Oem shocks not so good. The GOOD : I bought this because it had the most important components stock. Ex.: metal trans gears., ring & pinion, metal suspension links. I aligned frame/body/bumper. It took some work. I installed (blue) 90mm injora shocks w/ 90 wt. shock oil. Lowered the frame by bolting shocks to top hole in shock hoops. Removed wheels. Installed injora beadlock/ tires hyrax on vehicle. But also put 77 grams of sticky weights on each wheel. Removed ugly chrome pin striping. Painted body Army green. Put taillights in back. The throttle control needs backing off to crawl better. Turned up all the way, this truck is way too fast. It's OK with stock electronics. The esc is quite good. Servo is also strong. Now that these issues were fixed, it articulates well, and crawls great. My trx4 sport came out of the box perfect. But I had a great sense of accomplishment making the RGT capable. I would not say don't buy it because the basics are there. You may have to tweak things. Worth knowing I have an RGT 86100 and an FTX OUTBACK GEO (same as RGT). Both are excellent. Shocks on GEO sucked. Other than that, great . RGT 86100 was great too, all it needed was shocks. Installed 4- KING 100 mm shocks..... For what it's worth.
What a great write up! Thanks for going into all that detail :) I had a similar experience to you (see the series I made about this truck, it has its own playlist: RGT EX86110: th-cam.com/play/PLP6qQhzesLdpI9EC3tEboBgnZ-inXNYat.html ). I found for about $25 and some work you can make this thing into a performance king! My first experience with the Sendero HD was also similar to yours. Straightened it up, made some tweaks and then magic on the rocks. Accomplishment / achievement after doing this enhances the satisfaction when you're driving it, as you say. Awesome!!
put the fenders as close as possible. change battery place to the center over the transfer plate, ut the body as low as possible taking care of the rear fender and change tires. It will go close to axial 10.2 with better climbing and less lateral capabilities. I don't really know how many rtr cars can do this circuit
Thanks Javier. I've got a modded performance video coming out for this impressive rig on the 7th. There are a few rigs that can do all 6, but that's the point - gotta be hard so that we find where they're weak. That gives clues on where and how to improve them. Thanks for your thoughts here, they're great suggestions! Cheers
Bought one of these on a Banggood flash sale. Put bigger wheels and tires, a 55 turn motor and it's a good trail truck. Does everything other trucks do at half the cost.
I don't doubt it! I'll be making some mods in an update video soonish and we'll test to see the difference. I expect it'll go well, as you've found too! Cheers :)
As always a nice and informative video. Keep it up. :) The music in the background could perhaps be left out - your voice and the car "noises" are all I need. Perhaps review the Yi Kong Racing YK4101 / absima Sherpa/khamba / amewi AMXrock RCX10 if you get the chance. The Amewi comes both with or without unlockable diffs, the others are with unlockable diffs. Thanks once again for all your great videos.
Thank you kindly for the encouragement! I'll experiment with music in upcoming videos. Have given it thought already and decided on using it, as a reasoned and careful decision, but I may try using it for some parts and leaving it out for others. Will see. I know it can be jarring if done poorly and my aim is to mesh everything smoothly and in a complimentary way - but I'm still new to video editing and you all get to watch my progress (or suffer through it, as the case may be!). I'll think on it. Thanks for your thoughts. Don't know if I'll be able to get to those vehicles. Haven't heard of them before and don't know Australian availability yet. But I'll look into them this afternoon. Thanks for the ideas!
@@RCTNT you're welcome. It's definitely not a "suffer through" experience, perhaps more of a personal preference with regards to music in reviews. :) The editing is really good and the music a good choice so as not to intrude/disturb too much. As said I enjoy all of your content and will happily do so with or without music. 👍 It's essentially the same rig, so either would work for review. (the khamba being the newest with upgraded shocks). I have a short video on my channel of the Amewi RCx10b if you are interested.
