The fuse for my older cougar slide out is the same fuse for the range hood…a15amp fuse for a small dinette slide…had me in a tailspin until I discovered this😮
Oh my how this helped me ! I just couldn't figure out why my sink GFI outlets wouldn't work and had no rest buttons. I search the fuse box, checked the breakers and was going to go under the sink when I found this video. It explained it all clearly. My bathroom GFI reset button works for the kitchen also. All connected. Thank you!
Great Video, thank you providing explanations of the system. I know you can't troubleshoot over text but, I have a question. Any idea why my 12v main (20A) fuse blows when i connect or disconnect my 30A cord from my generator (no load on system)? Bad converter possibly? TIA
After a very frustrating day of checking power, breakers, fuses, searching websites and watching videos (like this one) attempting to learn why the air conditioner in my 2020 Keystone Hideout wasn’t working I found a service technician who told me about the (unlabeled) switch above the fireplace that disables the AC.
Curiously, this video showed up in my feed. I recently purchased a 2025 model Keystone camper and have had MANY electrical questions. While this answered a few unasked questions, has Keystone produced any more recent videos? There are so many more electrical questions that frankly I’d like to see addressed.
Good Morning! We would recommend going through our videos on our page as we do have many videos going over some electrical in the unit. If you also ever have any questions you can call us at 866-425-4369!
I have a 2022 Passport GT Series with 2 solar Panels and 2 batteries. We're at an RV park and went through a storm. Since we didn't yet have our Surge protector, we unplugged from the 50Amp outlet and figured that the 2 Solar Panels and 2 batteries would be enough. Except that the TV shut off, lights dimmed. The Panel with battery level was blinking & beeping that it was low. We plugged back in and I reset the GFCI which brought back the TV. My question is, with 2 solar Panels and 2 batteries, why did I run out of power? Am I supposed to flip some kind of switch to tap into the Solar energy? The Battery Disconnect was on.
Good morning, we are sorry to hear you’ve had issues with your unit’s solar system. There isn’t enough information provided here for us to be certain what is happening. Based on what you are noting, as long as there was sufficient sun, and stored energy, the batteries should be charged up even with the 200 system. There may be an issue somewhere in the line, however, we can’t be certain until you’ve confirmed the following and have this formally inspected. You’d want to see the status of the Victron App to see what power is coming in/going out, and we’d want to see that the batteries are testing good. If the controller and batteries are good, there should be enough power to keep the lights on. The TV wouldn’t work unless you purchased an aftermarket inverter for the inverted outlets. Not sure if you did that, as you don’t mention that here. The batteries and inverter are not included by Keystone RV. I would ask that maybe you report your findings and any further questions through our retail team at 1-866-425-4369 Monday - Friday with your VIN. We do have solar experts in our call center that can also answer questions and troubleshoot with you. Thank you.
Please help! I have bought two batteries now both deep cycle batteries 12 volt 690 MCA 101 amp hours. Both of which have died on me. I live in the rv full time so I'm guessing it relies a lot on the battery. The rv is also connected to a 30 amp breaker switch inside of my parents house. This is in a 2004 Keystone Outback 28 RLS and I can't find anything online about it. Do I need a bigger size battery or what is my problem?
I have a 2013 cougar 32 SAB keystone. Interior light on slders on ceiling stopped working. Led's installed. All other led lights work perfectly fine inside camper. Fuses all good, battery good. What should check. Thank you
Good Morning, we would recommend checking the wiring behind the light and all wiring by the switch for that light. If it isn't a loose wiring issue then you may just need to replace the light complete.
I have a 2007 Keystone Outback M 23RS model plugged into wall outlet using heavy duty RV extension cord but still has no power to run AC ( Carrier RV) and Fridge (Dometic autoref temperature controlled) after it shut off from low power to shut off entirely yesterday; checked GFCI and Circuit breakers which was initially changed to the proper rating and amperage due to 3 blown fuses upon checking after the power shut off (2 40amp fuse and 1 20 amp fuse); the alert meter propane gas detector was blinking red to steady and now not on green but dead. I was informed as well that 2 30lb propane gas was low initially as it has been used, All RV outlets working including lights, excluding Stereo(Jensen) which s not working, no power on, but Microwave is on as tested. Need help to turn on AC or Fridge so as not to overload. Please and thank you
I bought a 219BH Passport and it is solar ready. I bought an expansion panel and is fine, but then when I was going to install the inverter...I removed the "future inverter location" box and a 20AMP yellow Romex wire appeared, no ends, is a loop so it comes out of the wall and goes back inside the wall. I don't see any other wires (to the battery) but the converter is next to it so I guess I can wire it directly to the LOAD connectors in the converter. How do I find pictures or instructions on how to deal with the ROMEX loop? I was expecting a terminal or end of the cable. The owners manual reads that is "pre-wired for seven outlets" but I pull and both ends seem to be connected unless it is snagged and I am too weak or afraid to pull hard. My thing is that if it comes prewired is best to use it and looks like that Romex protruding out of that hole like an intestine is where it needs to go but it does not make sense to splice it. I called and chat with Keystone but the girl in the chat had no idea and when I asked for a diagram, like the blue prints of a house, she said they don't send those to customers. Not even the roof plan to see where the joists would be for the solar panel brackets. I could test the wire but I don't want to cut the insulation. I took pictures but I don't know how to upload them here, I could send them in an email. My thing is that I understand the concept and I have done a lot of electric since my father was an electrician and I his helper until I was 21, but I don't know if the Romex comes or goes to the panel, converter, or just directly to outlets (which I doubt0 and why is it a loop and not an "end/tip".
