Man it always takes me back when I hear about Kimbo. Just like a lot of people, I used to watch his videos on yt when I was 15 on my old ipod lol Was about 11 years ago. I can honestly say, he's the one that got my foot into the door of being a combat sports fan.
Same here, I'm 30 and when I was 16-17 those videos were great.
Side note: everyone likes to say they've watched Masvidal since the backyard fight days, but let's be real. None of us realized he was "ponytail" until a decade later.

The problem with star athletes from other sports taking up MMA is that they’ll always be way past their athletic prime. Even pro wrestlers rarely enter MMA until after their career has started to wind down (which is usually way into their 40s)

I'm surprised you didn't mention the reason why Yuji Nagata ended fighting both prime Crocop and Fedor, it was because of Antonio Inoki the Japanese wrestling legend who had that infamous bout with Muhammad Ali and who was still head of New Japan Pro Wrestling at the time, he had this obsession of proving pro wrestlers were the strongest fighters around. So when MMA became big business in Japan, he decided to throw some of his wrestlers into the MMA ring with Nagata one of his big stars being the one thrown to the sharks. All the NJPW talent who took part in those fights, only Shinsuke Nakamura (yes the same Nakamura who's in the WWE right now) had better success, with a 3-1-1 record.
Inokiism: exhibit G of why pro wrestling is predetermined.
The UFC signed Mike Jackson with a 0-0 pro record coming off a 0-1 record as an amateur. Just to hopefully give CM Punk an easy win? He's coming back in 2021 to fight a new guy signed to the UFC with a 3-1 record. Why?

I think CM Punk's embarrassing performances in the UFC have actually taken away from the impact his return to wrestling could have. Even though we all know wrestling is fake, it will be really hard to keep your suspension of disbelief after watching those two fights 😂
I wholeheartedly disagree. A lot of people are dying to see him come back, despite him being in his 40's and having a bad relationship with WWE. He hasn't shut down a return completely, but that little bit of hope is a bigger deal than you think.
Knowing pro-wrestling is fake, I was even questioning him in WWE with his muscle-less fat middleweight body against monster heavyweights, like "WTF is this guy doing here". :))

Yuji Nagata was a national champion amateur wrestler, more than just a guy with "some ammy wrestling background in his youth." He also competed in the World Cup and in the World championships, as well as the Asian Games. Give the man a little more credit.

Skills from one sport don't just transfer over to another. Yes, your Body, Stamina and even Power might transfer but just cause you may have been 'good' in one sport doesn't mean you would be 'good' in another.

I trained with CM Punk at Rofusport. He is a great guy but I am a featherweight blue belt and tapped him at will in BJJ. He trained Muay Thai there too. Hard working and amazing guy, just joined the sport too late.

Yes, back in the day New Japan was in the period tjay is now called Inokiism: Antonio Inoki wanted to book his wrestlers in MMA fights and would push them if they won and bury them if they lost. This resulted in Nagata sliding down the card in favor of people like newcomer Shinsuke Nakamura, big stiff Bob Sapp, Brock "can't be bothered to show up on your card" Lesnar and another legit tough guy that people care about so little, I completely forgot his name.
I started laughing uncontrollably at the number 1 fight because i watched it and the narration was totally on point. 😂😭