That was interesting and revealing. Once again, I think you got your reviews really well tuned-in by now. I'm really enjoying through all the video without dragging along or getting lost in the footage or your comments at any time. Great job! As for the rig. I was never that interested and hadn't noted the panhard + 4-link front. Seems like Panhard was a bit of an afterthought (that actually happened in their 1/18th scale trucks). But it's nice that both the Panhard and the steering link are adjustable. Not many big brands have that option, that I recall, and while not critical, it's all part of the fun to fine-tune your rig. I think what happens here is a bit like with real cars and many other products, really. Cheaper brands are really good at making cheap stuff, but when they try to bite a bit of the market that requires more quality components, they try, and they're nearly there, but with perspective, their value seems to be a bit more off, and not really worth once investing into that size/cost of an RC or whatever else you're getting into. Again, as others have said, if these put more people into the hobby, as I see regularly they do, it's always great. I can also appreciate the potential to get this to a higher level with a moderate investment but, as you imply, you're probably much better off starting with the 136100 V2, unless you're too scared of getting a small-sized rig - which IMO, you shouldn't, as they bring a different yet as entertaining of a challenge-. This will always stand a bit on its own due to its singular size, but still be a good rig to keep once you decide to jump onto other platforms. I have said several times spice of life is in variety, so the more choices to drive different stuff, the better.
Absolutely Love RGT! Without RGT (first one I bought was on sale) i never would’ve been able to get into scale crawling! They are a Great starting point & fix up/upgrade really, really well! 🤘👽👽👽
I don't doubt it! I'll do an update on this one soon with some minor changes to the configuration and we'll see how it performs. Definitely potential here!
@@RCTNT I'm almost positive the SCX10ii brass c'hubs & knuckles fit. For upfront forward by'est.. mite have to heat brass or aluminum c'hubs up with torch make new imprint on outer plastic axel end. Lol
I have always been curious about these RGT crawlers. I have probably every model in my amazon cart just sitting there but cant bring myself to pull the trigger lol. I noticed a few of their models have a panhard and 4 link up front. Id just remove the upper link but still its weird that they do that. The reason why I havent tried one out yet, is the exact reason you said. At the price point, I just dont see it worth trying over an scx10II, gen8 or enduro. Or enduro kit 2 for that matter. If they were priced around 200, i might try it. I was looking at the one that has cantilever rear suspension, I wonder how that one performs? Great video as always! Thanks for the info!
You're very welcome, my RC friend! There are a couple of RGT rigs here now, hopefully that's the start of helping you decide! I don't know anything about the cantilevered model, sorry - at least, not yet! Cheers
go for RGT EX86120 Desert Fox,it has a better tires, shocks, reverse rotation TC,1060 hobbywing ESC,i have a lot of video of that model in my channel.the cantilever rear suspension one is a short WB version of Desert fox, about the panhard and 4 link setup,i think its because the plastic link mount on the axle is not strong enough,it will bend under heavy load.most needed upgrade for this two models is 550 21T motor, lipo battery, servo, and metal mount for link rod.
Looks like a entry level beginner trail truck. And that’s about it but if it gets you into the hobby more power to you. The price would be the deal breaker not sure how much it is but it has to be under 250 but anything around that seems a bit high.
I mention the price near the start of the video. Can't recall the usd value but I think it might be around 250, yeah. It's a solid all rounder, just not hugely capable compared to some of the others. Still, not bad!
Good review. Pretty much my feelings as well. I hear you about the panhard and four link. Articulation and axle alignment I hated out of the box. I took a different approach than your suggestion. I left four link and removed the panhard. I like that better (I tried both ways). Also (at least on my version which is about 2 years old) you can move the battery tray forward sitting right over the center on the truck. There are mounting holes there. Doesn't necessarily help with center of gravity, but it does move the weight forward which I believe helps. I also put TRX4 shocks on it and cheap set of injora tires and beadlock wheels. I run a small 3s lipo for when I just need brute force (all electronics have held up fine) . I believe the back bumper is the problem with it hanging on things when you're climbing. I'd like to find a slightly shorter body and adjust the bumper in about an inch; I think that would help. Overall, I think the truck was over priced, but I like it. It's the only crawler / trail truck I have so I nothing to compare it to. I'm mostly into basher monster trucks having a bunch of those.
