    I sure do appreciate your openness and being truthful . I see what you are saying about when one mixes brands . The outcome won’t be known until it’s actually used and worn . Then the company can’t guarantee their product if it is used with another brand . At least we know one thing , the world won’t come to an end if people mix ! 🤣 Thanks for always being honest .

    Love this show, it’s soooo informative!! Would you consider the topic “how to handle a difficult client”? I see a lot of people on FB complain about clients and then a barrage of comment underneath of people encouraging them to “fire” them when it seems a bit extreme to me and the techs taking things too personally.

    I use YN core line exclusively; meaning swipe, protein bond, monomer and core powders. Only time I mix product is for colored acrylics.
    It works for me and I like the assurance of knowing my nails will likely not lift and I will not get product breakdown because I am using the same line through my preparation and basic acrylic application.

    I never mix brands when building a nail and I’ve only used 2 systems so far (YN of course is one of them), the only thing I might mix up is gel colour or nail polish to go on top of the finished nails! I have used the protein bond with the other system as well and never had a problem with it! But then again your products are amazing! 😊👍😘♥️
    P.S. you might not create an explosion by mixing brands but might expose yourself or a client to an unwanted reaction so it’s better to be safe than sorry (in my opinion)

    I am now a die hard Young Nails fan for many reasons. I have been using hard gel for about 10 years now. A few years ago I explored several different brands of hard gel just to see if anything new would be better for me and my clients. I began using a new brand at that time (A competitors, not YN). It has served me and my clients very well so I was a little apprehensive to try YN hard gel system but I bought the trial kit and it works just as well for my clients, even better, and I absolutely love working with it. I initially tried the YN gel polish products and accessories just to support you because of all the invaluable content you bring to us professional nail techs on a daily basis. So appreciate you. Very excited to be transitioning to even more YN products in the future.

    I have to say, I have done nails for 20+ years and I have used and mixed several different products to see what works like a chemist but truth be told that I have NEVER EVER seen any products that work as well as [YN] seriously hands down the best nail products. Other products when mixed create service breakdowns and lifting and just real problems that no one needs in their life. Y’all are really the ish and it’s about time someone took charge in this industry ❤️❤️❤️❤️💪🏽🙌🏽

    Your pitbull is adorable 😁. And I’ll just comment that in the UK your insurance is void if you mix systems (called sandwiching) because if anything happens you can’t say whether it was the gel, monomer or acrylic powder. It’s not professional to mix xx

      it's roughly a year later and I am revising my opinion. When it comes to structuring the nail, I no longer mix products. I was having issues of breakage that I thought were because of incorrect form and Apex placement but it wasn't, it was because I was mixing products that were building the structure. As soon as I stopped doing that, the issue halted. I now am using Young Nails exclusively for structuring the nails. Gel polish is another thing LOL.

    Could we say, that specially working with acrylics better keep one brand (protein, monomer, acrylic powders). Maybe after having the acrylic done, then we can apply nail polish from other brands.
    Make sure to use a professional brands with professional brands too.

    Former cosmetologist here. Rule of thumb for me: Joico color calls for Joico brand developer. Makeup has more leeway, but you really want to keep within the same quality range no matter the brand. As for nails rule of thumb is for instance using YN I would use the swipe, bond, l&p, all the way down to the YN polish and YN curing lamp. All systems have their products that work cohesive to their products and equipment during testing and quality control checks. The reasons against mixing is to prevent a massive chemical reaction or a service breakdown. Contact dermatitis or anaphylactic shock is real. I NEVER mix systems. The only thing that would vary is the brand of stones I used. Swarovski can go on top of any system.

    I'm glad y'all posted this. When I was in school, they told us not to mix products and didn't explain why at all. I try not to mix, that way I know where the problem is coming from. BUT, I've recently switched from kiara sky dip system to the yn conversion method. I couldn't afford to restock on all my dip colors so I'm having to go through my kiara sky colors and figure out what works, and what doesn't. So far, the kiara sky glitter dip colors do not work well with the conversion(they glitter appear more separated). I can't say if the other colors are working or not, because my client came back at 2 weeks with her 4 fingers all still on, but both thumbs peeled off(and I had already redone them once). So it's definitely trial and error.

