maybe olympus (i only own 3 lumix mft lenses) or if you have metabone (not viltrox for the moment). It might have something to do with the phase autofocus... For me at least as i 95% of the time use adapted ef lenses, i would recomend gh6.

G92 has in theory way less noise and 1 stop better dynamic range than gh6. I have not seen in practice that being true. Every comparison shows practically identical video quality.

Yeah I think that is incorrect... the G9ii has all the same video specs the GH6 does. Including 4K 4:2:2

I want to buy g9 mk2. I downloaded user manual and it says 4k 422 is h264 not h265. H264 is half the quality vs h265. If you have the g9 mk2 can you check it has 4k 60p 422 10bit like gh6 has. Thanks.

Ok. I looked my gh6 4k 60p 422 files and those are also h264, no hevc. So yes they are similar. 6k 60p files are hevc in both. Intrestingly all 422 modes are h264 and all 420 modes h265. Both 200Mb/sec in both cameras. Confusing. Why record more image data with worse codec?
