This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about how the Chargers almost acquired the rights to John Elway due to similar circumstances.
Back in the day, I was an avid Cardinal fan as a teenager and I just remember how devastating the death of JV Cain was to the team and the community. However, I had not remembered this issue regarding the trade with KC or that we picked up Doug Marsh as a result. So, interesting walk down this period of time
I hope the Cardinals make another Super Bowl run one of these years. As a fan base I’m not sure if anyone except maybe the Cubs fans that have had a rougher go of it. And I really hope they don’t go and change or modify their logo like so many teams go and do. It’s classic. The black jerseys were cool. And the red color rush is too.
@@jpmnky I think the Cardinals have beautiful uniforms (just like a live cardinal, which I also love looking at) , and have come a long way since 2007. I think they'll get back to the bowl soon, they just have to have their best players stay on the field.
With draft moves like THIS it is NO WONDER that the Arizona Cardinals are WAY WORSE than a 39.6. They would be BETTER OFF just SPIKING the football into the ground on EVERY single OFFENSIVE play!!!!
Curtis Greer was a good defensive end before knee problems ended his career in 1987. Doug Marsh had a couple good seasons, but was ok for the most part.
Greer was one of the best pass rushers in the league in the early-mid 80's. In one game against the Colts in 1980, he had 4 sacks, leading the Cards to an NFL record, 12 sacks in one game. Interesting Fact: A week later, the Colts met the Chiefs and did not give up a sack, all game. Meanwhile the Colts D rang up 11 sacks, nearly tying the Cards record of the week before.
Walter White followed up his NFL career with a legendary run as New Mexico’s greatest manufacturer of speed in history. It was blue. They made a television series on it too.
It sounds to me like Walter White’s (88) knee injury, suffered in the 3rd game of the 1979 season in the Astrodome, was worse than anyone knew. He never reported to the Cardinals for his physical - in fact, he never played another game in the NFL. That knee injury may have been the culprit.
In regards to the '76 Chiefs, they actually led the NFL in passing yards, with ancient RB Macarthur Lane (who you have mentioned before) leading the league with 66 catches. White's numbers themselves were way off the charts by the standards of the day. The '77 Chiefs may be the worst KC team of all time, but White again had a great season, especially by '77 standards, when offense nearly went extinct and led to the major rule changes the following season, to aid the passing game. IAC, it is good to see something about White, who was one of the best at his position for a short time.
@@shanetrimble9265 I think it's funny as well, but also there's a kernel of truth to that statement; due to social media and general media, there are some athletes that, at least from my perspective, come off as individuals who need a little work on their mental health, while others are downright mentally ill.
Things like this are the reason why the Cardinals franchise has got longer without winning a championship than any other team in American major professional sports.
i became a cardinals fan when the moved to arizona I was living there at the time and I remember one other trade that they made that fell through and theat was kenny easley he failed a physical and the trader tell through
Again your claims the 49ers panicked compared to the Cardinals is a big stretch. The Cardinals drafted Marsh in the same 2nd rd that that the 49ers did Wesley Walls. Both teams used 1st rd picks on defensive players. The big deference....the Cardinals REALLY panicked and took Marsh at #33. The 49ers drafted Walls at #56 lol. Being serious both teams did the same exact move. Claiming one panicked while the other didn't is funny.
@@Eqr36P Well I don't give a crap for the 49ers. I been a Chiefs fan since 1992. Its basically stating a fact. Both teams in the 1980 and 1989 drafts didn't go panic and draft 1st rd TEs. Both teams drafted defensive players that 1st rd and both took TEs in 2nd rd.
You should have mentioned that J.V. Cain, the Cardinals tight end who replaced Jackie Smith, was very good, but died in training camp before the 1979 season.
OK, I'm calling you out on this one. How was this controversial on the Cardinals part? They sent a 3rd round pick to KC for a player and the player, throwing a tantrum, didn't report. The controversy is on White, not the Cardinals. Also, the Cards did draft Doug Marsh who fit in nicely but since they had Ottis Anderson who was a great RB and good out of the backfield the need for a pass catching TE wasn't needed. They also had 2 decent pass catching fullbacks. Throw in Roy Green's eventual emergence as a receiver along with Mel Gray and Pat Tilly, all the Cards needed was a blocking TE which is what Parris, Marsh, and Lefleur all were. Also, if you judge this as the most crazy pre draft controversy in Cardinals history then you don't know the Cards.
This was smart from the Cardinals. White should have known that players are traded all the time especially before draft night. He could have extended his career, but instead acted like a child.

"And even though the Cardinals could have easily broken bad"
You just couldn't resist, could you?
You're goddamn right.

Mike Livingston those old names come flooding back into my memory.
Years later the Cardinals had a tight end named Jay Novacek who was outstanding...with the Cowboys.
These draft videos are AMAZING. Keep it up bro, your channel will continue to rise. You do some of the most unique work I’ve ever seen on TH-cam.
5:32-5:39 nearly killed me with that Olivia Rodrigo bit.
Great video as always.
Darn, some guys beat me to the Breaking Bad references.
Bud Wilkinson wow I forgot about that but he was a great college coach and a legend that's going back a ways.

Still in shock and disbelief about the Wade Wilson-Neil Lomax voting.
I remember J.V Cain that was tragic.
Jesse, we got traded

5:33. As a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo, I respect and smile at the reference to her song Brutal in this context! Great video overall once again!
I was gonna say that trade broke bad, but others beat me to the punch. 🤷♂️
I think White went to a shack in New Hampshire instead.
Nah, New Mexico

8:07 exemplifies how much more savage and manly the NFL was in the '70s compared to now. The refs were all, "We'll allow it".
Yes, players wore their pads in those days and needed them. Redskin DB Joe Lavender (20) would have drawn multiple PF flags today.
They also finished their careers with all kinds of problems but aight

Nice job by the Cardinals' personnel people of not panicking. Sometimes, sticking to your plan can work out well.
White would have ended up in New Mexico after retirement.

In light of him being a Bronco, cover how the Broncos almost drafted Russell Wilson
I miss that old cardinal helmet with the old double bar facemask.

I liked those old cardinal uniforms better than the ones they wear now they are too over the top.
I don't remember Walter white I think because I didn't really follow the chiefs that closely other qb and a few defensive players that they had.

I think the Lions have a worse franchise history at least the cardinals made it to a Superbowl but that's when they moved to Arizona.
