Thank you, Swami-ji. A few years ago I wanted to read the Brahma Sutras because I was interested in the idea of understanding seemingly contradictory statements in Vedanta. I bought a copy, The Vedanta-Sutras - Badarayana and Madhava, and I just couldn't get through more than a couple of pages. It was super dry for me. I don't know if it's supposed to be this way or not. Anyway, I guess other scripture does enough for me, that I don't really have to read through it. :) 🙏
Dear Swamiji, I have a different opinion about the comment you made about Fourier Transform. With Masters in Electronics and Computer Science, I have worked in IT industry for 4 decades. During my career, I used Fourier Transform in various projects for about 10 years. Fourier Transform is a tool for transformation between Time and Frequency domains. The same Fourier Transform is used for transformation between space and frequency domains (image processing). For everything we hear and see, there is an equivalent representation in Frequency domain. Frequency domain is like Brahman, which is unified and cannot be perceived by normal human beings. We use instruments like Spectrum analyzer to examine time series data in the frequency domain. Similar to Fourier transform, all mathematical algorithms are used by practicing engineers and scientists during their career.
Advaita Vedanta can be known from Brahma Vidya, the study of Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Puranas. The Upanishads are some of the primary source of Shravana (scripture) for advaitans. The knowledge from the Upanishads is subtle and easily mis-translated. Consult Swami Tadatmananda or other well-studied teachers for translation (Hint: Maya is not 'illusion', it is the creative force wielded by Ishvara to present this world to your senses). Here is an example of an Upanishad addressing the topic of death: The seer (Atman, Self) is not born, nor does he die, He does not originate from anybody, nor does he become anybody, Eternal, ancient one, he remains eternal, he is not killed, even though the body is killed. - Katha Upanishad
In the destroying of the mind and such, to me this sounds cruel, the word I find more accurate is in the subsiding of the mind. The agent of being, subsides to its real being. The atman within is Brahman without, thee essence of One.
There is a destruction of sorts involved. What is more accurate is the destruction of the ignorance that imposed the belief that “I” am this body mind. Since it is a part of the mind that is becoming stabilized in this realization, by removal of ignorance of mind, therefore the use of that violent sounding term.

This was a rather superficial session. If this is all one had to go by, you’d say Swami ji is not really well versed in Advaita Vedanta.
