    Not mentioned: The lens has filter threads (37mm) for adding a circular polarizer, etc.
    Instead of a microphone jack, Canon included a remote jack (much to Mr. Laing's consternation). The remote jack is essential for me because I like to shoot time lapses and need it to attach my intervalometer. (Why Canon doesn't include an internal interval shooting feature for stills is beyond me. It seems to me like it would be a simple feature to include, especially since one is partially implemented for the star time-lapse and time-lapse video modes.)

    Nice to learn about the Canon flagship compact camera. However, after knowing about it; I ended up buying a used G5X. At least they look very similar. Did I mention a faster lens too!

    This looks a great little camera to balance on a Crane-M gimbal (the smaller crane) instead of the A6300/A6500 you usually see. Good 1080p with DPAF fits more into my work flow for a video gimbal camera - plus nice to have a good quality travel camera to shoot nice Canon raw files with.

    A super camera for the enthusiast. However with smartphones sporting dual or triple lenses covering almost the same optical range you can see why camera sales are tanking.

      I love mine and hope they make mk iv. Great IQ but don’t expect miracles from 24-72mm equivalent focal length if trying to shoot wildlife. Because of how compact it is I always have it with me on hikes and adventures, along with Zeiss 25mm binoculars and Ulanzi MT-49 tripod. It all fits in Peak Design Tech Pouch. You always miss the shots you didn’t bring your camera for and the G1X is made for going on as many adventures as possible.

    When my Canon G9 died, I debating long between the RX100V and G1XMK3.
    Low light performance and portability was my main concern which is why I didn’t go with the M5 or 80D. Thinking the APS-C sensor will be a huge benefit on low light despite the slow lens, I bite the bullet and paid $1,600 CAD + tax for the G1XMK3. 1080 video was not my concern. I really like the touch addition and articulating screen from my G9.
    Here is what I don’t like about it. #1 Price, its ridiculously priced for a P&S. I can get the 80D with kit lens on sale for the same price. However in theory this should be as good as the 80D as it uses the same sensor and even a newer processor then the 80D. The kit lens of 80D is F/3.5 so I told myself to stop complaining about the slow lens on the G1XMK3. #2 Focus - maybe I still need to master the camera but the dual pixel AF was not as good as I expected. #3 Ergonomics - sure the grip it nice but, but the lens cap is a very annoying piece for a simple P&S. #4 This goes back to my first point. The larger sensor is just compensating the slow lens. In low light, it’s only as good as the G5X. Check out TCST video at th-cam.com/video/Xg1h9sLWVMk/w-d-xo.html which I can get at half the price! Unlike the 80D, I cannot change the lens. So what is the point of this large sensor? I felt like I was tricked or was dumb!

    I've been confused for a long time about which camera to get among this one, the Canon M100, the Canon M6, and the Fujifilm X70. I'm not a professional photographer. I just want my photos to be very good. I don't like the photos I take with my phone. Portability is the only criterion I have. I have large hands with long and thin fingers.
    I would be using the camera for portrait, landscape, street, product, and toy photography and for vlogging.
    Please suggest me which one to go for. Thanks in advance.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't get the Fuji X70 if you're into vlogging. You also need to ask yourself if you need a microphone input or are happy with built-in mics. I'm assuming you don't want 4k either from that shortlist.

  • @planetdee3587
    @planetdee3587 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My issue with this camera is it is expensive compared to the SL2 which is just about as small (with a pancake lens) and has a mic input for video recording and cost much less.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree the 200D / SL2 is a great vlogging option, but it's quite a bit larger than this camera even with a pancake.

    • @planetdee3587
      @planetdee3587 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gordon Laing, do you think you might be able to do a comparison? I was thinking of maybe getting a small option in the Canon range but could not decide. Wanted it to be good for stills and video.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say it's best bet in their DSLR range right now. None of their mirrorless cameras so far have the same screen articulation, which allows them to face forward, fit on a tripod and mount an external mic.

    How does the performance in low light compare to a Canon EOS R8 with the RF 24-105 f/4-7.1?

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not just the much larger sensor on the R8 that's going to be a benefit, but also the fact it's using much newer technology. Even with a modest lens, the R8 will easily beat it in low light.

    May be, is more convenient to buy an interchangable lens body (EOS M50?) so you can use the 15-45mm lens in day light and the 22 mm for night/indoors stills. For me G1X iii is no sense: even dimensions are similar to other Eos-M body+22mm.

    Energy is off on this video, not sure if its the stress of making a shorter video or lack of enthusiasm for this camera. 15 minutes is a good length for these type of videos. Unless you are reviewing menu's etc... don't need as much depth regarding the camera. Things I like about your reviews are your personalities, experience, and comparisons to other cameras. I come to your page because you point out the exceptional aspects and the quirks of the cameras.

    Great video guys. Many thanks. Could have been the perfect vlogging camera with the addition of a mic imput. The 6Dii could have been a great wedding/event camera with the addition of a second memory card slot. Talk about spoiling the ship for a hap'orth of tar. Extraordinary petty-minded, self defeating decisions by Canon.

      No the 6d II sensor has less dynamic range then a 1 inch compact at base Iso.
