I am on Windows because everything is just works as it should like overall windows os is the best for creators and productivity like the best for music production, video editing is the best on the planet thanks to Intel and Nvidia, best for 3d artists, vfx cgi and animation and gaming is like bonus/cherry on top, best for coding as well, etc etc.
Best displays, best connectivity, best user experience.
I cannot believe how fast windows systems are evolving.
Later this year meteorlake laptops on Intel 4 node with L4 cache "Adamantine" with better battery than m2 pro(leaked by trusted leakers), new media engines like and 2 times faster igpu.
13 gen is already faster even running on battery power than m2 pro and max for creative work.
Then in 2024, we will enter in angstrom era like Intel 20A node with RibbonFET transistors(GAA) and "power via" backside power delivery, all these tech in arrow and lunar lake laptops.
      Exciting times a head.

Both. I've had an ASUS S15 ZenBook for several years, which my wife is using now for personal use, and it's been completely reliable. I transitioned to MOSTLY macOS a few years ago --- I still have a modest Windows desktop for some legacy apps that can't be duplicated or replaced. My portable computer these days is an M2 MacBook Air.

@@Dayum62499all have better affordable pricing than macs. Windows laptops provides a lot but costs less than macs.
Windows laptops has better value overall considering oled display, way better CPU and GPU performances and overall performance.
Thatswhy some 3d artirsts are saying that 1600 dollars is very cheap for RTX 4090 desktop card.

Wow, this thing looks amazing! It really checks all the boxes, and it even doesn't have the ugly plastic, protruding bezel that many other Windows machines have. And this video was so helpful, including your providing the speed of the sd card reader. I'm hard pressed to find flaws in the machine; maybe it'd be nice of one of the TB ports was on the other side, but that's really nitpicking. Speaking of nitpicking, perhaps giving a mention of performance while on battery would be helpful. A ton of Windows laptops perform so poorly on battery, but it varies from OEM to OEM exactly how much power is allowed to be used while on battery. It would be nice to know how this one does in that area. Otherwise, this was an excellent video IMO.

This is why I stuck with my M1 MacBook Pro. Windows laptops have atrocious battery life, bordering on unusable without standby power. They estimate 10 hours but it’s most likely just 2-3.

Also a couple of Lenovos on my shortlist, but I've seen plenty of quality control complaints about Lenovo laptops. And it's not always about the chassis or some physical flaw. My cousin's Galaxy Buds didn't properly connect with his brand new Lenovo and he had to return it after wasting hours with Lenovo technicians, but his Asus had no such issue (both Windows 11 machines). So make sure you get acceptable return policy and customer service from Lenovo in your region.

What I love about my MB Pro 14 is that I can rest it on my lap or a cushion with a case on and do office work, and it stays cold and silent. Every Windows prosumer's "thin and light" laptop warms up just surfing on Chrome, and that is without a case. If a computer cannot do the basics like running comfortably on your lap, it is undoubtedly no Macbook killer. As for battery life, over the weekend, I used >3 hours SOT and >48 hours standby on my MB Pro 14 and used 25% battery! I am currently testing the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 i5 (16-inch), and 7.5 hours is my best, running continuously! As you are aware, the 16-inch MB Pro has even better battery life than my 14-inch!

The problem with a lot of these laptops is that they are only really a good choice in comparison with an Apple Silicon Mac if they are on a desk with a mouse. The Macbooks have great trackpads, a lot better battery life, are cooler and never make a sound unless you are pushing the CPU and the GPU really hard and at that point it is still barely audible. As a true "laptop" (meaning you intend to use it on your lap), nothing in the Windows space is competing right now IMO.
Now if you intend to do intensive 3D work like Blender or play games, you don't really have a choice but to go with something other than a Mac. I figure this is a pretty good option as far as both of those go.

    • @saintgimpchapel
      @saintgimpchapel ปีที่แล้ว +4

I would disagree with that. I used both the m2 air and the m1 pro, and they were great, but no better for lap use than the Surface Laptop 4. The SL4 was completely quiet and cool (unless I was gaming or rendering), and had, imo, slightly better keyboard and trackpad. The battery normally lasted me all day.
Plus, it had a touch-screen, which is great when using it on your lap.
The sheer variety of windows machines means you can get one for whatever needs and desires you have.
      Want a touchscreen? Sure thing.
Want a 17 inch screen? Not a problem.
      Want a dual screen? Fine.
Want a screen that folds back and you can write on? We've got dozens.
Want a screen that folds back, supports pen input, and also slots at 45 degrees over the keyboard but not the trackpad. Can do.
Want a screen that refreshes at 240Hz, 360Hz, or 480Hz? Take your pick.
Want a 16 inch laptop that weighs the same as a 13 inch m2 Air? Can do.
Want a 17 inch laptop that weighs a good less than a 14 inch MacBook pro? Sure.
Want a decent laptop under $500 bucks new? Got you covered.
Want 32 GB of ram and a 1 TB ssd for under $1,300? Okay, choose your brand.
Point being: if you want a laptop that only functions in clamshell mode, that has no touchscreen, that has great battery life, is very quiet, you can choose a MacBook (and be very happy), or you can choose from a bunch of windows machine. If you want any of the things listed above then you have to go with a windows machine.

