Been living in Chelsea for 3 years now. Just went out and got my first rod and tackle kit all because of you guys this week! Thanks for the cracking videos!
I have never seen a gar that pretty . Alabama River monster garfish I've seen them over 8ft years ago but that is rair . Big like 👍 on your fish 🐟 show
Good stuff mate. Good to see your girl getting into it. I was up for some winter fishing this week but now we have lockdown. Good to see you Melb peeps able to go after such a long wait. cheers.
Thanks Victor, yeah its awesome to get the family involved. Sorry to hear you in lockdown, down here we have been through multiple lockdowns some that lasted months. Hopefully you guys will be back out very soon. Than you can get back into some winter fishing
Brought back memories watching that mate. I used to love fishing the piers back in the day. Those gars were good size and fantastic to see your daughter enjoying herself. Pretty good in front of the camera too. I'd like to see a cooking video for them too, as I don't think I've ever eaten them.
Thanks Darren, yeah sometimes the most simple forms of fishing can be the most enjoyable, especially when with friends and family. I love catching fish but get an extra level of satisfaction watching my kids catch them. Yeah I think a catch and cook of them would be a good idea as they are an excellent eating fish and some simple ways to prepare them.
Thanks 👍 Im really glad your enjoying the content on the channel !! It was a great season for the gars some good sizes ones about too. Hopefully you can crack that 30cm mark really soon. have a great day
nice to see local content Alan, realised newish fishing platform and location. Also this action is also possible off Limeburners boat ramp rock wall. Look forward to cooking ideas. well done mate
this is basically what roach fishing in freshwater is, that's perfect. I have a soft 4m telescopic bolognese rod thats meant for bream, roach and coarse fish. This the perfect size fish and the feeding is familiar too.
Epic as always Alan!! Is there a time of day that’s better in the winter or is the burley enough to bring them in? Also, do you have a bait and tackle shop in the area you recommend?
Thanks !!! I prefer on the rising tide for gars as your fishing in shallow areas I think it helps them come in close. This session was mid tide but still produced good results. For local fishing shops you have either hooked on bait and tackle, trellys, and the big retailers like bcf and annaconda. If your after something specific let me know i may have some links. Cheers
@@fishingmad thanks for the response! At the moment just after the little stuff like the pencil floats and burley mixes - wanted to take the kids on Friday to Mordialloc to cap off the school holidays - this looked like so much fun!
Thanks for adding this clip. I mostly fish land based. I really like to go for Garfish sometimes, but being in the Western Suburbs it is not so good location-wise. There are plenty of options for Bream and other species I like to target but I hardly ever hear of Garfish being around. It seems that you need to cross the bridge to the affluent side of the bay and the piers along there, or head to Geelong to be in for a chance. While some folks reckon there are Garfish at Williamstown, I've never been able to locate any at a few spots around there, and never see anyone fishing for them specifically. I've wondered about Altona pier but never see anyone fishing for them, and don't really notice them around there either.
Thanks Matt, you make some great points here. It certainly seems to target gars around Melbourne that you need to venture up the Mornington Peninsula or Bellarine Peninsula. I remember years back watching to old blokes catch them in good numbers near the footy oval at Williamstown and have also caught them of Kerferd road pier and princess pier. ill prob do a bit of trial and error on some spots closer to Melb and see if I can find some reliable locations that don't require an hours travel.
Hi ben, read this document which I have put together fishingmad.com.au/article/how-to-catch-garfish-around-melbourne. The bottom of the article covers all the best spots to target gars around Melbourne
As someone who is literally just starting to to watch these videos, it would be awesome if you could give some location details. Obviously I get that anglers tend to protect their hot spots, but maybe occasionally letting a location slip would be awesome. Great videos by the way - working my way through the channel. As an edit, what I mean by just starting to watch these videos, I actually mean just starting to consider fishing as a pastime.
Hi Eddie have a read of this article fishingmad.com.au/article/how-to-catch-garfish-around-melbourne there are over 20 location suggestions. Also check out the Fishingmad website which has 200 fishing locations detailed fishingmad.com.au/locations hope that helps
mate don't need that much stuff for catch garfish plus waste your time , if you like i can told you how to catch garfish in easy way more than 20 ,30 for one person per one trip

Fantastic! Memories of gar fishing at Mordialloc pier . During the school holidays.
Thanks David, yeah this simple style of fishing is something that takes us all back to local pier fishing which is awesome.

Thanks Jared, yeah its a simple yet really fun form of fishing.
Thanks and really appreciate all your excellent work
We used to catch soo many Everytime we went out years ago then went Draper and used it for bait. Always caught something big with them
Yeah you find them in massive numbers and also make a very good bait
Where were you fishing at witch area ?
Not many fishing experiences better than garfish on light tackle. 😀👍
I totally agree! Thanks Damian
i love float fishing good one allan!!!!
Thank you Angelo !! Its simple yet so much fun this style of fishing
So happy just got a 2014 hobie outback first kayak
Congratulations, the hobie outback's are excellent kayaks. Many exciting times ahead for you that's for sure.
So if you have to choose between pro angler 14 and outback, which one to choose?
Pro Angler its the best fishing kayak. Unparalleled storage and stability. Only downside is its bigger and heavier.
Looks great fun mate! I like the cooking lesson 😂
Yeah maybe i should do that next as they are a delicious fish to eat, and there are a few simple ways to clean and cook them
Awesome video Alan cheers 🎣🎣🎣🎣👍
Thanks Joe !!
Nice one Alan, can’t wait to try your burley recipe (with cat food).
Hope to get a few gars as well this season.
LOL yeah the cat food is genius. Its a great time of year to target them, hopefully some helpful tips in this vid for you.
Great Video mate going to have a crack of the rocks in Mount Martha soon for some Gars.
Awesome, thats prob my favourite fishing location in all of Melbourne, Great for Gars but also snapper, squid and whiting
@@fishingmad great spot

Also add a tin of tuna to mix,
The juices soak in and tuna piece are good.

Awesome, I hope you enjoy it. Please let us know what you think after watching it.
@@fishingmad this was a really good episode, i would love to see you buy a really ultra light rod and see what you can catch!
Ive got plenty of ultra light rods, perhaps i should use it to target something big next time im out
@@fishingmad yes that would be a fun entertaining episode
ill work on something soon. Maybe my 1-3 k bream rod chasing gummy sharks LOL
They look like ballyhoo bait fish used for marlin and swordfish here in the US.
Epic as always Alan!!

@@fishingmad awesome mate. Massive help. How I see you out on the water.
Glad to hear it, Even through its cold you can still catch pinkies now but wait a few months and they will really fire up again
what about 'chum'? a ground up baitfish that's thawing in a sock. should work and wouldn't cost a dime
where is this does any none knows?
Why you don’t tell us about the place
Where is this mate. I want to take kids
Hi Alan nice day for you and your Daughter
Location please???
Hope it works, or you’ll get prosecuted for that pollution mix😂😂😂😂😂😂
