  • With the recent surge of dip into the market, a lot of techs are wondering if they should offer dip instead of gel services. In today’s Biz Talk Habib and Tracey talk about which service works best for which clients and how you should incorporate these products into your business.

    “How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
    Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
    Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
    Welcome to the Young Nails family!

    I do my own nails at home and I use clear dip for strength, even over tips. It makes my weak nails so strong and I use whatever polish on top. It makes my nails just as strong as when I used to get acrylics but I don't have to sculpt. I can even use the resin application and create an apex

    I use conversion gel with dip powder and my clients love it! However, I do find that colors with darker pigments sometimes dont work well with the conversion gel as they dont cure but I have been doing a lighter dip application with a longer cure time and that seems to work. I do keep resin on hand just in case! 😉😉

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Right, often the darker colors have trouble curing because the pigmentation is so high the light has trouble penetrating the color so exactly what you said, thinner coats longer cure time should help.

    I'm with Tracey. I cannot handle the burning odor of resin. I will use Conversion Base w/ the clear SlickPour powder and sometimes even the clear acrylic powder. They both work very well. I can fill these instead of removing them completely. However, if clients want to use the Slickpour colors I have I def use Conversion. Educating people over and over about Dip is really getting old, lol. I've chosen to get rid of liquid powder bc there are so many options out there now. I wish more Nail Tech's cared more about educating clients on best nail habits.

    What about using a hard/builder gel as a base and then gel polish? Everyone in my area is obsessed with SNS. I convinced a few clients to try a hard gel as a base and they’ve been obsessed every since bc they last up to three to four weeks, while still looking brand new. Yes, if someone doesn’t like the lights, there’s no getting around it. I’m of course stubborn with dip haha love you guys!

    I do have dips powders yet but can use acrylic colored
    Powder for dip powders or is there a specific dip powder?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dip powder is ultra finely ground up acrylic, so dip can be used as acrylic but not the other way around because traditional acrylic doesn't absorb the same

    Thought I might try dip since I got an allergy after about 5 visits to a very “reputable “ salon. I asked all the questions I have learned fro. You guys because I didn’t want a nasty allergy since I don’t have allergies in other respects of my life. Well, I get the itching and discomfort so I am done with both dip and acrylic…tried both and have the allergy. So, would dip possibly be a problem? I probably will wear nothing after my experience, but just wondering. Is the allergy thing getting worse? I have two friends that now also have allergies.

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      We would recommend talking with your health care provider to find out exactly what it is you are allergy to. If it’s something in acrylic powder chances are you wouldn’t be able to use dip either as dip powder is a fiber acrylic powder.
      Once you know what it is you will be able to do your research to find out if gel polish or hard gel might be a better option for you if they don’t have what is causing the allergy in it.

    Most chop shops use a community jar for dip powder 🤢🤮. I suggest people not patron those kinds of businesses at all due to sanitation, but they want a cheap service. I'm located 20 minutes outside of nyc and dip nails are usually $35.
    Those who love chop shops should stick with gel polish. (I still suggest bringing your own files, nail clipper, cuticle oil, etc. and NEVER use their pedicure bowls!. But with all of that hassle just go to a quality salon. Lol) Those who do not mind paying a quality salon that places sanitation at the forefront of their business, get which service will be best for your nails. #teamyn

    I've recently been playing around with powder/gel polish (either base coat for strength or builder gel for repairs) and have had so much success with it. I've not had anyone who is so resistant to lamps that they won't heed a bit of education, so lamp use has not been an issue. I'm, however, not the biggest fan of buying so many colored acrylics when the salon already has a ton of gel colors, so the addition of powder to the service has been a great way to add revenue.

    • @michie826
      @michie826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tatamdavidson115 Sure. For reference, I use a pour-over method with YN Speed Clear and Gelish Foundation, which is a thicker base coat.
      Simply apply the base coat as usual, making sure none is on the surrounding skin. Then pour the acrylic powder onto the nails, tap off the excess and cure as usual. Same process on the other hand.
      Take first hand out of the lamp and dust excess powder off. You can also use a fine buffer now to refine the shape or smooth the top, careful not to thin the product.
      Continue with the desired color as you would a gel mani. Seal with top coat. That's it.
      You can also use this method to mend cracks, using the powder cured into the base coat or structure gel, depending on how much reinforcement the client needs.

    I wanted to try dip at home, but I'm not confident about inhaling the powder and all the buffing involved. I watched a tutorial that took 30 minutes for one hand! What about both hands and toes? That would take forever for me to do. I will just stick with nothing, natural nails, for now, lol!

    Love learning from you both, your videos are very educational especially for a beginner as myself! Would love to see a demonstration video of the dip from you guys. It’s something I myself am starting out using and I seem to struggle a bit with it. Hello Gucci what a cutie! 🥰

    I have never used dip powder before, they say it’s better for your nails & last longer. I don’t like the electric files on my nails.

    How come Gucci doesn't have his/her nails polished? It's a thing. And with those white feet it would look adorable. 🙂

    Dip exploded coz of marketing towards the consumer not nail techs... but how can people honestly think dip powder is better for nails from a chemical side 🧐🧐🧐 if nails are weak gel is always a softer option, if nails are good quality gel polish is a good option.. i dont see any situation where dip is the best option 🙈🙈🙈

    I've used a clear gel base coat, cured it, then used a fine acrylic powder tipped over the inhibition layer then repeated a couple of times on weak natural nails, then put a topcoat on afterwards. It works quite well & lasts a good three weeks. I have painted the nails with nail polish before using the topcoat too. I like to experiment with different products & push the boundaries. I try them all out on myself & not the client's though. 😊💅💖

    She’s a little annoying with the way she answers your questions. It’s like she’s scared to commit to an answer. Spit it out already because we all want to know and tell us the pros and cons of both
