    I put a bypass kit on my 2006 6.0 back in 2008. Great investment! I had head studs put in as preventative maintenance in 2016 and the mechanic said it was one of the cleanest engines he had ever worked on. I believe it really helps with wear in the injectors and engine.

    OFF TOPIC: Bill, I want to thank you for your very helpful videos on 7.3L Superduty. I have a 2003 and just installed my 5th starter and third set of batteries in five years. I ended up with a gear reduction starter as you recommended along with two Interstate batteries, a 5a battery tender, and I swapped out the coolant cap while I was at it. Thanks so much. It's like having a new truck.

      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      chucker roo You can get either a single-remote kit (BMK21) or a dual-remote kit (BMK26) from AMSOIL. The dual-remote replaces the factory oil filter with an adapter and then remotely mounts both the full-flow and bypass filter onto a filter head that you attach to the body or frame. I like the single-remote because it is smaller and the factory 7.3 full-flow filter is larger than the filter that comes with the dual-remote kit. Is it correct that the EGR on a 6.7 (or any diesel) introduces junk into the oil? And that's also one of the benefits of having this bypass filter? Does this system help avoid some of the system destruction caused by the EPA required features?

    • @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EGR brings more soot into the air intake system of the engine, and most of this soot is re-burned in the combustion chamber and pushed out the exhaust (or sent thru EGR again). This additional soot coming into the engine can cause deposits to form in the combustion chambers and in the top ring land of the pistons. That's why it is so important to use an engine oil that is compatible with your emission system (CJ-4 or CK-4, for example for trucks built since 2007) and to use an oil with a robust detergent package to help control sludge and carbon build-up inside the engine. The bypass filter will capture smart particles of soot and sludge and keep them from sticking together and forming deposits elsewhere in the engine.

  • @FVRwilson

    The oil going into the primary filter, must it also pass through the bypass? Or is it only a small portion at a time?
    If it must, The resistance of passing through a tighter micron filter increases the pressure on the feed. Does the 6.7 have a pressure relief that bypasses the filtration all together at a certain threshold? If so, and if the bypass filter is designed to filter 100% of the feed after the primary, has it been verified that it doesn't create too much pressure on the feed, forcing unfiltered oil back into the engine?

    • @wizard_of_poz4413
      @wizard_of_poz4413 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only a tiny fraction of the oil is going through the bypass system because the idea is that it works slowly over time to stratify any microparticles and water from the oil

    Sounds like it’s easier just to change the oil when your truck calls for it. Face it nobody wants to do the work with all the pre oil testing and then when you get the system you have to test every 5k. The people that get this will just buy it and do the normal oil changes.

      Eric Jensen Oil sampling is great when used correctly. It will show when you have excessive iron, aluminum, bearing material etc. The idea is you are in front of major wear/damage IF you bother to address it. You need to build a timeline by frequent analysis to get a baseline. A one off oil sample is almost useless.
      Personally I would never be running my oil for 25k miles + and just changing filters at those very high mile numbers presented. I would be changing the oil and filters as normal...as you mentioned. Just reap the benefit of the better filtered oil.

    • @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it doesn't void warranty unless you install it wrong and your error causes engine damage. CK-4 oils that also meet the Ford diesel oil spec are ok. The AMSOIL 5W-40 used in the video meets both. Yes, you can change oil and filter and leave bypass filter alone until it needs changed.

    BILL question! how does my trucks computer know it’s time for oil change ?? Is it a km count down or engine hours or what how does it know that oil is no longer good ?(2015 6.7 xlt)

    • @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your computer measures miles/engine hours, fuel consumed, air temp, engine temp, etc to determine oil change intervals. It does not actually test the oil. If you use Oil Analysis Services as suggested in this video, you will be testing your oil - not using a calculated formula. Testing actual oil greatly reduces risk when extending oil change intervals.

    Due to it's price I was hesitant to invest in Amsoil at nearly triple the cost but I am here to say it's worth every PENNY. I recently changed to it in my 2009 Suzuki SX4 and I am now getting better Gas Mileage then what the Factor Specs called for, upwards of 27 MPG and Factor claims the best is 25 MPG. That might not seem like much of a boost but it is consistently now over 4 tank refills a +2 average MPG increase and that says something to me personally. I am not easy on this car and the only time it goes under 55 MPH is when it's parked; and on the Highway 80 MPH is average.
    The best part is how much quieter the Motor is running and how much smoother the engine sounds. Before this Oil the Motor sounded like it was nothing but Metal on Metal Grinding and at 80 MPH I thought I could see sparks from under the hood... Of course that might be a slight exaggeration but not too far from the truth all things considered. I plan to upgrade to Amsoil in all my vehicles even at the added cost. Just make sure to use a Quality Oil Filter and don't cheap out there because the Oil Filter is EVERYTHING when it comes to keeping this Oil Clean and Filtered. Cheap Filters break down too easily and allow dirty Oil to bypass the Filter and Gum up the works. Spending upwards of 50 to over 100 USD for the Oil can afford upwards of 20 bucks for the Filter.
    I am not telling you how to spend your money but rather saying how I will be spending mine from now on and I am here to say Amsoil is a MUST in EVERY ENGINE... Cheers....

