I was a 14 year old kid listening to the theme from the TV show "Taxi", and that when I immediately fell in love with Bob James's Music, and I 've been a loyal fan ever since 😅
It's been 45 years since I bought an LP Touchdown at "Nåsen in Øvre Årdal - I alternated between Van Der Graaf Generator :) and Bob James in those years - and there was a lot of American West Coast music :) Stanley Clarke, Q Jones and more
About 45 years ago I listened to Bob James' Touchdown every week because it was actually the title theme of a football highlight show from a broadcaster in Tokyo. Who now believes it featured Oklahoma Sooners!? While showing a condensed game the background was filled with Philadelphia soul music!
The iconic classical jazz of B.J. is phenomenal and I've listened for decades, especially touchdown and Bob James 4 is so smooth ,superb. The best goat non-lyrics easy-going in album that exists. Period. Nuf said. End of an era.
Before there was Mountain Dance album by the great Dave Grusin, there was Touch Down! This album is one of an elite few albums where the fast-forward or the next button is not required. Each track is superb. Thanks for this posting.
Brings back a lot of memories as I would play this record getting ready for junior high school in 1980. of course everyone in the US knew Angela as the Taxi theme, thanks for this share Drew!
The title track "Touchdown" was supposed to have been Taxi's title music, but that its funk-disco vibe did not quite fit in with the show's premise. Instead, it was "Angela" that became the title theme. Originally it was only to be used as background music in the show's third episode, "Blind Date," during the scene where Alex meets up with Angela Matusa (Suzanne Kent).
Loved this album. Must have played "Angela" and "Touchdown" I dont know how many times..I see in your notes that the late, great David Sandborn played on the 3rd song, but didnt he also have a solo on Touchdown? I always thought it was him. DAVID SANDBORN RIH
