- We spent a day on Rottnest Island, a small island just off from fremantle. We hired bikes for the day (there are no cars or electric bikes allowed on the island, just one bus and some service/emergency vehicles). The island is home to a small marsupial called a quokka. They are very used to people and so we had a pretty friendly visit while we sat and had a snack on the island.
This is the closest thing to a real life pikachu
wait,is this what Pikachu is suppose to be? lol
oh nvm, theres an actual animal called a Pika lol, thats wut Pikachu is

It's like Disney made a 3-D printer and then bred the cutest thing that came out with a fistful of ecstasy.
That is the god dang cutest thing, ah tell you what.
if i could have a pet quokka, i'd name it "Cola".
This cutie thing looks happy, just look at his smile C:

Fascinating that they have three toes. Evolution is amazing.

AWE THEY'RE SO CUTE...I WANT ONE...
Gah if only I lived closer! These things are so adorable!! But I hate that it's illegal to handle them. That would be so hard for me because I would just love to hug and snuggle that cute face!
So cute, I almost forgot the existence of Canadians
What a cute little grinning face!
Their feet are so weird but their faces make me want to love them.

Cute. I want to see one. My friend thought I was joking when I told him there was such a thing as a quokka.
How come thatt TODAY, in early 2013 is the first time ever I learn about these adorable little critters? I now officially owe the Internet more useful information that I ever did to Grade School!
it has a natural smile on it lol
They are sooooo cute!! love it thanks!
aww so adorable & friendly!
How flippin' cute!
Ah, the quokka...
Also known as the happiest animal on the planet. ^^
So cute!!
You're not the only one to think they look like rats. Here's a bit of history about the Island where they live.
"Rottnest Island was discovered in 1696 by Willem de Vlamingh, a Dutch explorer, who named the island Rats' Nest due to the many large rats that he found on the island. Visitors to the island don't need to worry about these 'rats' as they are one of the islands friendly attractions, otherwise known as Quokkas which are a small wallaby."
I like them so much I'll like if they will just be FREE. In their nature.
They're like always smiling haha
OMFG cuteness overload.
SO CUTE!!
wouldnt it be awesome if u could genetically engineer those adorable fluffballs and repopulate them till it would be legal to keep them as pets?
Yeah that would be awesome
It sounds great on paper, but even the slighest tweak of genetic makeup may result in disastrous outcomes. The newbred quokka may become dominant and flush out the pure quokka, leading to it's extinction. Too risky, but that's just my opinion. I'm pretty sure the government is funding some sort of breeding program, however, as they should do for all endangered animals.
Winston Smith thats potentially true but what im saying is cloning a bunch of them then encouraging interbreeding. that way the population should rise. just dont fuck with their genetic code lol, we have an entire series of movies to show why thats a bad idea
I love Rottnest Island my family and i go all the time on our boat it is an awesome place to go on the weekend
The most adorable animal I've ever seen. Makes me so much to visit Australia. I mainly wanted to see the kangaroos. I didn't even know quokkas existed til yesterday!!
it has lots of curiosity. so cute i wanna meet them
THIS NOSE!! OMFG, SO ADORABLE! *_*
I love those. :)
so cute
Soooo cute
huh,,,, its remarkable that they aren't afraid of humans. If they only knew....
OMGGGG. I honestly feel like crying because it's so cute
adorable
thats one cute lil dango
They passed up the perfect opportunity to portmanteau that into Smallaby.
I love them.. i will go to Rottnest Island :D hope to see those little quokkas ^_^
thing is cute as hell!
few people do. i read a whole thing on rottnest island written in the newspaper promoting tourism attractions, and there wasn't a single mention of quokkas. saw these as a kid growing up in western australia (i was born in that state), and went to a school camp on rotto.
So a chinchilla is a "mouse" with squirrel's tail. And a Quokka is a "squirrel" with a mouse's tail. Damn nature..
Лапуся 😍
I think Quokkas would make really great pets for the right people if they just can recover from being endangered and be introduced to the pet trade :)
This animal is homeless and still smiles #respect
Hello, Quokka!
I saw one of these furry little balls of happiness on 9gag and simply had to look them up on youtube! I need to get a job.
a $50 fine for feeding them? oh my god. totally worth it.
So cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
ITS SMILING!! GIMMEEEE
0:32 CUTEST FACE IN THE WORLD
Got a rat tail, cat body and guinea pig/squirrel/ chipmunk.
and bunny front feet. wow
