Fingers off the caps key. But seriously, all it is. S'why I can get it 'cheaper by just getting acrylic powder and super glue (well, gorilla glue - longer wear and takes more damage). If you want it 'finer'...dust it in your coffee grinder.
It's literally a buck for each. If I want to go crazy, I get born pretty's chameleon as a 'colour' coat.

You guys took the words right out of my mouth! I always appreciate how honest you are. I hate these buzzwords that are being used for dip powder nowadays. I don't dislike the product, but its frustrating how far some companies/salons will go to mislead their clients.

How do they NOT believe you?! It's something you work with! I knew this just by touch and feel. Yes, it's lighter, but that's only because it's been finer milled, you can do that with 'normal' acrylic by dusting it yourself in a grinder.

MMA is illegal in many states. It’s not a good adherence to the nail plate, it will not soak off requiring prying off or other damaging forceful removal, it will break the nail plate before it will crack resulting in potential major injuries, and the FDA doesn’t recommend it for nail application. It’s a subpar product to EMA in every way!

    • @michie826
      @michie826 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

This was a fantastic Biz Talk!!! I love that you have addressed this.
I think the marketing ploy that some companies use when it comes to their products is completely unfair to the unknowing consumer.
And it is for this reason, as well as the hundreds of thousands of Techs out there who are not doing the job of a Nail Tech properly, that some consumers think it is unhealthy to have enhancements. When, we know, that it's not the enhancement, or necessarily the product, but the Tech who will be providing you a healthy, properly done service.
I still have to explain this to some friends and family members who think that Acrylic is bad for your nails, or that gel is better...it's frustrating, at times, for sure.

I'm not seeing people confused about it on Instagram I'm seeing people BASHING it bc if how "unsanitary" it is.. but I'm not understanding why people are thinking it's bad and unsanitary bc if your a great tech your clients hands should be 100% clean and sanitized before the processes even starts! So if your sticking a sanitized finger in a jar there should be no germs or anything for that matter that's on the finger that would contaminated the entire container.. so I'm very confused on why there is soooo much hate and bashing on Instagram about using dip powders on how unsanitary it is to use.. thank you for sharing guys 😁
P.s I've also seen big names techs bash it.. I've also seen comments from lower nails techs on the big wigs post saying stuff like that use dip but they have gone threw great lengths to use it for sanitary purposes like having a container for each client with there names on it so no cross contamination happens. . It's crazy the stuff I seen on IG especially gross pictures bc of dip powder when it's probably not.. sorry for the long message lol

    • @demijones9612

I loved this video! What you guys have said in this video is what I am telling my clients constantly! Any nail treatment you get is healthy it’s just down to the tech that’s doing the treatment whether they are trained enough and knows what they are doing. I live in the uk and clients constantly live in fear over the electric file.. because MANY nail salons in the UK use MMA which means the majority of the time they use an electric file and file the clients nails right down until it’s as thin as paper (which obviously is extremely bad) but people go to these salons because they are cheap and quick but then they end up blaming acrylic entirely on why their nails are ‘ruined’ as they say. It’s a constant fight that we have to go through.

I've been shouting about this forever since a certain brand flooded the market in chop shop salons with dip powder.
And if you label something as organic, if we want to get technical here, everything is organic as it's made from carbon! Your plastic tips are organic too because you guessed it, they contain carbon on a molecular level .
I don't like how they mislead the market & dupe people into thinking the product is better for you, when it isn't.
Like mentioned, it's acrylic powder & super glue.
I would even argue to say that it is worse for you as longer nails require structure & balance. You can't achieve that properly with dip powders. Also the removal process. It's better for your nails if a trained tech files off product rather than your fingers sitting in acetone for 10-15minutes each time.
I'm so passionate about educating people so that they can make informed decisions, and also understand why i charge what i charge. I know my stuff & i use top notch product with a great understanding of it.
    End rant haha

Yes, because you can transfer bacteria. Even at home I do a pour over (mostly because I get tiny ass jars off Wish and my finger does NOT fit into those), but if I were to do a friend, I also wouldn't want to spread anything I may have picked up without knowing it. ALWAYS pour over or walk. If they're doing that, who knows what else they're doing.

      I always:
      - Use sand bit, gentally prep the nails first. Shape them into the shape that the customer desires
      - Let the customer wash their hands with soap
      - Clean them again with alcohol, nip all the hang nails & lose cuticle that I missed with sand bit. By this time, all the nails should be dried.
      - Apply dip powder
      ==> results: clean & sanitize🌺

I already knew that dip is acrylic but I think this video will be an eye opener for a lot of people. What is interesting to note is that not all manufacturers recommend that their dips be used with monomer. In fact, aside from YN I only know of a couple of brands that have been transparent on the subject. While I do believe some companies are afraid they will make less money by educating techs, it seems that some manufacturers balso use less than quality ingredients that simply don't seem to hold up to use with monomer or gel. Slickpour really is like butter, it goes on smooth and is very pigmented. Slickpour covers beautifully, while some dip powders seem grainy when used with mononmer and are hard to even out. I am a total fan of Slickpour and appreciate that you all are transparent about your products.

