    The first half of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    Although I'm not young(50) I've recently gotten very interested in woodworking and am starting to make a few modest items, I just wanted to say
    I find your videos very informative and enjoyable viewing, so thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and techniques, it's much appreciated.
    Cheers

    I started watching your videos last. I find them quite enjoyable and replete with information. I also like the fact you use basic carpentry tools and make your own jigs. No need to buy expensive tools and accessories. I am definitely going to take a crack at your bathroom vanity. I have been doing this for a while but your videos will help me refine my work. I do it for myself and my home but I still want it to look nice.
    Keep up the good work and i am looking forward to checking all your videos.

    Great project and more good hints. It sounds counter intuitive to sand across the grain, but you are exactly correct in that it helps to level out edge joined boards. I appreciate you and all the other "you tubers" that provide such excellent content. Happy Fathers day Jon.

    Great video Jon. My woodworking teacher at school always told me that the only thing I was good at making was sawdust ........... and he was right! I sucked. But at least I knew that I sucked. However, your videos Jon give me the confidence to tackle projects like this and at least my piles of sawdust now have something worthwhile to show for my effort. Keep up the good work buddy.

    Jon, I really like the way the shop is looking. I watched the 10 Jan 2014 video again and compared the back ground of that video with this current video. Maybe it is just your camera angles, but shop sure seems neater and more professional.

    thanks Jon, I really enjoy watching your videos, they give me great ideas as to how I would like to finish my own home.
    I do however have a question, why use the palm sander for the finer grits rather than the orbital sander? It was my understanding that the orbital sander does not leave any pattern marks thus making it more suitable for the final grits.
    thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

    • @MNhockeydude35
      @MNhockeydude35 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Francisco Schutte a light epoxy finish is about the only thing you are going to be able to use but know that you will end up with a high gloss finish, which I personally am not a fan of. I love woodworking but have always avoided wooden countertops for this reason. They look gorgeous when first finished but are subject to cracking, separating, and getting dinged up unless they are maintained very well, i.e. no kids.

It just seems like a lot of extra work to me to go through another set of biscuits, etc. Is there some advantage that I'm missing with your approach? Nice job and love the vids.

    As always - enjoyed watching this latest video. I did however, shudder in horror while watching you crosscut the second end of the countertop on your tablesaw. It should be pointed out to your audience (those with less experience) how dangerous and lethal it can be to trap a long (and narrow) piece of wood between the blade and the fence. It would have been much safer to use your track saw setup for both ends since you don't have a sliding table saw.