  • @JamReeder
    @JamReeder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question and a comment.
    Question: How will this affect the temperature of the oil? The adapter takes hot oil, filters it and puts it back into the engine via the oil filler cap. Doesn't this oil bypass the oil cooler? It seems to me that this may cause a rise in the oil temperature, particularly when the engine is under a heavy load during towing.
    Comment: Unfortunately, the plan to use oil analysis to determine the need to change the oil is good only for vehicles which are out of warranty. Not changing the oil as recommended by FORD may have one in a warranty argument/battle if there is ever an engine issue that should be covered by the warranty.

    • @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The oil sent thru the bypass filter is a very small amount (less than 10%) of total oil flowing at any time, and it has already been thru the cooler. The bypass filter also provides some small amount of additional cooling since it is mounted outside of the engine.
      Per Federal law, Ford (and any other OEM in USA) cannot void your warranty just because you didn't change your oil per their instructions (unless they give you the oil for free and install it for free). There has to be an oil-related malfunction, and then they have to prove thru 3rd party verification that your oil/oil change intervals caused the problem. On top of that, AMSOIL provides you with a full warranty if you follow their recommendations. Lastly, if you have historical oil analysis reports for an engine that experiences a problem, the reports are the best evidence of the previous condition of the engine. Much better than just showing that you changed the oil on a certain schedule.

    i want a bypass system, but amsoil is charging 45-65 for another bypass filter. If the filter was cheaper i would go with them or if there was an alternative. But there isn't. So im looking at Frantz. anyone else got any advice.

    • @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
      @Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend you focus on cost over time instead of price. The AMSOIL bypass filters are rated for between 60-80k miles (depending on size of filter used), and this is much longer than other bypass filters on the market. Prices for Preferred Customers are between $32-40, which is also very competitive to other bypass filter elements. Lastly, the AMSOIL bypass filter is rated at 98.7% efficient at 2 microns, and over 50% efficient at 1 micron.

    Or, you can just change the oil as per OE recommend... seeing as we had IDI motors 30 years ago that then even with junk oils made 500k... +
    Remember that filter does not remove fuel contamination, etc... you are hoping the oil can do it and then you are admittedly spending $30/12k miles to make sure the oil can keep going.
    And all those prices are with the scam pricing... the point of that sub is to keep you buying the stuff because you already "paid" for it it's a mental way to lock you in.
    What did spot run? did spot need all this stuff to make almost a million miles? I am thinking no... so why are these cleaner burning trucks going to need all this aftermarket junk?
    Also please keep in mind that "certified lubrication specialist" is a made up thing... pretty much means you took a 3 day course...

  • @Seveneleven44
    @Seveneleven44 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve changed the oil in my 2011 and ‘15 6.7’s at 5,000 miles religiously. Regardless of what the computer determines when I should change it. 5,000 miles between changes and that’s it. No way would I ever let it go over that many miles, regardless of the marketing wank you hear from specialty oil companies. I haven’t had any problems with motorcraft oil filters in 15 years of using them. I’ve never had issues related to oil, or oil changes. I look at this specialty oil craze the same I look at people and their craft beer, phones or specialty sodas. If that’s what tickles your fancy, then by all means. To me, it’s just a ploy to get you to buy more shit from the AMSOIL guy or what have you. Oil test kits. Filters, oil, funnels, oil additives...list is a day long. My family has operated a garbage and recycling business for 35 years and we change oil in small equipment at 5000 miles, oil in medium sized equipment at 400 hours and the oil in our class 8 trucks at 12,000 miles. Never had issues.
    Granted, I’ve never used the “specialty” oil, but I can’t imagine it holds up any longer than Rotella t6 or delo, especially running roll off trucks. Those engines, especially with any truck with a PTO on it gets worked harder, I know our trucks do. That amsoil or any other specialty oil gonna last as long as stated? Do they really mean extreme duty? I’m not trying to bash any specialty oil guys, but for us, the speciality oil never crossed my mind to use, and we have salesman come for all kinds of equipment all the time. I’d be interested to know if anyone out there is really running AMSOIL or the like in a roll off truck, or a truck with a lot of PTO time on the engine. If you work that engine, what’s the point in spending extra money on specialty oil? Do you really get that much more life out of the oil? I’d need to see hard evidence from a guy who has seat time in a truck and turns a little wrenches.