Good afternoon, we will do our best to get you an answer here shortly on this! Thank you for your inquiry, and we'll respond here soon. Also, if we need photos we'll direct you to sent them to ownerrelations@keystonerv.com directly. However, I would wait until we get some answers on this first. Thank you.
Good morning! We do appreciate your inquiry. There are several things to keep in mind and so we will give you the best feedback we can based on the information you provided in your comment. Yes, the wiring is looped and we do NOT recommend pulling on it. It’s a simple receptacle circuit, which we do not label or have any schematic to provide to help you in your efforts with that. For safety reasons, we do not recommend RV owners to work on their 120V system. We do not have a video for the installation of the inverter for this reason as well. What we can do is refer you to a local authorized dealership for assistance with installation of the inverter itself. www.keystonerv.com/find-a-dealer. They will be able to guarantee their work, and you’ll have the peace of mind knowing it was completed by an authorized location. We also have a team here on the dealership service side for support if needed. What we can advise regarding mounting of the solar panels is that the roof is 3/8” decking, and the panel can be installed pretty much anywhere on the roof where there is room as long as your cables near the port, typically within 3’. We hope this information helps you in your efforts. Thank you!
We just picked up a used 2017 premier ultra lite 29rkpr and the convertor fan is continually running any thoughts to why we are plugged in to our house. Thanks
That is a great question. The converter fan will run at all times when you are plugged in to a 110 power source or shore power. We hope this helps answer this for you. Sounds like it should be operating as designed.
Looking for help I'm troubleshooting why outside Outlet an outlet under the dinette table right beside it inside wall, are not working. GCF his functioning fine on all other outlets.
Nice information, as a first time keystone cougar travel trailer owner my question, is can you convert a 30 amp travel trailer into higher amp trailer?
We have a Passport Elite 19RB. When plugged in to 30 amp service, we can use the outlets to power appliances. When we are not plugged in, is there an inverter that changes the 12v to 120 to power appliances like a CPAP? I guess my question is, is there a built in inverter that services the outlets by the bed, in the kitchen or in the bath, and behind the TV?
Good morning, this is a great question. Because this is a VIN specific question, you'll need to call with your VIN and speak to our call center to confirm what your unit came with or is prepped with. The number is 1-866-425-4369 and they are open Monday - Friday. We will note, if you have inverted outlets, then the outlets themselves would be marked to identify which ones are inverted. Thank you.
I'm trying to figure out why I have a 12V powered awning LED strip OWM that doesn't respond to any of my fuses in the box or on the tongue ( and no I'm not connected to shore power).
Good Morning, This fuse may be separate for the awning. There should be an inline fuse a few feet off the battery and sometimes another one is placed along the wiring for the powered awning strip. If you cannot locate this please do call us at 866-425-4369 so we can get that exact location for you! Thank you.
My Keystone Carbon 36 toy hauler does not identify the fuse list! The paper is blank and I can’t get Keystone to respond. I have a blown fuse and I have no idea what’s causing it because the fuses are not identified!!
Good morning Sheena, for any part questions or concerns, please contact any of our authorized dealerships. If you should need assistance locating an authorized dealership please visit our website at www.keystonerv.com and click on the "Find A Dealer" tab. You can also use our dealership who sells parts online at www.trekwood.com, they will have a parts catalog available for you to look through there. Thank you!
Why does the battery/12V system use black and white wiring? This is too easily confused with 120Vac hot and neutral wiring! Also, why would the black 12V wire be positive? On cars/trucks, black is negative. I don't understand why the 12V system doesn't use the same color code as cars and trucks.
RV in camper trailer wiring isn't the same as any other wiring and it confuses the s*** out of me because it's different from car or house wiring The color code is the opposite of house wiring apparently in this
If you use a 30 amp adapter on a 50 amp receptacle you are saying that its only good enough to run the battery charger and nothing else? Would you not be able to use 30 amps?
Unfortunately, the unit cannot “step up ” in amps. You can only use an adapter to “step down” from 50amp to lower amperages. You cannot go from a 30amp and plug in to a higher amped plug, even with an adapter you cannot adapt up, only down.
Good afternoon, yes, there are 2 (40AMP) reverse polarity fuses on the converter itself. The output of the converter should be 13.65 volts when plugged in to shore power. The converter will not charge the batteries when not connected to shore power. If the converter has lower than 13.65 volts in output, you'd want to contact a dealership or service center. If the unit is 2 years old or less it may still be covered under warranty. If it is older than that, they'll at least be able to assist you in ordering a replacement. You may find our dealership locator link at www.keystonerv.com. Thank you.
