  • My evolved workflow for scanning with Vuescan that capture as much image information as possible for manipulation later. The first half goes through the Vuescan menus. The second half explains how to use Photoshop (Elements) to get the scan into viewable shape.

If you first convert your background layer into a Smart Object, then you can do sharpening as a non-destructive operation that becomes "attached" to the layer.

Wow, there sure is a lot of combing when you work with the 8-bit file.

When I preview and also scan my B&W negs they look well on the scanner screen, but when I open the saved tiff file in photoshop and invert, they are VERY over exposed. What am I doing wrong?

I am sorry but I am travelling and don’t have access to my PC or scanner to help you right now. I might be available in late Sept.

What kind of image is that? It would have been far more appealing and interesting if you had an image of a person, something we can all easily relate to.
