It was the summer of 1976 and I was waiting for my girlfriend. She was late in the afternoon. I put on this record. Memories filled my eyes.....this became my favourite track on that album. I still remember and visualise her whenever I hear this track. Thanks very much, Bob James.
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who liked this jazz music in the 70s and 80. This track was my favourite in the BJ Three album. Eric Gale and Bob James were at their very best in this track. I have played it about four times today. This is how good music sounds.
I was 12 years old when I was sneaking in my dad's jazz albums 46 years ago and I loved this song. I just listened to it again with headphones on and it is my favorite song ever. Beautiful music
Greetings from a 69yr old fart from over in South Africa, your Dad had good music taste, and he gave you a wonderful music education, and agree with you, beautiful music, still won of personal favorites of all time, enjoy the musical journey, food for the soul

I played this at my wedding in 1992 in my local church in Ireland and everyone was mezmorised by it. The acoustics of the old church made it even more magical and by the end everyone was tapping their feet and vibing along to it. Happy memories. Thank you Mr. James.
This song takes you to a place of peace. Thank you Bob James along with the rest of the great musicians playing on this beautiful peace of music. 🎶🎶🎶👏👏👏😘😘❤❤.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN 44 YEARS SINCE THIS CAME OUT. THAT WAS THE YEAR I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND I PLAYED THIS TOO DEATH. I STILL HAVE THIS ON VINYL
I graduated in 79 from High School I had this album in vinyl then in cassette then in my Sony Walkman CD player . I still get emotional when I hear it. Like the first time.
Out of the blue decided to play this album for the first time in years perhaps decades.Truly a fantastic album and had to run this song a second time. Simply a gem. I will not wait decades to replay this album.
Sublime cinematic magic, captured with the magic hands of Bob james+a host of great musicians.Beautiful,Dazzling,a true masterpiece of fusion from one of it's greatest.
This song brings back such wonderful memories for me. I was about 6 years old when this album was released. My mother played it all the time...she still has it! Even back then, being that young, l could appreciate the mastery of the album and this song. It always took me on a beautiful journey in my mind...still does.
I remember my Dad had this on Cassette Tape! He had this, the whole Spyro Gyra "Incognito" Album, which I think is a Jazz Classic, Maynard Ferguson's "Conquistador", "Mister Mellow", and "Theme From Rocky". I became a Jazz lover listening to these Classics!!!

Bob James - Keyboards (Solo), Producer, Arranger, Conductor Grover Washington, Jr. - Tin Whistle Eric Gale - Guitar (Solo) Gary King - Electric Bass Harvey Mason - Drums Ralph MacDonald - Percussion
It's makes me smile to see Grover Washington Jr. played on this song. My mother use to play it all the time when it was released. We also had Grover's album, Mister Magic as well. I remember these artists by thier album covers as well as thier great music. Albums, not CDs... I'm that old! 😂 😊
This song originally began as a poem back in the 1700s and was initially set to music in 1969 by Sean O'Riada, and initially gained traction when The Chieftains' 1973 version was featured in the 1975 film Barry Lyndon.
Right, O'Riada was the first person to set the original poem to music in 1969; both he and Moloney were members of the band Ceoltoiri Chualann. Moloney's group The Chieftains first recorded their rendition of the song for their fourth album The Chieftains 4 in 1973, their first with Derek Bell joining on harp and keyboards; their rendition of the tune was wildly successful after Stanley Kubrick used it in his 1975 film Barry Lyndon.
i thought this song was the soundtrack to a movie i think featuring robert redford...i want to suggest 3 days of the condor...might i suggest if you like this sound try dave grusins' theme to 3 days of the condor

I have been obsessed with Women of Ireland since I first heard it in the movie Barry Lyndon.
Yes; this song might not have been quite as popular were it not for that film using it.
Highly sensuous and melodic 👌

My favorite cut off my favorite album of the jazz fusion era. "Three" is Bob James at his very best. A timeless classic album.
First heard this piece around 1983 driving through the Pyrenees on a misty day. Still remember. Beautiful 🤩
This is one off a perfect album by Bob James.A master of keys, arranger, producer and songwriter.A Masterpiece.😎✌🏽
Agreed!
Its an ancient irish tune. The original is a poem written by Ulster poet Peadar Ó Doirnín (1704-1796)
Absolutely

Someone should inform Wikipedia that Eric Gale was not born on October 29, 1974 -- he would have been 2 years old for this session. He's good, but no one is THAT good.
Wikipedia is wrong more often than people realize. Born Sept. 30, 1938.
Actually, there are TWO guitarists with similar names Eric GALE (1938-1994) of Brooklyn, NY...and Eric GALES (Oct 29, 1974) of Memphis, TN.
Bob James wrote this song & it called for a tin whistle solo but he didn't know any until a player said he played one: Grover Washington Jr.
The same guy who duetted with Bill Withers on "Just the Two of Us" in 1980.
Bob James - Keyboards (Solo), Producer, Arranger, Conductor
Grover Washington, Jr. - Tin Whistle
Eric Gale - Guitar (Solo)
Gary King - Electric Bass
Harvey Mason - Drums
Ralph MacDonald - Percussion
That is what I call a lineup. All iconic artists.
It's makes me smile to see Grover Washington Jr. played on this song. My mother use to play it all the time when it was released. We also had Grover's album, Mister Magic as well. I remember these artists by thier album covers as well as thier great music. Albums, not CDs... I'm that old! 😂 😊
What a fabulous lineup.

I mean, every Irish woman should know this so they can realize what they are capable to inspire
Izzy loves cool instrumental music 🎸 🎶 💘 Enjoy 1974.

Un tema descomunal.

Beautiful song. But, I think Sean O'Riada and Paddy Moloney should have been mentioned at the very least.

せっかくボブが割と近くの金沢まで来てたのに、生活苦の金欠から、彼の金沢ライブのお金すら工面する事が出来なかった。非常に残念だった。
What on earth is a ‘Chrome Berk’ ? What a ridiculous advert !