carmen m Fernandez MMA = methyl-methacrylate, which I believe is dental acrylic, right?
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl_methacrylate
      Is MMA acrylic illegal?
This acrylic product is illegal when being used on the nails, it can cause permanent loss and damage of the natural nail, as well as numbness in the fingers. ... MMA has been BANNED in the nail industry for over 20 years but is still being used because it is cheap!
      Environmental issues and health hazards
      Edit
In terms of the acute toxicity of methyl methacrylate, the LD50 is 7-10 g/kg (oral, rat). It is an irritant to the eyes and can cause blindness.[4] Irritation of the skin, eye, and nasal cavity has been observed in rodents and rabbits exposed to relatively high concentrations of methyl methacrylate. Methyl methacrylate is a mild skin irritant in humans and has the potential to induce skin sensitization in susceptible individuals.[12][13]
I developed contact dermatitis from hard gel that the small day spa I started my career at, so badly, that I had a horrible rash all over my fingers and arms! I had only an arm rest “dust extractor” which was basically useless imho. The tacky dispersion layer was “removed” with 99% alcohol. I was devastated, thinking that my new career that I loved, was over before it got started.
Kathi Rochemont personally told me that by using alcohol instead of Afterwipe (which I’m thinking is similar to youngnails Swipe) that there was an invisible layer of uncured gel in my nail dust. No wonder I had a rash!! Switched to Afterwipe and eventually my rash went away!
Thanks to top notch education from both youngnails & nailbasics and a KICKASS Timal dust extractor combined with a quiet Miele vacuum from Canadian Tire?
I can WEAR BLACK CLOTHING at my desk, not require me to wear a surgical mask (unless I have a brutal head cold ) & I’m still LOVING my career as a certified nail tech after 18 years.
Someday, pleeeeeeease SOMEDAY, Professional nail techs in Canada will finally become a RED SEAL CERTIFIED TRADE.
I fully intend to pass that test (written as well as practical) & I will have to be able to do acrylic, hard gel, & a zillion different techniques for nail art!
Ay yi yi, so much work but so much fun too!! 🥳

I now know for certain after gradually intensified allergic reactions, that I can't dip unless I'm outside, and even then, I'm masked and have my dusk collector on when filing. I have never had issues with any other kind of enhancement or builder including using various glues etc.

Sadly, it is the way of many marketing companies to stretch the truth, if not outright crack it into tiny fragments! Much of the confusion has been caused by dishonest marketing with the intent of charging much more for basic product and calling it something different. (I'm not putting YN in that bracket!) Add an 'organic' label and double or triple the price because much of the population will fall for it.

From what I see and understand, most nail systems are petroleum based. Petroleum is organic, it’s just not the fertilizer-free, hmo-free organic we think of when we go to the grocery stores. Then we manipulate it in a lab to get what we want from it. The problem is the manipulation of marketers trying to come up with the latest schtick to sell their product or make it seem better than everyone else’s which just can’t be the case. My humble opinion.

OK COUPLE QUESTIONS and COMMENTS HERE - PLEASE BARE WITH ME 😄😄 There's SO much hair flipping over dipping, my goodness!!
If (since) dips are acrylic, is it possible some aren't? Ha I know that sounds silly but I'm asking bc I've experimented with some from a handful of different brands and some (many) just don't work - like I might as well have added water and got out my paint brushes. Crazy pants.
Some brands claim on the box: "with vitamin E and calcium" or something to that extent. Is that really a bonus, like are we going to see better (healthier) results for long term use this way or is it just hype and the benefits are negligible?
You mentioned the glue/resin is cosmetic grade. Should folks only use what's marketed as "base" or will they be alright using nail glue or (crazy glue, gorilla glue, et al) as their base layering glue. I haven't done it personally but I've seen others do it and recommend it.
Resin is glue? I didn't think they were one and the same; it hadn't ever occurred to me.
When we pour dip powder, are we pouring the remainder back into the jar? If we've sanitized our hands (more than once from start to finish) then is the powder chemically enough (like the glue) to resist any minute germ-y stragglers that might've possibly survived the cleansing?
    I've forgotten the rest 😂😂
Disclaimer: I'm a super curious, nerds-out-on-the-details, observant DIYer with freakishly thin, slippery nails on a tight budget 👀🤓 💅🏼
I just got my first YOUNG NAILS order as I'm trying to re-teach myself to do my own acrylics. 😎
I've thought about becoming a nail tech but Indiana makes it stupid hard to become a nail tech, starting with having next to no schools but requiring a million hours of learning. Then, the schools that do exist won't let you JUST learn nails so you have to go through hair and skin and everything else so then it costs >/= $10,000!! 💀💀💀

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Sarah Vadas nope, basic rule of thumb is if there’s a powder involved it is an acrylic. Yes there is a risk of cross contaminating when dipping which is why you should dispose of the excess after each service, also why we pour rather than dip.

Sorry about my emoji cursing I just get so frustrated when a client argues with me regarding what acrylic is. Even high end salons will LIE , telling the client that what they’re getting is HARD GEL when they’re, in reality, getting ACRYLIC with a hard gel top coat! AND GLITTER!
    Kitty Blitz is magic.
    Just sayin'.
Just an FYI, regular acrylic powders don't get blown around as easily but maybe don't ask me how I know ok? This is why I generally keep to dipping, but yesterday my favorite drag queen's thumb hit bottom. I need to figure out how to do his nails without that issue.
The FDA regulates the term 'organic' for food, but not for cosmetics. I think this should change. The average consumer doesn't realize they're a C-based life form so they can't be expected to think in those terms.
I have had customers come in when I was in school and tell me some things their regular techs had told them, which I did not want to contradict, however, I was unable to provide the service. I love that I have another option for my clients.
But it can be blown around pretty easily, which is why I dip rather than pour.

Nothing you do, can change that. Yes, you can make it stronger or weaker by changing the keratin bonds in the nail, but the only LIVE part of your nails is deep in the nail matrix, doing it's thing and if you are thinking acrylic or dip or anything is screwing with that...you're applying it wrong (please don't shove acrylic into your nail matrix).
