Heritage needs to be remembered and preserved, not relegated to a museum. I personally have gotten more out of flying vintage gliders than i have flying the new glass stuff. The cost is worth it in my opinion. My most memorable flight to date was flying a 50's Hall Cherokee and convincingly out performing more modern gliders in thermals. Great fun.
A lovely plane, I trained and flew my first solo in one and had many memorable flights in K13s after that. It feels altogether more 'elemental' than high performance glass ships: a plane for being 'in the moment' rather than pushing to get somewhere (though at 28:1 it can get you places, and in a fun way, esp on light wind days)
