"Queens' origin story begins with another band. Homme first emerged from Palm Desert in a band called Kyuss, a relentless hard-rock act that languished in obscurity in the waning days of synthetic hair metal. Dave Grohl first saw Kyuss when he was living in Seattle as a member of Nirvana, after getting a tip to check them out at the Off Ramp Café. What Grohl found there was a band of shaggy desert misfits, and guitarist-songwriter Homme, just 19. "Josh looked like this baby-faced giant with a baseball hat on backwards," Grohl remembers. At the time, the newest Kyuss album was 1992's Blues for the Red Sun, and their live set of weird metal and wild instrumental tangents instantly converted Grohl to the cause. Soon he was buying multiple copies of the album and sharing the discovery. He gave a copy to Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and even told Kurt Cobain that this was what the next Nirvana album should sound like. "And he said, 'Really? You think so?' " Grohl says with a laugh."
We flew out from Canada to see Kyuss LIves in Milan, Athens and Frankfurt and it was worth every freakin' penny! This message was brought to you by another Kyuss fan for life, from the first day to the last.
+Annas_Mojo When I was watching one of old Mad Max movies, I think it was one of the scenes with the interceptor on the road on speed, I thought how cool it would be if this was playing all along.
I just got my ticket to the KYUSS gig in Melbourne next year! I seriously cannot believe that i am finally going to see the band that i have worshipped ever since i was a little curly haired f*ck face smoking spliffs by the camp fire, fatting my pants over the magical riffs and superb brilliance of their music! I have day-dreamed about this moment for f*cking years! Muchas Gracias!
Well shit man, HOW WAS IT?! DID IT ACTUALLY HAPPEN? After Homme put the carbash on the whole calling it KYUSS or KYUSS LIVES? I can't quite remember, just that I got totally hosed outta going by my fw'AWKIN boss at the time. Seems like that's about the time Vista Chino surfaced?
After 15 years of waiting i got the chance to watch Garcia plays Kyuss and also Kyuss lives! it was a dream come true !! probably one of the best gigs i have ever been too where all the people were singing the songs and having a good time, you could smell the weed all over the place just as a real rock gig should be...long live Kyuss and long live rock n roll !!
Seen Kyuss Lives! June 22 in Oporto, Portugal with Oliveri, Bjork, Garcia and Fevery...all the show was simply amazing, they completely blew the place apart and people went total nuts. Opened up with crusher "Spaceship Landing" followed by "Gardenia"..."Whitewater" and "El Rodeo" were magic moments. Absolutely recommended. Perfect concert, even without Homme...Fevery does an amazing job, kudos and respect to him. Hail Kyuss forever.
They played this song to end their gig at Powerstation in Auckland, New Zealand tonight - was the best song - and the awesomest concert I have seen in years - thank you Kyuss :)
I saw Kyuss in june in Bordeaux (France). Probably the best fuckin concert I've ever been to ! A hot room for a warm music, stoned as hell ! All the more intense as John Garcia smoked the joint I gave him during the show, i'll probably tell my future sons and grandsons about this, when good music will be over !
Saw Kyuss Lives last night in Kentish Town, London. Best rock gig I have EVER been to. With or without Josh Homme, they are mindblowing live. The new guitarist more than fills his boots. Unbelievable night!
saw KYUSS LIVES! in Dallas..it was one of the most BAD ASS shows I have EVER seen!! They sounded soooo good. I didnt want it to ever end. DO NOT MISS THEM IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO GO!
Great song, the riff gets me every time. Can't say how often I've listened to it in my car, has to be loud, always great. One of the best, perhaps the best song from kyuss. And the video is very cool, too. I think it shows what this kind of music is all about. Feel the riffs in your stomach, feel those goosebumps on your skin, just feel free ...
Thanks to Kyuss for that song !!! I sang it on Wacken 2013 with Victims of Madness . It was the first time for me, on such a big stage !!! It was awsome ! Great song !!! Thank you
Saw them 2 months ago. And Garcia Plays Kyuss last year, twice. PURE FUCKIN' AWESOMENESS!!! There are no words to describe how I happy I am that they are back!
Saw Kyuss lives! @ wacken 2011 They sounded great and held an awsome show. Best night of the summer. Having Scott Reeder playing the show was a huge bonus, no disrespect to Nick Oliveri. Left me craving for more!
Skwisgaar Skwigelf It is stoner though :P. This, however, does not rob it from the fact that its desert rock, KYUSS is a part of the palm desert scene and therefor count as desert rock but they're still stoner rock. Its certainly not doom though, doom is stuff like sabbath and I wouldn't count stoner doom as a genre on its own with it being so close to stoner with it already heavily influenced by doom and all. And the both band you mentioned are stoner metal, not stoner rock. Sure the might have made something more doom inspired or closer to stoner rock but they're still stoner metal.
I used to listen to this song in my car on cassette in the early nineties. It is definitely an excellent driving song. I caught Kyuss live in Chicago shortly after the release of this album. I think they were opening for Bad Brains. I don't think anyone in the audience knew of Kyuss at that show.
Saw Kyuss lives at the eurockéennes in Belfort (France) and the kicked ass like crazy. They played in front of a crowd of hardcore fans of Kyuss and this concert was just AMAZING.
i just saw kyuss lives 2 days ago on chile.... one of the best concert i have ever seen... amazing just amzing seen garcia w olivery singing rodeo together was sooo amazig gamazing show
That's exactly what those cool and crazy Italianos told us in Milan! Thanks! I would recommend doing the same to anyone who loves Kyuss and has only seen them in either the U.S. or Canada because it doesn't compare to the vibe in europe!
Saw them in Toronto Friday. They sounded just like this only LOUDER! Was really surprised how good his singing was even to the last song...must be hard on the pipes. Played this song for an encore.
Thanks for the post fuzzjunky!! I still have remnants of this c.d. and case. Bought this shiznit when I was 18 and Kyuss still had that new car smell. :o)
I just finished listening to their whole catalogue. And first thing I have to say is great musicianship. And I love their signature sound which is driven with excellent and heavy low end bass and fuzz.I would say they have combined elements from Primus,Jane's Addiction, Deftones and Black Sabbath.
Saw Kyuss Lives six months ago. It was tight, It was thick. It was Kyuss. Just awesome. I'm not a Homme fan but he was the biggest writer for Kyuss so I respect him very much. Kyuss Lives isn't Kyuss without him. But they sure rock your socks off.
Oh Dude, you must have convinced some retarded fawking wank to go ahead and delete his or her comments baecause I ain't seen a NOT A ONE ugly snarky ounce of disrespect or otherwise ANYTHING OTHER THAN utterly enthusiastic and greatful praise to the almighty KYUSS IN ANY of these coments. Not a one. Good on you Brotha for not encouraging anyone's shittiness! Thanx for your patriotism to one this country's GREATEST creations! DRINK! SMOKE!! FRY!!! HEY, SKOL!!!!