Thumbs up if you want to see this part in 3D and had the feeling of hugging the cute creature 1:10
it's so cute :D
''There's a $50 fine for feeding the Quokas''
I will quickly end up poor, homeless and bankrupt if i go to visit that island...
Awwwwwwwww!
I've seen them in a couple of pictures before. It like a cross between a Koala and a kangaroo :P
WHY ARE THEY SO HAPPY? :D
It's so adowabow!
I was waiting for her to throw some chips too hahahaha
It looks unpredictable
im moving to australlia just to see them
Wow I just discovered a new animal today
Why havn't Quakkas been domesticated yet? These little guys could be as popular as cats and dogs.
Because the quokkas are so vulnerables
So, all tender animal have to be domesticated?
for this, the world is as it is, for the human stupidity ( sorry for my english, i speak spanish)
Dani Escobar There's nothing inherently immoral about domestication of a species, especially if they're easily adaptable and habituated to humans.
That's WHY we have cats and dogs, are you going to make a ridiculous argument claiming somehow we shouldn't have domesticated them?
microwavebenis All that person is saying is that some animals are not meant to be domesticated even though they are tender and cute as it is not in their best interest and they wouldn't thrive as pets. Oh and yes, domesticated? Maybe, but many domesticated animals are actually "man made" and a lot have suffered horribly because humans wanted certain unnatural features such as dogs with flat faces or short legs and in-bread too much, in which case its not okay - like with these cuties.
Amoroussparkle There's very little about these that would make them ill adapted for domestication.
Creatures such as silky ant eaters? Absolutely, they would not make good domestic pets.
There are still breeds of dogs that are not all that distant from that of the wolf, and so using dogs as an example doesn't serve your argument.
The fact alone that Quokkas are easily habituated and could have their diet simulated in a controlled environment lend a lot to their ability to be domesticated.
microwavebenis cats and dogs served a purpose as pets as well as duties such as protection or catching vermine etc. Quokkas purpose is to be cute and entertain us. Let them be free.
Australia is famous for having huge bugs and spiders and stuff
Sounds like Florida!
reminds me of a miniature kangaroo
That's actually what it is. It's basically a kangaroo/rat
JPure360
So they're wallaby's then?
nuke2099 A wallaby is a pretty general term. Any macropod that is smaller than a kangaroo is a wallaby, so yes, a quokka is a wallaby.
looks,like,a,fuckin,mouse,to,me,
looks like a giant rat! ew
All the sudden, big ass spiders.
😍😍
you mention its a $50 fine for feeding them (and i agree! we're so lucky to have them, gotta do all we can to protect them), but i thought you can buy little packs of proper food for them on the island to legally feed them with? or am i thinking of a time long gone, or perhaps im just confused
Well found my new pet
I go to Rottnest every year... Only take us 30 minutes by ferry
awwww! at 0:44(paused). icanhascheezburger brought me here.
they were actually on the mainland in small number before white man bought cat and red english foxes which wiped out the few mainland ones. i think cat ownership is extremely restricted if not banned on rotto.
Pause at 0:21 it's so cute!!
They are not "big smiling rats", more like "little smiling kangaroos".
she probably fed him after switching off the recording
Very cute. Have you seen the kangaroos playing on the swings at a caravan park in a place called Quinninup. Swinging Kangaroo on y tube
Wtf facts, happist animal:p
Comel siut.
AWWW
FUCK that thing is cute.
I need a Quokka as pet and friend :3
WOOOOOOO SON ME TOO!!
Do they know that people find them cute and won't hurt them? Are they intelligent?
I WANT EIGHT OF THAAAAAAAAAAAAT
One would imagine that if something is threatened, that folks "who love animals" would try to find a way to get them to become more populous. They are actually "natives" unlike some of the most destructive animals in Australia which were introduced. "Ya can't feed them or touch them." Well, Hell, why not sell what they eat or start some breeding programs to bring them back. I bet they were once far more numerous. Laws to "protect them" keep them threatened, they don't unthreaten them.
Give him something to eat. Dammit!
They exist in VERY low numbers; I think a small portion of the population should be bred and tamed.
They are extremely vulnerable to extinction otherwise.
thats because they are from the same family
9gag bring me here!
kangaroo+koala+chicken legs+mouse=quokka
can you feed them leaves or fruit off trees they normally eat?
obviously they shouldnt be eating what we do. but would there be a fine to feed them their own diet off trees?
I want one