Written like a pro! You're going to find you have a bunch in common with the next video I do on this truck. You've nailed the improvements, I think, even down to the TRX4 shocks, coincidentally! I raised my bronco recently and have the original shocks just sitting around, now! Thanks for the thoughtful, detailed comment. Sounds like you're really on the ball!
No worries, Roy! The Gen 8 V2 is a solid choice. (I've got a bunch of videos on this car and more coming soon, if you're interested. It has its own playlist on my channel page).
The latest version of the Pioneer is pretty impressive. Retailing at around $450 at an Aus hobby shop, they're probably the best budget friendly crawler available. 👍
Oh really? Interesting. Got a model number by any chance? It's presumably different to this one... Unless it's just 'v2' at the end? Thanks Scotty, I'll keep an eye out.
I bought EX86100 a few weeks back and its awesome. I did find it a bit pricy but I think it's worth it. Only been out with it a couple of times in and around Melbourne.
Nice one! My experience with RGT so far is that even differing versions with the same model number can be vastly different vehicles, so don't let the EX86110 review here put you off yours - I know nothing about the EX86100 and it could well be awesome. Certainly the 136100 V2 was a cracking good deal and decent crawler for the price, which was about half the EX86110 here. Talk about diminishing returns! If you're in Melbourne, we may cross paths sometime. I'm working towards building up regular events and so on. There are also some really active social groups on FB, which I rarely use these days, but those groups are busy. Cheers :)
@@achrono8108 heh it won't be quite that soon! Getting insurance sorted first and that will be paid for by rc-tnt - that's the plan. It'll be mid-late 2022 hopefully, we shall see!
I own the rgt 86100. Very impressed. No slipper clutch. 👍...all metal (except for 1 plastic gear in transmission). Metal replacement available. Good motor, esc, quiet. It crawls great. Good low and high speed. Tons of metal replacement upgrades. Even axle Housings. IMO, don't need them. With beadlock wheels and weights, I put this truck up against any other truck. BTW, I installed RC4WD offset steel wheels/ black ($55) and RC4WD Patagonia 1.9 tires, and 4 king shocks, and it's beastly.
That was a good and honest review, much appreciated! I wasn't looking to buy one of these anyway, and now I'm also not going to get it, ha ha! But it was interesting to get familiar with your 6 "problems", I think now I will hop back and watch your Gatekeeper video(s), I think I want to watch those again...
Awesome video again buddy 👏 this looks very similar set up to the FTX Hi Rock which a buddy of mine has but I gotta say his seems to perform much better than that, when we go out that's what he usually brings and I take my scx10.3 which has been modified quite a bit and there aint that many places that I can get to where he can't. Thanks for the info my man one to stay clear of for sure 👍
Thank you! I think this car has potential and clearly it isn't terrible - if you can get through a few of the 6 problems, you're already in performance territory. I'm planning on revisiting this rig with a few small changes that will come through in testing, I expect. Stay tuned for that! Cheers
Wow this was a bit of a surprising let-down! There is another channel that has talked up this model enough that I was curious about the pro kit version with the carbon fiber chassis. I'm glad I didn't go for it at this point and thank you for this review! I never did notice the 4-link + panhard thing in the front. I see other comments recommending some upgrades, but I wonder if the add-ons put you in the range of a local hobby store type brand / household name. In other news, I discovered today that I inadvertently bumped my Sendero out of Sorrca Class 2 by adding the dig transmission to it 😂🤦♂. It's so much fun with dig! I'll have to see how the local clubs feel about it, but if they're following sorrca rules, I may have to go back to the Element OD transmission
Heh yep, a DIG will knock you out of the major rulesets in c2/performance scale, lol. But having driven with it, you'd appreciate why! As far as this truck goes, it isn't terrible. I mean, it did finish several of the problems. Some simple mods might help it along, too. If you can finish problems 1 and 2 on my set, and problem 5 to a lesser extent, you're in the same ballpark as the big guns. From there it's incremental improvement to get to top tier performance - and if you consider its cost, it isn't a bad machine. It's just that there are considerably better performers out there for not a lot more. I think the Sendero and the Gen 8 V2 both cost me just AUD$60 more than this thing was. Value goes out the window at that comparison! But on its own, price aside, it's quite OK.
