  • In this video, I'm in Whistler BC, and I'm going canoeing. Whistler isn't nessearily known for it's canoeing, but it's definitely a world class destination for outdoor recreation. Usually it's skiing, snowboarding, golf, and mountain biking, but those aren't for me. I had heard that Whistler has a river connecting two of it's main lakes together, the River of Golden Dreams, which really caught my attention. After doing some research, I found that the River of Golden Dreams Connects Whistler's two biggest lakes, Alta and Green, but there's 2 more lakes right next to those that I thought needed some love too. Which led me to this trip, canoeing all four of the main lakes in Whistler. Technically there's more lakes in Whistler, but they are not part of this chain. Anyways, I started this journey at Alpha Lake, then portaged over to Nita Lake, again portaging to Alta lake, then canoeing down the previously mentioned River of Golden Dreams to Green Lake. Not in the video, but I had my bike stashed at the end at Green Lake Park, which I then completed this loop with. It was a fun trip, very beautiful, and I think a really interesting perspective to see Whistler from. I talked a little bit about Whistler and it's history, but mostly this is just a story of the adventure, and doing something different. Some random guy in the park liked what I was doing and gave me a beer, so I already have at least one person that thinks this was cool. It was fun, and a cool adventure, but connecting the first two lakes was kind of unnecessary. If you're looking to do a paddle in Whistler, going Alta to Green on the River of Golden Dreams is probably what you're after. Although, I don't regret going to Alpha and Nita, they were beautiful. The extra portaging I had to do was super simple on the valley trail, and I made short work of it with the help of my canoe cart. I wouldn't want to do that portage without a cart, especially if there was a lot of people on the trail. The valley trail can get super busy on summer weekends, and you'll almost certainly be the only one portaging a canoe. I don't really know what to say, Whistler is awesome.
