- The world's greatest air race took place in October 1934 when a mix of private pilots and a professional crew from KLM raced from Mildenhall, near London, to Melbourne Australia. To commemorate this event private pilots gathered at Cotswold Airport, the old RAF Kemble, previously home to the Red Arrows, to fly in formation in their memory. However it was more than just a memory becuase the after dinner speech was given by C.W.A Scott's grandson. Scott won the race in the bright red DH88 Comet in the record time of less than 3 days. But also present were Tim Williams and Henry Labouchere who recounted their adventures of flying the route for the 50th anniversary of the race. They flew in Tim's DH80 Puss Moth, exactly the same type flown by 21year old Jimmy Melville in the 1934 race.