@@RCTNT Thanks, I appreciate the voice of reason. I can certainly see why you get knocked out of C2 😅. That's good perspective on your 6-problems too. A decent set of knock-off tires (like you said) and cheap steel beadlocks, or a cheap set of Canyon Trail take-offs could keep you under that price difference. It's been a long travel day for work so I'm probably more focused on its shortcomings than I should have been :)
@@Andy_Yates and I could have been clearer on perspective, possibly. I'll make up for it in the follow up video, with the stuff we've discussed here. Thanks for the helpful chat! Enjoy your evening :)

Nice. I've enjoyed modding this thing too, though I've gone for more of a stock optimised version than replacing parts: th-cam.com/video/XW2KO557p6U/w-d-xo.html Mike is a lucky guy!
I have one but it's branded ExceedRC. It runs well. It's not a top of the line crawler, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It does great on trails, and yes the tires had to go. My problem with this rig is it leans to the passenger side rear and I can't get it to level evenly. Any suggestions?
Ah that's torque twist, which is unfortunate on this otherwise stellar rig. Not really much you can do other than winding down the preload a bit stiffer on the side that's dipping under acceleration. Don't miss the updated videos I did on this rig, we got it to perform very well with even the stock tires, which are better performers than many of the 30+ sets I have here. Playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLP6qQhzesLdpI9EC3tEboBgnZ-inXNYat.html Cheers
It isn't all bad! I've got a follow up coming where there will be significant improvement. Doesn't take a lot to make this better, I don't think! Stay tuned :)
I have an Ascender here, actually! They drive similarly, yes, but physically there's quite a lot that's different between it and the Pioneer: adjustable chassis, floating battery box, tiny diffs, 3-link & panhard, skid plate design, servo mount plate, gearbox assembly and outdrives and body mount system are all different.
I've got a whole playlist on this thing. I can't recall off the top of my head but this is the final video that shows the results and I'm pretty sure gives a recap: th-cam.com/video/XW2KO557p6U/w-d-xo.html Otherwise it's definitely covered in the previous one. Check the playlist, all the fixes and testing can be found there. Cheers :) RGT EX86110: th-cam.com/play/PLP6qQhzesLdpI9EC3tEboBgnZ-inXNYat.html
The Pioneer ended up being one of the best performing stock models I have. We went on quite a journey with it (there's a playlist for it on the channel here). Ultimately, it ended up in a Best-Of comparison video: th-cam.com/video/psFjmvRa2Mc/w-d-xo.html
Everything is tested equally so we have something hopefully useful. I gently disagree with you in that it is a rock crawler - there's much potential there, too. Just needs to be unlocked! My subsequent update video showed how much better it was with some changes and just an hour ago (really, only today) I tested my stage 2 mods (still keeping to an even tighter budget than the last upgrades) and now it's a monster on the rocks! That video will be coming soon. In stock form it's a fine trail truck, if that wasn't clear - it's a compliment to its unrealised potential to be compared to some of the bigger names. Truly, it is a good little truck, I agree with you there :) Cheers
I don't know what the RGT equivalent is but I'll look into it. Anything in particular you want to know, or just generally how it goes and how to make it better, etc? OK, had a look, found it: CRUISER V3FD (www.rgt-racing.com/cn_asp/productshow.asp?id=1201) I'll consider it. Watch this space! If you're in Melbourne, we may cross paths sometime. I'm working towards building up regular events and so on. There are also some really active social groups on FB, which I rarely use these days, but those groups are busy. Cheers :)
@@RCTNT That's great, looking forward to fun events this summer.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Cheers
They are the same. Part no's are different. Come from same factory
@@tigerone2353 thought as much buddy
#1. Drop the panhard bar it's a front 4 link lol
#2. Get some 1.9 rc4wd wagon wheel bead locks
#3. Push it to it's limits and past it's braking point
It was the first thing I did, that 4 link design was a bit silly!