@@saintgimpchapel I have tried numerous Windows laptops over the past year (I do have some stuff that only runs on Linux or Windows and was going to hopefully replace my desktop with a laptop for those tasks) and have sent them all back.
One of the main ones I thought about but never tried is the Surface Laptop 4 - primarily because the pricing for the power you get seems horrible. The underpowered U series chip along with only 8 or 16gb ram as the only < $2400 option just seems nuts.
I would agree that you have more options for hardware on the PC side of things but I'd argue most of those are not great. Sure you can get a 16 inch or 17 inch laptop that weighs less than a 13 or 14 inch Mac on Windows side but those laptops have horrible build quality in comparison (I assume you're talking about the LG Grams which I have tried).
As far as folding laptops, I would argue that someone would be much better served with an iPad/Mac combo.
For gaming (which is the only case you'd ever want a super high refresh screen), I am completely with you that the only route to go is a Windows (or Linux which I prefer) laptop.
I really do wish the PC laptop side of things was better, I really do. I am attempting to replace my desktop again and am eagerly awaiting the Framework 16. I bought the 13 inch but hated the trackpad and the screen aspect didn't play nice with Linux. The new 16 inch has a 16:10 screen and I will mostly be using a mouse since it will be replacing my desktop so I am super excited about it.

Would love some feedback on making a decision! I recently purchased and returned a Blade 15 and pre-ordered a zenbook pro 14, probably a few weeks away from getting shipped out. I had always wanted a razer because of their aesthetic, but decided I wanted something smaller and was concerned w/ Razer support as a brand. I currently have a Alienware 13 R3 (love the OLED screen on it and support / same goes for my wifes HP) and was originally looking for the portable laptop w/ the following:
    - RTX 4070 or above.
    - Macbookesque build quality and uni-body design, but in black or a dark color
    - Backlit keyboard, color is nice but not a deal breaker
    - Dual m.2 slots (none of the "finalists" have this due to size) and can fit a 4tb gen 4 ssd
    - Minimum 32gb RAM capable
    - 14" 2k+ display preferable w/ pen support on a flat surface if possible
    - 8-10 hour of battery life (some design work, can have 10+ chrome tabs open, check emails, etc.)
I've been in the Architecture profession for 12 years and also game, do graphic design, 3D modeling, some rendering and narrowed it down to the following:
    - 13.4" 2023 Rog flow x13 with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS - Can't find for sale
    - 14" 2023 Blade 14 with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS - $2750
    -14.5" 2023 Zenbook Pro 14 with Gen 13 Intel Core i9-13900H - $2600
I plan on upgrading the Ram and SSD immediately, while also adding thermal paste (prices above include cost of upgrades, tax, and any discounts/cash back rewards). I hate the G14 in white so that isn't an option. I would have loved to get a z book, but their hardware is always a generation behind.

@ansonc9279 no issues so far! I've run Revit 22-24, CAD, sketchup, lumion, Adobe creative suit w/o any issues or bottlenecks. I have been mainly using it to remote into my work tower, but whenever I need it to, it has handled tasks really well.
The only upgrades I've made have been the ssd (8tb) and the thermal paste (grizzly). It stays relatively quiet, but can get hot (only on the underside) and the battery life is horrible. I get about 70 minutes on medium usage.
I've also played some first person shooter games like war zone which have been glitch free. I have it connected to a Dell dock with 2 27" monitors most of the time.
I plan on undervolting it when I get a chance. The screen is amazing, but a tiny bit "grainey". For some reason mine didn't come with a stylus which was very disappointing. I definitely wish it had a 360 hinge and better battery life, but the build quality is superb. I find the scroll wheel to be a gimmick, but I haven't set up my shortcuts yet to say that fairly.
It was a tough choice between this and the 14" slim pro 9i. I'm happy with my purchase overall. Hope this helps!

When you benchmark the laptop, do you leave it on battery or plugged in?

Plugged in, of course. The way 90% of people use their laptop.

Even in coffee shops with gaming box, "fan noise" NEVER annoys anyone
Everyone should keep all laptops plugged in regardless of chip, you get far more life from battery

Not everywhere that you can plug in. So you need 4 hour battery life for say video editing. Also, you can use Usb-c charger for compact power brick portability but i heard it might damage the battery...

@@MrPerrisC I don't understand. You have a 3rd party power brick you use instead of the original brick which is bigger than it? What's the point?
I'm talking about using a smaller portable USB-C charger, and I heard they charge the battery while using it even when reaching 100%< and that creates heat..some laptops enable to bypass the battery and feed the laptop directly and this should save the life of the battery, yet these specs are not really transparent to us users...just the normal specs of CPU+GPU+RAM are...

@@eladbari My mistake, I misunderstood your original comment, where I am power brick also means battery, my laptop's battery is only 57 watt hours, I carry a portable supply and use laptop battery only when there's now plug and only when that supply runs out

I like it, but I use mostly work, excel docs, coding stuff and so I prefer 18 inch with similar specs

I donno why TH-cam get me this PC vs Mac again but did we compare the battery side by side with the same tasks, and I believe the best part of Apple M chip is about battery life with the power.
