I love love love this video! I wish I had been introduced to horses at this age! I wasn't until about 11. My 12 1/2 year old brother and I, at 14, started our first horse under saddle with no adult help or supervision! We were blessed with the perfect 2 year old filly. Never even offered to buck during training! I'm 65 now and disabled. Can no longer own and ride horses. Miss horses everyday of my life!

God, I can't stand watching this beautiful, poignant and sensitive video any longer, it's just too lovely and encouraging because I've been afraid of horses all my life, maybe because the horse can sense my fear but can feel the fearless confidence and love of an innocent child.🐴🐎🙂

I was once told to familiarize myself with a Clydesdale, you know, the gentle giants of the horse world. I don't know.🤔
@@bagotoetags801 I think you'd be better off getting to know a Clydesdale or a Shire, as you said gentle giants. Ponies can be temperamental and unpredictable. No offense to pony lovers. We all have our favorites.

When I was very small my dad used to set me on the back of a huge percheron gelding to keep me safe from cattle in the same pasture. We went every afternoon to feed his cutting horse and put her though paces. My "baby sitter" took great care never to go beyond a walk, and was careful to avoid walking under low trees that might have scraped me off. When I got bored I lay down dangling my arms and legs on either side of his back, and I'd doze off on the warm hide and the comforting muscles moving under me as he grazed. It seemed the most natural thing in the world. . . . What a dear horse he was. Once Dad lifted me down so we could go home, I would hug the front leg of my friend, who would lean his head down and breathe his warm grassy breath on the top of my little head. . . .

Horses are VERY gentle with children!
Facts, they are very patient and tolerant of children. My friends and I as young kids used to chase the horses around the stable trying to mount them. Whenever we thought we had them cornered they would let us grab hold of their mane, get one leg up before they would take off running and we would fall down. We chase them around and they would do the same thing over and over again. They were really playing with us and were very comfortable and gentle with us. As an adult I look back and remember just how easily they could have hurt us. One half kicked and we would have been done for. A horse almost killed one of my uncles because he was as drunk as a skunk and wanted to ride the horse. It didn't want him to ride it because he was drunk and that horse didn't like him anyway. He forced the issue and the horse bucked him off but his foot got caught in the stirrup and that horse took him for a vicious ride. That fool was lucky to be drunk. He was never the same after that and never rode or went anywhere near a horse for the rest of his life. Horses are very keen and sweet, but like humans they can be mean too and if they don't want to be bothered you sure as heck better know it.
Should have told that to my first horse.😂 Guess military horses are built different
