The conversation about the flower scent really expanded my perspective on the MV even more (from the obvious flower symbolism’s Jisoo shows in the choreo and through color and lyrics) your conversation made me take note during your second watch that most of the shots indoors Jisoo is “sad” and in darker or duller colors like neutral blacks and whites, but all her outfits outside are vibrant she’s confident and dancing. Almost like a flower in a vase “indoors” is less beautiful more likely to dull and wither while a flower free and in the wild “outside” is more vibrant has a more potent fragrance is freely moving with the wind, and most importantly able to flourish etc.
omg i love that observation!! this song gets more personal and special the deeper you go
so what i take from you is that as jisoo comes out of the hotel, her dress colors become brighter and brighter, so her coming out of the hotel is the process of healing from a relationship (by becoming more confident, free, etc.). i was thinking of that as well. but earlier i saw another theory that says jisoo is actually a "flower girl" (courtesan in the past) who is weighing all her emotions to to gradually get out of the "industry". i think this theory and yours (and mine lol) can be combined
oh and that "courtesan" theory also states that the yellow house is a reference about a real movie called "yellow house" or something like that, which revolves around a courtesan

Theory-I have a fairly strong notion that the subtext of the video is that rather than it being an ordinary love story, Jisoo is playing a sex worker, a 'flower girl.' In past centuries in China, Japan and Korea, the title 'sing-song girl' (Chinese: 歌女), or 'flower girl,' was a slang term for a courtesan. The yellow building which Jisoo stands outside of, looking in at a set of pearls, was painted that colour specifically for this MV shoot. It strongly suggests the 1996 Korean film ‘Yellow House,’ which is about a sex worker who struggles with her identity when she is forced to leave the Yellow House brothel of the title.
Jisoo is playing the role of someone who is deeply conflicted by her profession, with all the waiting around in hotel rooms and lobbies, avoiding eye contact with maids and elevator operators, plus all the inevitable heartbreak and loneliness. At the same time she is still attracted to the money she makes and the sense of power it brings, as this may be her only alternative to poverty. The tearing off of the choker at the end is a signal of the character taking charge of her independence. She is no one's pet or possession. PS: This is a description of a role that actress Jisoo is playing. It is not actually a description of our wonderful Jisoo, the brilliant and talented actor and singer from Blackpink.

flower is simple but elegant and suits jisoo perfectly imo. i think they chose a more chill kind of song so that her vocals would be what stands out the most. def my favorite of the solos!
This is exactly what I thought. Jisoo’s goofy and unserious, but at the same time she’s elegant and is beautiful just like a flower so I think they did a good job putting this all together for her. Also I’ve been listening to her album nonstop, help me😭
in her interview with youngji they were talking about how big of a star she is, how big blackpink is globally and if thats scary, if shes scared of all this going away. and shes okay with it, she knows its a moment and moments will pass, but shes glad this is happening now. that made me see the song in another point of view. previously i thought it was about romantic love, but now i think it might be about her, her music, her career. shes saying "this will end. ill be ok, will u?" idk the scent of jisoo will live on, even when she leaves her spot. not trying to say she will leave blackpink or blackpink will disband soon, but the song might be jisoo reflecting on herself as an artist and how much she can do in her life that is not just being a massive popstar.
also like the person on the song was cruel to her, but she knows is all an illusion, everything will go away but she is always this beautiful flower.

Jisoo's voice is indeed hypnotic!! Her tone is so unique, and raspy. Also I love the minimalism of the music video because it only works with Jisoo and especially her acting skills. Her face might seem blank at first but her eyes are so vocal and her acting so subtle!! The scenes with her in the mirror? They left me speechless.
Actually the blank face she does is the confusion from the perspective of "break-up" just being recent and don't know how it happened kinda like that. (if the topic is about relationship and breakup)
@@yevgenyalekhinelargo1662 what I interpret her expression as is more, for me at least, a look at herself being in a relationship and does not bring her happiness. What I interpret from the story is Jisoo being in a toxic, unhappy relationship where she is held like a flower in a vase, unable to be herself and do what she wants.

Personally I really love this song. I think that people are surprised by this is because they expected some Blackpink style song. But she made it pretty clear before that that she wanted to do something that she likes and that reflects her. And that’s totally it this song is literally screaming Jisoo and it’s perfect for her.
So according to a Nylon article, the song is specifically about leaving a toxic relationship and reclaiming her personhood after it. But I solidly agree with you, this song is only as good as it is because Jisoo is the artist. Like with Taeyeon's INVU, it just wouldn't work with a different singer, it really embodies her je ne sais quoi.
Also, I'd love it if you featured Blair more in the videos, she's been a great addition these past few.
True. There are songs that suits the artists only for them. Like many can do cover but it's not the same. You know that the artist made that song themselves.

Jisoo's is my favorite BP solo, ngl. It's simple but really nice

during my first listen of the song, i was reminded of sunmi's song 'heartburn' because to me, they both gave me that dreamy? intoxicating? somehow creepy but not really but unique witchy vibe yk?
i fell completely in love with the song & jisoos vocals, although yes, i did hve some different hopes in mind for what her solo would turn out to be, but i was not disappointed at all.
more than that, the outfits & aesthetics in the mv are really beautiful to me and i love them as well.