I have a 2102 Laredo bumper pull. I pulled the wires off the first breaker on the hitch because it was rusted to hell and forgot which post (on the breaker) had 2 wires and which had 1. Not sure if it matters but I would appreciate any help here. And please, forgive my retardery.
My neighbor has a keystone and her lights start to dim and flicker than shut off. They come back on later.... What's the best test to figure out the issue?
Good morning, since the lights are 12V she would want to check her power converter. It should be outputting 13.65V when plugged in to shore power. She can also check her batteries and her mini-breaker for voltage. If she needs further assistance, she can contact our retail call center at 1-866-425-4369 Monday - Friday. Thank you.
@@mitchsalewsky6475 the clip on the solenoid was dirty on mine. I clean it up with some sand paper last week and it works fine now. Not sure for how long but it's working right now
Please help i have an 07 keystone and been in it for 3 weeks 2 days last week my 50 amp breaker tripped the ref hot water and the ceiling fan were the only things running then last nite at 3am no hard power pulls it tripped again them at 630 then at 9 the light font dim everything seems fine them it trips
Good morning! For immediate assistance with this, please contact our Owner Relations Department with the last 8 digits of your VIN, directly at 1-866-425-4369 Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm & Friday 8am-4pm EST. Thank you!
SOS... The tongue jack isn’t getting power to it but when I go inside my passport 2015 trailer do you slide out works some of the lights on the outside don’t work and the awning does not work
Good morning! If your awning and lights are not working, we recommend to check the voltage on your RV battery. You would need between 12.6-12.8 volts in order to run the components properly. If you need further assistance with this or you have any other questions, please reach out to our Owner Relations Department at 1-866-425-4369. Thank you!
This sounds like a great question for our retail team. The can pull what furnace is installed inside that model with your VIN and provide you direction from there on how to turn it on from the thermostat. They are open Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and Fridays 9am-4pm all times EST. The number is 1-866-425-4369 Thank you.
Good morning, it depends on how old your unit is. If it's a newer unit, 2016-current, then it's wired just like an automotive battery. Black is negative and red is positive. If you have an older unit, then it's likely going to be backwards. If you have further questions, please do contact our retail team at 1-866-425-4369.Thank you.
Good Morning, Yes you will be able to use items in your unit if you are using battery power. Do kee in mind that the more you use off of the battery power with nothing charging it can cause the battery to drain quickly. If you have any questions on this please do call us at 866-425-4369. Thank you!
There are directly related 12V items supplied to the unit that do not come from the shore power. Such as your slides and jacks. There are many features in the RV that require a 12V battery source in order to operate due to how the unit is wired. If you have additional questions about this, please feel free to reach out to our retail team directly at 1-866-425-4369. Thank you.
Hi Marcella! In order to provide you with immediate assistance, we would need to obtain some information from you in order to look up your unit. Please reach out to our retail call center at 1-866-425-4369 with the last 8 digits of your VIN Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm & Friday 8am-4pm EST. Any one of our Retail Advisors will be happy to assist you. Thank you!
Hi Damien, it's difficult to diagnose an issue without more information. Please contact our customer service, either by messaging our Facebook Page (facebook.com/KeystoneRV/) or calling (866) 425-4369. You'll want to include your VIN in the message.
the trailer is plugged in into 50 amp source, the interior lights come on, the TV is playing but nothing else operates (AC, microwave, appliances). The coffee maker light/time comes on but doesn't get enough power to make coffee. What is the issue?

Good morning, since the lights are 12V she would want to check her power converter. It should be outputting 13.65V when plugged in to shore power. She can also check her batteries and her mini-breaker for voltage. If she needs further assistance, she can contact our retail call center at 1-866-425-4369 Monday - Friday. Thank you.
@@KeystoneRVCompany thank you for the guidance!!!!!

What would happen if I plugged my 120 volt camper into a 220 v plug. All appliances are working but the lights and awning aren't.
Thank you!

How do I connect POS and neg wires to battery? Wich order do I connect it too??
Good morning, it depends on how old your unit is. If it's a newer unit, 2016-current, then it's wired just like an automotive battery. Black is negative and red is positive. If you have an older unit, then it's likely going to be backwards. If you have further questions, please do contact our retail team at 1-866-425-4369.Thank you.
When im on battery only can i charge my phone or use my tv?
Good Morning,
Yes you will be able to use items in your unit if you are using battery power. Do kee in mind that the more you use off of the battery power with nothing charging it can cause the battery to drain quickly. If you have any questions on this please do call us at 866-425-4369.
Thank you!
where does the trailer plug into for the travel lights
Hi, Dennis. There is a cord on your A-frame near your battery hook-up that plugs into your truck.
If we remain on shore power and the converter is converting AC to DC, why is a battery necessary?
There are directly related 12V items supplied to the unit that do not come from the shore power. Such as your slides and jacks. There are many features in the RV that require a 12V battery source in order to operate due to how the unit is wired. If you have additional questions about this, please feel free to reach out to our retail team directly at 1-866-425-4369. Thank you.
Great Job
