When I was a kid, I fell off a trail on my bike and noticed my foot wedged in a hole. Pulled my foot out and a couple of thousand wasps rushed after me. He imagines his stupidious theory about the benefits from killing wasps. It´s not good. As I said, that kills thousands of bees. Cuz of insecticides used on the bad insects saved by waspkilling. It´s all at your own, if you will learn wrongly, it´s your problem... and problem of all beehives around.

Gasoline works very well on yellow jackets, followed by a match about 5 minutes later, followed by a couple M80’s. Gas and fire is great for nests not close to a house or plants you want to keep, But don't use it close to flammable things or items you want to keep. I used this method on a big yellowjacket nest years ago out in a field I mowed. I got stung 3 times before I made it in the house. First I located all the exits- there were 2 and I marked them with stones. Once it got dark I went out and blocked all but one exit with the stones. I filled that sucker full of gas and lit it. It was glorious! Fire and bees on fire shot out of that hole 8 ft. up in the air. No more yellowjackets. Paybacks are H@ll.

I have found a great way to deal with a yellowjacket nest is to wait until late at night and if it is cool all the better. Then I get some of those whole house insect foggers and a couple of long broom handles. Once you set them off they keep going and the fog and dust finds its way into their whole nest. If you you have to battle wasps that are flying, use straight simple green in a pressured garden sprayer. When you hit them with the spray they drop like a rock. You can either wait for them die in a few minutes, or step on them and get a satisfying pop. And simple green is bio degradable aka environmentally friendly.

ok, first off good job with the night time attack. taking advantage of them at night while they're dormant is definitely safer.
and on another note, pyrethrin is a toxin that attacks the nervous system (wear a mask and gloves while applying, this shit is serious business) which is why it causes lethargy.

Some dust pestiside on the shelf and with every passage they carried it inside. The nest was gone in a day.

I reviewed the foam type wasp killer recently for a nest hanging in my shed. Really useful if you can see the entrance hole as you can direct it from a metre or so away. Killed them all (almost...you can maybe see some larvae movement in my video). The nest is quite a beautiful thing really but very light and papery. No frightening buzzy noises in mine though! I protected myself well for my night assault but all for nothing as not one came out while I was there. (but I didn't stay long to find out!!). Thanks for sharing yours. There is a bid difference between wasps and bees. Wasps are NOT bees. Bees are Honey producers and pollinators. Bees are absolutely needed for our food production. Google that. They only can sting once and only sting when absolutely threatened, e.g. stepped on accidentally barefoot or caught between your shirt and skin maybe. I kept bees once and they are amazingly calm if one keeps calm. Wasps are the baddies and Yellowjackets are the worst. They need to be eliminated... You did a good job to the nest under the shrub! Just save our bees please :-)

mrprosale please don’t spread rumors like you know what your talking about. Bees are important pollinators yes, but so are wasps, actually they are better pollinators because they are faster and produce offspring more often. Plus there are many common plants that are solely pollinated by wasps and only wasps. Not to mention if you leave wasps in your garden they incredibly reduce the pest population because they kill and eat them. So please before you go out and talk big like you know what your saying... google it.

There is a trick my grandpa uses to kill underground wasps, it may not be the cleanest method, but what he does is get some gasoline pour it down the hole and then lights it, all the wasps die within seconds. And any wasps that were outside the nest can't go back in due to the strong odor of the gasoline. It doesn't seem to do any damage to the soil since he plants a garden every year and nothing has ever died from him doing that other than the wasps.

Hi, I think you like bees. Me too. But well I like wasps too. They´re beneficial and important. They kill caterpillars and other bad insect. Less wasps, more caterpillars. Then people use insecticides and bees die on flowers... all wasp trappers kill bees. All entomologists will say wasps are beneficial for gardens and forests. If you think they are bad, ask some of them. They watch insects for years and know them. See my wasp or hornet feeding and you will believe in their unaggressivity. The wasps never attack with no reasons. They are peaceful. people who say yellow jackets attacked them want only to kill more of them... for their own. And their pets. Petting dogs is not bad, but wasp killing is. Wasptrappers kill bees by killing wasps for their own. Believe in this, it´s a bad genocide, not saving bees. It´s killing beneficial insects and damaging nature.

That night I took an INDOOR aerosol bug bomb, taped it to a stick and went to the scene of the crime. I activated the bomb, exhausted its contents into the opening then dropped the stick and retired for the night. Next day.... all yellow jackets were dead with the exception of the few who had spent the night out on the town. End of story.

The ground bees (like bumble bees but very aggressive) attacked him. They were hanging on and kept stinging. I knocked them off and ran him in the house to take care of him. After dark I put some leaves over the hole and some sticks on top dowsed it good with lighter fluid and struck a match. No more ground bees. As they came up they burned up. I always thought that bees in general could only sting one time and then they'd die. But those things just hung on and stung repeatedly.

Used to be a professional exterminator and we used Drione on a daily basis. I don't know if it's changed but it was always illegal in most states for anyone without a license from the EPA, though it was sold online for anyone to obtain. Also, evergreen bushes secrete sugars that the wasps just love. They don't eat it or anything like that, but the scent attracts them from a long way away. If you remove those bushes you will see an immediate drop in the number of yellowjackets on your property.
If you are going to spray it out in the open (not into a crevice) you also have to be very careful. First, if it gets into any natural water source such as a stream, lake, pond or even ground water table you could be facing prison time. We often had to deny jobs because there was no way to treat the area without contaminating a water source (typically in boathouses or on trees that grew over the water). In those cases we had to either suit up and just manually remove everything or just let it be).

I doubt I'll be believed but hornets can be trained to behave. I once had to get on a 2nd story roof to fix a leak. There was a large paper wasp's nest about 2 feet from where I needed to work. As I walked toward the nest one came flying straight at me and I backed off really quickly. Waited a couple of minutes and tried again. Another one came towards me again and I backed off. This happened about 10 times over a 20-minute period. Finally as I moved closer they stopped sending out scouts. I knelt down to start working with the nest 2 feet to the left of my head. I could have easily reached out and touched it. I worked there for the rest of the day moving like I normally do fetching tools and materials and hammering nails and they never once bothered me. I just made sure that I always approached the nest slowly and they were fine with that.

Yes I heard clearly you said kill bees, also killing insects because they dig holes in your lawn!!! Birds feast on insects.. Also just leave any wasp alone and It will be OK untill some idiot comes along waving and screaming and shouting, this then sets them into attack mode. All they want is a banana skin to feed off. Just think if some one whacks yourself you hit back the wasp can't hit you. I get the problem with dogs digging up the nest and you did right to fence it off. They only live for a few days. Wet and cold weather clears them away as they don't like cold and wet conditions.