    Habib, this is perhaps the lowest-key video I’ve watched of yours! But the tone suits the subject.
    I’m incredibly new to this side of the nail game (2 months?!) but was on the other side of the desk for many years. I could always tell when the products were cheap and when the techs had no choice in what they used. Invariably my nails would discolor, break, etc. from those salons. Eventually I had to stop getting my nails done because had to schedule long, exhausting afternoons, including 45+ minutes driving each way and health concerns like the risk of my (then recent, but now much more controlled) neuropathy making nail enhancements (at that time) dangerous to my nail beds. I spent the last 3 years hating my plain old nails and refusing go back to more local, lower-end salons. Part of the reason is the cheap, lower quality products they all seem to use. I’d rather buy my own products and learn how to enhance my own nails than ever be late to an appointment, get frustrated over the constant traffic, or cry again at a salon owner insisting that her tech painfully pop my tips off as I beg and insist on soaking them off. (I never won those types of battles, btw.) Buying better products to learn with and use on myself and my 3 daughters (my own personal guinea pigs) has been a terrific decision, including ensuring that I have all of the pieces of the puzzle, as it were, for the brands I’m using. My 2 daughters who were going to other techs are thrilled to stay home and let me learn, and I know that in just a few months I will have recouped all of my investment. The best part is that I can wear enhancements again and no longer be ashamed of my hands! Young Nails is a part of this learning journey, and each pieces of their system makes the other parts work better. The makeup analogy is bang on! So insightful!
    Love these videos and truly cannot thank you enough for not keeping them behind a pay wall! 5 stars, for sure💖💖💖💖💖

    For acrylics...
    Young Nails monomer works amazing with powders from Glitter Planet, CJP, Glitterbels, Naio Nails, and Glitterama. Glitterbels monomer works with powders from CJP, NSI, Glitterbels, Glitter Planet, Glitterama, Naio Nails, Glam and Glitz.
    Glam and Glitz colour acrylic powders tend to be quite runny, and Young Nails monomer seems to enhance that into a 1 mile sprint in 2 minutes! However, if you can live with the runny consistency, you'll have a solid colour on your nails that's pretty much eternal.
    CJP has three monomers and I've only tried two with a couple of powers thus far. CJP's Hema Free monomer works with powders from Glitterama, Glitter Planet, NSI, and Young Nails. CJP's Ultra Adhesive monomer works with powders from Young Nails, Glitterama, NSI, Naio Nails.
    And that's as far as I've gotten right now because I'm flat broke and put myself on a Buy Ban for at least a month! I've been saving up for an upgrade for my telescope LOL

    Love the topic!!! This needs to be talked about on all professional nail channels. Some mixing can cause contact dermatitis for techs or clients, especially if techs are not being careful with uncured products. I would love to see more videos like this where the chemistry of the products are explained to us. It helps a lot to understand how to handle each of them and also the clients often ask questions about this and why we do things a certain way with different systems. I like to give simple but knowledgeable answers. Don’t always find the right explanation though 😁
    And yes I do mix and match. It takes a few trial and error attempts but I make it work. I like fast setting monomers. I find they smell less strongly and make me work faster especially in winter and it hasn’t caused any adhesion or any other problems with the YN powders not even the speed powders. Can’t use with CND though it will cause lifting. Just an example. But I always keep different monomers at my table to use with different powders. 👌🏼

    I use p-bond with almost everything, YN as well as some other lines and no issues. In fact it’s gold. But I have to say the possibility of the development of allergies as a result has got me questioning it. Despite the fact I do not seem to have consistent results with other primers.

    I wish I found YN before I started nail school! I really love your positive energy and the way you share your knowledge with nailtechs. That really is reason #1 that makes me WANT to support YN (social media, spending money on products)
    For now I have to use the products I started with and slowly make the transition to YN.
    I am only in the business for 3 months now. My plan is to start with protein bond, base and top.
    My first purchase was YN airbrush. (Black Friday sale, hihi) Unfortunately the colors for airbrush were sold out. I also noticed you didn't ship to the Netherlands, was this only during Black Friday? I was lucky enough that I had family in the USA, but they are only there for a couple a months per year.

