    Definitely an amazing tool I don’t do steep roofs without one and I always use the manual pitch gauge too lol 😂

    Great video! I've seen where a ladder can be used on them, when going up to the next story, if there isn't an appropriate angle or place to use it.

      Thank you for engaging with us! I've thought about trying the Pitch Hopper out to get onto a 2nd story roof. Just got to get over my anxiety about putting my trust in that block of foam! But currently I use a couch cushion, so...
      😂

    How does it do on water, old single that falling apart or the slip tar paper that under the shingle

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It works well on asphalt shingles in pretty much any condition, but not very well on the underlayment, especially if it's wet.

    got to be some type of foam rubber on the bottom , foam rubber is a roofers dream. I like this.

    • @SunofYork
      @SunofYork 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the foam wears out after 1 year

    • @HardRockMiner
      @HardRockMiner 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SunofYork - That completely depends on how much you use it. It isn't time-dependent. It doesn't expire. That's just silly.

    I use a similar device as a painter , I forget the name , BUT because of the nature of the job I end up lying on the roof which shifts the weight off it and it WILL slide . Because of that my main uses for it is as a platform for my paint pot and tools and as a way to create a level surface to put my ladder if I working on a dormer . It's a bit spooky but because the weight it going straight down it holds . As a backup have a kicker board attached where I step off my ladder as a last stop if I slide . I don't use safety harnesses myself , not saying I recommend that it's just my personal choice , but I mention that to show I have full faith in the tool in the right situations

    After testing the 24”, would you get that size again or do you think the 32 would be a better size? I would be using it for gutter cleaning mainly so maybe kneeling and sitting on it too.

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely will be getting a 32"!
      I just had to use mine to sit on to dig a tennis ball out of a downspout. Looked like it had been there for years. Without the Pitch Hopper, I would not have felt safe on a 2 story roof, leaning out over the eave.

    It is all about static friction coefficient - for 45% you need k>1, does not matter whether you are heavy or light person. Physics!!!

    Should still be wearing fall protection. If he lost his balance and fell he could still roll off that lesser pitched roof. Happens real fast

    Do you know if they work on cedar roofs or just composite?

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really good question. We don't have very many cedar or shake roofs here as they are illegal. Any that are around are grandfathered in from when they were legal, so I rarely ever have to get on one.

    Interesting to say the least, I might be inclined to use one at some point, how ever I would for sure STILL have my first row of roof brackets and walking planks at the bottom of the roof in the event something went wrong to stop me from falling to my death

    a "10x10 square" is just a myth insurance companies push on poor and unsuspecting property owners. Hail is hail.

      @homesteadroofing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could you elaborate?

    • @TheGolfster3
      @TheGolfster3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@homesteadroofing Certainly. One hit on at least 2-3 slopes is sufficient. Any meteorologist will tell you that hail doesn't hit in one area, rather it spans the gamut. Where there is one, there are countless more to follow. Chalk it, put a tape measure to size it, document it and send the report to the adjuster.

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheGolfster3 Right... like any adjuster is going to total a roof for one hit on 2-3 slopes.

    • @TheGolfster3
      @TheGolfster3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@homesteadroofing You have to understand, you are the roofing expert and the adjuster is the policy "protector" for the company he works for. Adjusters, regardless of what they say or tell you, don't understand roof systems let alone damage to a system. Take control of the situation or you will forever be at the insurance companies mercy.