th-cam.com/video/XW2KO557p6U/w-d-xo.html
@@RCTNT You too! You're doing awesome, no criticism meant or implied by my reply. Always a good day when I see the RC-TNT notification 👍
My friend has same rig he did a lot of mods and made it better he took 3rd with it in his first crawler comp after mods he still practicing with it while he runs his scx6 he got in a drawing he lucky lol Mike built a crawler course for 5th and 6th scale rigs
Nice. I've enjoyed modding this thing too, though I've gone for more of a stock optimised version than replacing parts: th-cam.com/video/XW2KO557p6U/w-d-xo.html
Mike is a lucky guy!
Playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLP6qQhzesLdpI9EC3tEboBgnZ-inXNYat.html
Cheers
I totally agreed. I bought one and wished I’d saved and bought a traxxas
It isn't all bad! I've got a follow up coming where there will be significant improvement. Doesn't take a lot to make this better, I don't think! Stay tuned :)
The truck looks nice, but i agree with you on the performance. Would rather save up just a little bit more money and get something else. Great video.
Thanks and yes, just a question of value, really. It's a good truck overall. We'll see what we can do with some basic mods sometime soon!
It looks to be something in between toy grade and hobby grade. I agree that for a little bit more money, there are much better options!
This truck has got to be an ascender ,, it really close if not
I have an Ascender here, actually! They drive similarly, yes, but physically there's quite a lot that's different between it and the Pioneer: adjustable chassis, floating battery box, tiny diffs, 3-link & panhard, skid plate design, servo mount plate, gearbox assembly and outdrives and body mount system are all different.
Which link did you remove for more flex in the front?
I've got a whole playlist on this thing. I can't recall off the top of my head but this is the final video that shows the results and I'm pretty sure gives a recap:
th-cam.com/video/XW2KO557p6U/w-d-xo.html
Otherwise it's definitely covered in the previous one. Check the playlist, all the fixes and testing can be found there. Cheers :)

@@RCTNT thanks for the quick reply. Awesome channel!! Cheers!
I just cant understand how can people suck so much with rgt. I did scale comps with stock rgt and had no problems.
The Pioneer ended up being one of the best performing stock models I have. We went on quite a journey with it (there's a playlist for it on the channel here).
Ultimately, it ended up in a Best-Of comparison video:
th-cam.com/video/psFjmvRa2Mc/w-d-xo.html
What real car brand and model this rig imitates guys ?
None that I know of. There are a few models like this from various manufacturers, like the Cross RC AT4.
This truck is actually a very good truck. I think in your tests you expecting to much if it. It's not build for that. It's not a rock crawler.
FTX Treka 3 please 🙏🏼
I don't know what the RGT equivalent is but I'll look into it. Anything in particular you want to know, or just generally how it goes and how to make it better, etc?
OK, had a look, found it: CRUISER V3FD (www.rgt-racing.com/cn_asp/productshow.asp?id=1201)
I'll consider it. Watch this space!
It's a bit different but we did do version 2 of this vehicle - th-cam.com/video/Psj6Pwm7ZQA/w-d-xo.html
very good vid
Thanks! The truck gets better - check the playlist for it, we've come a long way with it. Quite a capable machine with a few little changes!