    I don’t like mixing foundations - if I’m using one base coat, I’ll use that colour and top coat. If I’m using a monomer, ill use that powder. But ill definitely mix brands other ways. One brand for forms, one brand for an acrylic system, one brand for a gel system etc

  • @samanthamann7001

    This was a great video! Thanks so much for it. I agree you should try and use the whole line, my problem is there is no distributor here for the brand I use, I can get the powders but not the liquid as it is deemed to dangerous to ship them .
    I use an acrylic line .It works but I wish I could use there whole range. Might have to try a kit from you guys product 🙂
    Would be an interesting segment to show how acrylic powders, monomers, primers,and gel products are made.

    I tried doing a hard gel as an extension, and then a different brand for “building” like the Young Nails gel system, but they aren’t compatible , so once I run out ima purchase your gel system.

    Iv been trying brands to see what I want to stick with after getting my license especially with builder gels. Light elegance was really hyped up but it’s really expensive for a starting nail tech and I really want to try your builder gels.

    I do mix and match strictly because I have to use oderless monomer and their are certain colors that I use that I can only get from other companies. While I would love to stick to just one brand, for me, depending on what kind of set I’m doing, it’s just not realistic.

    My products are 98% all YN the rest is really a small mixture of some premixed acrylics and reg polish and some gel polish... but my main base and or encapsulation is with YN... and alway YN monomer. I refuse to use any other brand monomer since I began using YN over 6 yrs ago..! 💗 My prep for nails using the protein bond when I worked for a salon and their Shellac my clients never had even one chip and it was really hard to remove their color when it came time to change the color. But when other techs had used Shellac and no protein bond they almost at least always had one finger nail chip.

      I was thinking the same thing. I have hundreds of nail additions that don't have chemicals at all, like glitters, pigments, tinsels, sequins glow in the dark powders, etc. And i mix them with YN products. I think it's ok, i will survive. 😂

    Its not just the amount of time that goes into testing in general but testing other brands and combos would cost you the manufacturer time and tons of money to buy other company's products and then we the consumer/nail tech are going to have to pay for that extra cost. And now because our costs just went up because of extra testing, we have to charge more to our clients. It makes no sense for you to buy another brand to test with. I watched another video on mixing and matching, and that company said they cant guarantee their products if you mix and match. I would guess all companies aren't going to guarantee their brand if you mixed it with another.

  • @amsassy101
    @amsassy101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I adore the way you handled this topic. In reality i dont belive any company has all the products i want so yes i mix and match. What i try not to do a lot of is mix systems. Example if I'm using the acrylic system, i try to use a system from one line except when I'm trying to get a specific color or glitter mix. But even with that my bases are from the same company. I believe that that helps with consistency and reduces the likelihood of problems.
    Question why are there no promos they are my life savers.

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, art is less of an issue but base products should be the same. We felt we could give more value by giving large flash sales once monthly rather than bimonthly limited promos

    Have recently started practicing nails again ( different brand than yours mainly cause it's dirt cheap and ships here) but not mixing the base bonder base main and top all one brand , however my glitters and stuff i get them from where i see them. As i'm just playing and practicing i'm skipping the polishes for powders because they don't go out of date.

    I’m getting confused sometimes about how to do manicures. Would you say soaking the hands or feet before applying gel polish make the nails too soft for the gel to adhere? A lot of salons have different opinions on that. So what do you think?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct, anytime you are working with gel you want the nails to be as dry and dehydrated as possible. Any soaking or massage should be done after the enhancement is applied.

    Mixing and matching can increase your chances of developing allergies, if you aren't using a full system you can't guarantee you are getting a complete cure. I dont mix and match for that reason alone. I'm training with Light Elegance to use the complete system. I've used young nails and like it, but you don't do coloured hard gels which I prefer