I've got a wheel inside my head
A wheel of understanding
I'm a-loading, loading my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The break-down scheme
I'm a-shutting down
I'm shutting down your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, I gotta do
I see little flowers at my feet
Cool breeze, clean air, hospitality
Pretty please, pretty please, pretty please
Get the hell away from me
I'm a-loading, loading my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The break-down scheme
I'm a-shutting down
I'm shutting down your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, I gotta do
I've got a war inside my head
It's got to set your soul free
I've got a wheel inside my head
Well, a wheel of understanding
I'm a-loading, loading my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The break-down scheme
I'm a-shutting down
I'm shutting down your greed for green baby
I am here to gun it down, I gotta do

Everything's too blurry when I'm high to tell the difference anyway.

This is the first time I've listened to this band. Very cool tune here. Heavy, yet laid back.
Michael C. Hall brought me here (from his reddit AMA).
Never heard this band before. I can dig it
Josh homme before qotsa
jackelracer593 A quarter oz. of Kush and a desire for kick ass Desert Scene music brought me here!
jackelracer593 Masters before Reality.

Just came back from Watching Mad Max and this was playing in my head during the action sequences.
+Annas_Mojo When I was watching one of old Mad Max movies, I think it was one of the scenes with the interceptor on the road on speed, I thought how cool it would be if this was playing all along.

Skwisgaar Skwigelf It is stoner though :P. This, however, does not rob it from the fact that its desert rock, KYUSS is a part of the palm desert scene and therefor count as desert rock but they're still stoner rock.