This song fits her so perfectly. The only way I can describe it and the emotions it conveys is with the iconic phrase: "I'm Jisoo, I'm OK"
That "intoxicating" comment fell into place for me: I always wondered why the visuals (dance moves, lip movement) are slightly async with the audio - which felt like a mistake. But actually, a difference between audio+video could be seen by the brain as an intoxication symptom. Much like when you ride a car while reading and the difference between static visuals and different movements makes you motion sick. Means: If that audio/video delay is intentional, it could actually increase that "weirdly intoxicating" feeling. Brilliant!

I think you're on the right track with your hypnotic intoxication thoughts - the black and red outfit as well as the pink outfit at the end, are very poppy-ish, which suggests opium and its accompanying intoxicating aroma, The song seems to speak to the addictive nature of love.
This song proves that you don't need to be like hype and so to be intriguing and attractive.

The line about leaving the scent of a flower is so clever, because she's taunting him with her lingering scent after she leaves him.
It really comes across nicely in her slightly dark and tantalizing vocals.

I have been waiting for your reaction since the single album came out! I agree that the song is very hypnotic and eerie in a good way. I find it very fresh and the perfect song for Jisoo. I think what makes me like it even more is that she had a say in the creative vision for this song. I can't wait for you to listen to her B-side next week!
the mesmerizing feel is very prevalent when you see her dance performance video. You just cant get enough of it even if its intoxicating as hell. you should check it out even not posting it.
Cats are very independent so I believe the cat is symbolic of Jisoo becoming independent in the story.

I'm happy I'm not the only one who felt like that, this songs is likeable because jisoo singing it. It's like a perfect clothes for a certain person. I try to look for other cover with other type of voice but it was just NG for me (personally). I just think that this songs it's being shines by jisoo vocal but also compliment her vocal at the same time.

JISOO's voice has always been my favorite in BP, so I really enjoyed 'FLOWER' as the overall subtle hypnotizing nature of it really suits her🌺

The song is very refreshing but i can see why you'd need to listen to it few times but it's great imo.
I really love this song. I think it plays to her strengths as a vocalist and her personality as an artist, while also being fun to listen to. Also--I don't think anyone is crediting this enough, but it's such a grower! Though the songs are different, I felt the same way about Hwasa's I'm a B. Both songs have a subtle power that sneaks up on you over time, even if you don't fully appreciate them at first.
My first reaction to this song is This is Quintessentially Jisoo. The differences between this and Jennie's is Jennie really are hurt by the breakup while Jisoo took a day to come to conclusion that its totally your fault for screwing it up and you'll be haunted by my leaving while I have already moved on.

Jisoo really did incorporate flowers in the music video just by the outfit selection and transitions with the choreography and Dancers that made me feel happy an opportunity to see her voice and acting diversity

I’m not really a bp fan, but I keep up with their releases to an extent, and personally I don’t really enjoy this song, but I think your commentary did give me a bit more appreciation for it.
I still don’t really love it (though that’s probably because I’m not the biggest fan of Jisoo’s voice), but I think hearing different perspectives on it definitely helps me see why people would love it!

I thought of something while you guys were talking about the uniqueness of Jisoo's tone and personality. It made me think of Sunmi, as they both as kind of "quirky" as you put it. Granted, they are completely different artists with different sounds but I think if anyone would try a concept similar to what Jisoo did here, Sunmi would probably be likely to pull it off well.

Please I feel insane screaming this in every reaction video but someone needs to see what I see: Uhm Jung Hwa. Her voice the intoxicating feeling the hair the dancers the song. It screams queen Uhm Jung Hwa at her peak to me. It's like Invitation/Poison. I can't be the only one seeing this!

... is it just me, or am I just imagining some sort of a snake charmer music every time I listen to this song with my eyes closed. it's addictive though.. especially the weird sounding instrument part
I really think that this song also shows the journey of a flower....at the start, ABC do re mi, she is like a flower that hasnt bloomed yet...but still captures attention of passerbys...than as she bloomed, people wanted to capture it to show their love....the butterflies were enchanted too....but nothing could capture the beauty that this flower (jisoo) has.......
Later, in you and me part, lilac also represents innocence so it seems like that someone tried to pluck that flower off, but they couldnt....nevertheless, the flower lost some of its petals that flew away with wind and left its sent whenever they go......and in the last part......its the process of the end of the flower....when its either plucked or ended right on the plant...but soon due to its time, the leaves dried and were fallen off.....but when no one could grasp the beauty of the flower, it left ita scent right behind....
I noticed that the end of the bridge of this song is somewhat similar to Enhypen's Drank-Dazed and if Jisoo's concept was really drunk on her scent then it makes complete sense that both are somewhat similar in sound at that part.

Her looks are phenomenal , the mv is pretty but I can't exactly put a comment to the song itself ..The choreography is catchy and she looked so amazing....only Jisoo can make this song work ...

My favorite scene is when she gives the "side-eye" to the man in the elevator followed by a look of disgust for him just being there, or perhaps saying something she didn't like. :-)
