    I travelled from Lusaka to Petauke. It is 404km and will take at least 6 hours.
    There are a lot of humans settlements along the way. Speed bumps and people hustling to make ends meat.
    From Petauke to Track and Trail it is 307km and will take at least 4.5 hours.
    The last big town before South Luangwa that has "everything" is Chipata. It is 134km away and 2.5 hours.
    COSTS vary if you are local or international.
    I paid $65-75 a day to stay in South Luangwa.
    Stay here in Petauke - www.zambiatourism.com/listing...
    You pay for:
    -Car - $15-$25
    -Conservation fee - $20-$30
    -Camping - $15-$25
    They only take dollars or Kwatcha.

    I have stayed at Zikomo on many occasions and always had superb treatment and hospitality from Victoria and the team there. My only regret is that I don't get to this magical spot more often! Its a unique portal into the wild life paradise of South Luangwa that is free from the people pressures of the hugely popular Mfuwe gateway into the park. Its a real privilege to get a spot at Zikomo - don't let a single issue put you off. I cant recommend it enough. Zikomo means welcome and is aptly named........

    Love your video, will watch more of them! I'm looking into visiting South Luangwa. U went to see the leopard at night, so it's possible to self-drive at night? Or was this also outside of the park?

    I'm sorry you had such an uncomfortable experience at Zikomo Safari Camp. I'm also glad that it didn't dampen your South Luangwa National Park experience.
    Next time you're in Zambia you should let me be your local guide...

      Ahhh, man !!! Thank you for watching, and thank you for being kind. I am happy that I didn't get down. It made me stronger, actually. I learned a lot. Next time, I come to Zambia if someone can convince me to go back because honestly, for now, I enjoy South Africa Namibia more than I will call you for sure!!

      I totally understand, being hospitable is clearly not automatic and if we want more tourists to come over there's a lot we need to work on.

    Thanks for this video. Were you able to drive at night in South Luangwa, or is that only possible for the tour operators?

      My pleasure, thank you for watching!! I watch your content from time to time when I have time 😀 I am so grateful for your support and comment. Yes, in the Nsefu sector, there are not really any rules because there are no gates. I did drive up to an hour after dark without any other vehicles around. The South Luangwa park has gates times, and they are set for sunset and sunrise.

    This video has inspired me to do a self drive of Luangwa. I have self drivem KTP in the past. Will you recommend a self drive? Thank you

    • @Theexperienceafrica
      @Theexperienceafrica  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yessss that is amazing!!! That is the reason I share these videos !!! I recommend a drive, and I say the really amazing place to drive close to Main Gate is up to the Baobab left and across toward the east of the park. Then loop back and drive along the river. There is soft sand, so make your tyres at least 1.5 PSI

      @@Theexperienceafrica thank you very much. Will start planning one. Doing ethosa and Ktp drive early next year so hopefully late next year. Thank you, these videos are why I keep searching you tube content, I've planned all my trips to Africa using TH-cam videos.

      South Luangwa....a fine and yes challenging environment....
      the wild and yes not easy travelling is part of that...I first visited in 1990..
      so pleased and reassurred it has sirvived the ravages of poaching .especially elephant ..due to Conservation South Luangwa.
      The river can do an 8 foot rise in December The riverine woodlands make it so distinct...
      Pleased that wild dog are re established...
      The bushwalks add another dimension
      Hope to return for a 4th time..maybe North Luangwa...and yes those night drives....and the honk and song of the hippo..or a Scops owl call at night and the always call of the Carmines
      Here,s to wild Africa its atmospheres sounds calls smell
      Those buffs always look at you as if you owe them money!

    • @Theexperienceafrica
      @Theexperienceafrica  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow!! No, I don't know how yo spot them. That would be really special. I have never seen one. I do know they are a lot in the Nothern Cape but they are more nocturnal.

    Too much noise & not enough Dollars to travel freely in Africa

    • @Theexperienceafrica
      @Theexperienceafrica  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you mean "noise" by people and travel being hard and difficult I agree with you. You do end up needing a lot of money and wasting much time.
